Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is Phoenix Wright's first ever case a lawyer. It is a murder case. Who is the defendant, also Wright's client?

Answer: Larry Butz

Larry Butz has been formally accused of murder. Phoenix Wright, with Mia Fey his mentor at his side, would go on to represent him.
2. The defendant isn't just anybody, not to Phoenix Wright. What is Wright's relation to the defendant?

Answer: Best friend

Wright specifically notes that it was Larry who inspired him to practice law in the first place. He notes he would likely not be able and willing to take the case were it not for this fact.
3. "The Thinker" is critical to this case. Why is this?

Answer: The Thinker was the murder weapon

The Thinker was used to bludgeon the victim.
4. Who is the name of the victim in this case?

Answer: Cindy Stone

Cindy Stone was the victim for this case. According to the game, she had just returned home after an international trip.
5. Because of the victim's passport, we can conclude the victim was out of the country. When does the passport mention the victim returned home?

Answer: The day before the murder

The murder took place on the 31st, and the passport indicates she returned home on the 30th.
6. According to the Blackout Record, we know the power was out in the victim's apartment. Between what hours was the power out?

Answer: Noon to 6 PM

This ends up being crucial evidence which goes on to allow the player to prove who the real culprit was.
7. A key witness, Mr Thomas Sahwit, claims to have heard the time while outside of the victim's apartment. Is this claim true?

Answer: No

It is impossible for him to have heard the time. The time of death, a death he claims to have witnessed, was between 4-5 PM, when the power would have been out. The only way Mr Sahwit could have known the time is if he had entered the apartment, something he claimed to have not done.

Exposing this lie is key to winning the case.
8. A crucial revelation regarding The Thinker is discovered as Phoenix Wright continues to press Thomas Sahwit. After discussing how the latter heard the time, what conclusion do we come to?

Answer: The clock isn't behind, it's ahead

Up to this point, the entirety of the case was hinged on the notion that The Thinker was three hours behind. However, because the time difference between the setting of this game and Paris is nine hours, it actually turns out that the clock was nine hours ahead, rather than three hours behind.

This offers a discrepancy to Sahwit's claim that the clock told him the time. The time could not possibly have been as he had stated it was.
9. In the end, who killed the victim?

Answer: Thomas Sahwit

Thomas Sahwit heard the time, because when interacting with The Thinker, it will audibly read out the time. "Interacting with The Thinker" in this case involved using it to bludgeon Cindy Stone to death.

Sahwit would also get exposed for being a fraud- he is not a newspaper salesman, but rather a burglar posing as one so he can get into people's homes. He invaded Cindy Stone's home, then killed her when she came home and discovered him having broken in.
10. In the end, does Phoenix Wright successfully obtain a Not Guilty verdict for his client?

Answer: Yes

As Thomas Sahwit actually "did-it", Larry Butz was obviously innocent. Phoenix Wright essentially played both prosecution and defense masterfully, clearing his friend's name and simultaneously finding the real culprit.
