Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first fully evolved dragon in franchise history, Dragonite was a straightforward candidate to receive a Community Day. What is Dragonite's Community Day move?

Answer: Draco Meteor

While Wrap may have been more thematically fitting given the move's massive impact in the mainline first generation games, such a move would have been completely worthless in this game. Draco Meteor is an interesting option for Dragonite, both in PvE and PvP.

The move's massive base power of 140 can't be ignored, but it is one barred and has a very long animation to contend with. It offers slightly more PvE DPS than Outrage, but with much less flexibility as a result. In PvP, the move is even more powerful but carries a large drawback of -2 to Dragonite's Attack upon usage.

In either setting, Dragonite would do very well to pair it with a cheaper option, such as Dragon Claw or perhaps Outrage, to make it more flexible.
2. The third generation psuedo-legendary Salamence also received a Community Day. What is Salamence's Community Day move?

Answer: Outrage

Outrage is a powerful two barred move with a huge base power of 110, with the drawback of having a rather lengthy animation and subsequent damage window. As an inverse to Dragonite, Salamence already had access to Draco Meteor, and obtained Outrage as an Elite move here. Like Dragonite, Salamence would do well to run the moves in tandem for raids. Sadly, unlike Dragonite, Salamence is not viable in any PvP setting, and can't really hope to put Outrage to use there.
3. Following suit with its Dragon psuedo legendary bretheren, Garchomp also received a Community Day. What is Garchomp's Community Day move?

Answer: Earth Power

Unlike its peers, Garchomp's Community Day move supported it as a Ground attacker rather than a Dragon one. That said, Garchomp's readily available Dragon set of Dragon Tail + Outrage was already perfectly fine and optimal to begin with, while its readily accessible Ground move in Earthquake leaves a lot to be desired.

As such, obtaining the far superior Earth Power was more appreciated than, say, getting Draco Meteor would have been.
4. The malignant fifth generation psuedo-legendary Hydreigon unsurprisingly got its own Community Day move. Is this move a Dragon type move?

Answer: No

Similarly to Garchomp, Hydreigon's other STAB typing in Dark was granted a huge boost with its Community Day move in Brutal Swing. That said, Hydreigon's Dragon set of Dragonbreath + Dragon Pulse is genuinely terrible, and it would've appreciated help in this regard just as well as it did its Dark typing.
5. Goodra rounds off our selection of Dragon psuedo legendaries, and it obtained its quirky, seemingly-random Community Day move in 2024. What is Goodra's Community Day move?

Answer: Thunderpunch

Thunderpunch is completely worthless for Goodra in raids, but in PvP it offers some mild, very situational potential. In Great League, this is an interesting option to combat the top tier Azumarill with, as well as most Water types in general. The main issue here is that Goodra already had access to Power Whip for that exact reason, and the latter also nails Water/Ground types who would wall Thunderpunch. Unless the player needs an extremely sturdy response to Empoleon, Mantine and Pelipper in particular, Power Whip generally tends to be a stronger choice than Thunderpunch.
6. Dialga began its time in Master League PvP as a top tier force, arguably the best overall Pokemon for the setting. That said, preparing a Dialga for this League is very difficult to optimally do. For Dialga to be as optimal as possible in Master League, what is the minimum amount of Attack IVs it needs?

Answer: Thirteen

With 13 Attack IVs, Dragonbreath hits its last possible breakpoint. This is crucial, as Dialga needs this in order to secure victories against Lugia and Blizzard Kyogre. It also just helps its performance in neutral situations in general, in particular against someone else's Dialga.
7. On its debut, Rayquaza already had access to Outrage, a perfectly fine Dragon move. However, it would later gain access to an arguably even better Dragon move that became Elite. What move?

Answer: Breaking Swipe

Breaking Swipe is an unspeakably fast Charged move, as the move's damage window is so ridiculous that it deals damage even before the "Rayquaza used Breaking Swipe!" prompt appears on the side of the screen. It is the fastest Charged move in the game, but its base power of 35 is barely higher than the strongest Fast move, making its niche clear and easy to see. Despite its low power, its ridiculous speed brings its DPS up to right about where Outrage is, making it out to be more efficient and generally viewed as the superior option.

In PvP, however, Breaking Swipe is unquestionably the better option. It is much cheaper than Outrage and has a built in 50% chance to debuff the opponent's Attack by one stage. It is an obvious choice for a Rayquaza aspiring for PvP.
8. Dialga-Origin's Roar of Time isn't just powerful in combat - it offers utility outside of combat as well. When used outside of combat, what does Roar of Time do?

Answer: Extend the duration of consumables

Consumables, such as Stardust Pieces and Lucky Eggs, operate on a timer. Roar of Time extends this timer by pausing it for eight minutes at a time upon use. It costs three Dialga candies and 3,000 Stardust to perform. If used on a Stardust Piece at an opportune time, it could be possible for the player to earn a return on their investment and only spend Dialga candies to make it happen.
9. Not to be (entirely) outdone, Palkia-Origin's Spacial Rend also has an impact outside of just fighting. When used out of combat, what does Spacial Rend do?

Answer: Extend the range the player can find wild Pokemon

For six minutes upon use, the player will be able to find Pokemon at a slightly greater range than before. This is sadly much less useful than Dialga-Origin's Roar of Time, as the player could simply... walk a little bit if a Pokemon they wanted was just out of initial reach. You can't do the same with Dialga-O's Roar of Time, automatically making it far more useful.

The only conceivable time Palkia-O's Spacial Rend would be useful out of combat is if the player incapacitates themselves somehow and is either too lazy or "likewise" to get off their butts and go get whatever they're trying to catch.
10. Dragon is super effective against itself- this means, while one's own Dragons are good for a raid against other Dragons, their own survivability will be a problem while they do great damage. This isn't the case for this one singular Pokemon, uniquely a Dragon which resists incoming Dragon moves. Who does this apply to?

Answer: Mega Altaria

Dialga and its Origin form are neutral to Dragon, which is definitely better than being weak but it doesn't outright resist the moves. Mega Altaria's part Fairy typing allows it to resist incoming Dragon moves. Mega Altaria's own moves aren't fantastic, but even its defensive advantage by itself is enough to typically make Mega Altaria the top TDO option against Dragon raid bosses.

It even out-TDOs Mega Rayquaza despite falling massively behind it in DPS.
