Question 2 of 10
2. When PvP rolled out, Niantic made it a point to ensure that every one of Blissey's moves became as suboptimal and useless as possible - likely a means to prevent the perfectly statted pink blob from completely oppressing the scene. One such move was a Fairy type move. Which move of the following can Blissey learn? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. In the world of extremes, Charm in PvP is one of the most notable extremes in the game, dealing tons of damages with virtually no energy generation. What is the Damage-Per-Turn (DPT) for Charm? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Azumarill quickly and consistently established itself as a top tier Great League PvP threat when PvP came to the game. What Fairy type move does it use to do this? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. The Fairy Togekiss was given an interesting PvP option for its Community Day. What move did it gain here? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Zacian-H has the stats to be a force to be reckoned with in PvE. Yet, it's missing one piece to the puzzle of becoming a metagame threat as a Fairy attacker. Which of the following does Zacian lack? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Mega Diancie has an eye-popping Attack stat of 342, nearly challenging that of the omnipotent Mega Rayquaza and Primals Groudon and Kyogre. Yet, it is not the absolute best Fairy attacker. Much like Zacian and (without an Elite TM) Xerneas, Mega Diancie has one major drawback as a Fairy attacker- what is this? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fairy types came out of the gate limping, to say the least. How many Fairy type fast moves were in the game at launch?

Answer: Zero

Infamously, Fairies were the only type in the entire game lacking a STAB fast move option. The game launched in 2016, but it wouldn't be until 2020 when this would finally change.

Answer: Dazzling Gleam

A fine enough move in PvE, Dazzling Gleam's parameters are simply awful in PvP. It costs a staggering 70 energy and provides a pathetic 1.1 Damage-Per-Energy to go with it.
3. With the typing languishing, it wouldn't be until 2022 until a legendary finally (kind of) put Fairies on the map. Which cover legendary of the following, with access to their signature move, achieved this?

Answer: Xerneas

Coming to the game in 2020, Xerneas began its time in the game as a toothless joke. Like plenty of other Fairies, it did not have a useful fast move to pair with Moonblast, its STAB charged move. In 2022, it gained access to Geomancy, which was exactly what it needed to bring itself towards the top of the Fairy meta.
4. In 2023, a new contestant would enter the Fairy PvE meta and stake a claim towards the top. This Ultra Beast, however, is not actually a Fairy type at all, only having access to a single Fairy move its amazing stats can work with. What Ultra Beast fits this description?

Answer: Xurkitree

Xurkitree's access to Dazzling Gleam pairs well enough with Thundershock as a pretty incredible general move. To put into perspective how powerful Xurkitree is- Thundershock is frequently resisted by the Dragons that Fairies are tasked with beating. Yet, despite this set back, Xurkitree's Attack stat is so high that it's able to overcome this deficiency anyway. Statistically, its Fairy DPS only consistently trails Shadow and Mega Gardevoir, with it situationally matching or exceeding anything else.
5. In 2024, the Island Guardian group of Tapus Lele, Koko, Fini and Bulu gained access to their signature Fairy type move, Nature's Madness. How many bars does Nature's Madness have?

Answer: Two

With the move having a very reasonable 85 for a base power and being absurdly fast, it is actually one of the best Charged moves in the entire game. Sadly, none of the Tapus have Fairy fast moves to pair it with and their stats are all fairly average, and this serves to significantly curb Nature's Madness' potential.
6. In the world of extremes, Charm in PvP is one of the most notable extremes in the game, dealing tons of damages with virtually no energy generation. What is the Damage-Per-Turn (DPT) for Charm?

Answer: 5.3

Charm is a three turn move, dealing 16 base damage each time it gets used. It generates 6 energy upon use, setting its EPT to an abysmal flat two. This makes this move's niche clear and easy to see, letting Pokemon who have it pressure the opponent through shields, but hardly put up a fight pressuring the shields themselves.
7. Azumarill quickly and consistently established itself as a top tier Great League PvP threat when PvP came to the game. What Fairy type move does it use to do this?

Answer: Play Rough

Play Rough has identical power to Dazzling Gleam, with a much less energy cost. With Azumarill's Bubble posing just enough energy generation to use Play Rough a few times, Azumarill can properly deal with anything in Great League which is weak to Fairy. This includes very notable threats such as Sableye, Annihilape, Medicham and Altaria.
8. The Fairy Togekiss was given an interesting PvP option for its Community Day. What move did it gain here?

Answer: Aura Sphere

Aura Sphere is one of the cheapest moves Togekiss has, and it covers its weakness to Steel. Both of these facts are incredibly important, with Togekiss having a tough time reaching Charged moves due to Charm's horrible energy generation and Steel types being prevalent across PvP in general.
9. Zacian-H has the stats to be a force to be reckoned with in PvE. Yet, it's missing one piece to the puzzle of becoming a metagame threat as a Fairy attacker. Which of the following does Zacian lack?

Answer: Fairy Fast move

Zacian got Play Rough, which is more than good enough as a Charged move. Yet, it must contend with Snarl or Fire Fang as Fast move options, which both plainly and simply suck in a Fairy type attacking capacity. If it could get Charm or Fairy Wind, it would see plenty of play. Sadly, it lacks access to both of these moves in mainline games, so it will never get them in this one.

Answer: Lack of Fairy Fast move

Unfortunately, Mega Diancie was saddled with the awful Moonblast for a Charged move, and was never given a Fast move that had any sort of real synergy with it. Despite these tremendous setbacks, Mega Diancie's Attack stat is still high enough to make it viable as a Fairy attacker sheerly off of stats alone.

However, the aforementioned setbacks are too much for Mega Diancie to be particularly great at the role- its DPS very slightly trails regular Gardevoir and just doesn't quite reach numbers seen in top tier Fairy attackers.
