Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Karate Chop is a legacy move on Hariyama.

Answer: False

Karate Chop belongs to Machamp, not Hariyama, as a legacy move. Hariyama cannot possibly ever have access to Karate Chop. It is generally outperformed by Counter, so it's a move best left behind in history anyhow.
2. Surf is one of Pikachu's legacy moves.

Answer: True

A Community Day move, keeping a Pikachu with Surf is merely for novelty anyway. This is because items don't exist in this game, causing Pikachu to be clearly inferior in every way to its evolved forme, Raichu, who itself is nothing special.
3. Aura Sphere, a move introduced to Lucario in 2020 that allowed it to completely dominate the meta, was actually not introduced as a legacy Community Day move.

Answer: True

In raids, the Counter + Aura Sphere make Lucario the best non Shadow/Mega Fighting type attacker in the game. When given Shadow Ball for a second charged move, Lucario also has incredible potential in raiding gyms as well, possessing the ability to hit pretty much anything imaginable for at least neutral damage there. If one were to want to venture into the realm of Player-versus-Player, Counter and Shadow Ball would stick around, but Power-Up Punch or Close Combat would take the place of Aura Sphere. The former offered Lucario utility in boosting it's own Attack, while the latter did quite the opposite upon use, but also boasted terrifying nuking potential and made Lucario a force to be reckoned with.

Lucario's Steel type options, Bullet Punch for a fast move and Flash Cannon for a charged move, could theoretically be paired up due to having synergy with one another. However, this combo was underwhelming everywhere imaginable due to having vastly inferior parameters to Lucario's Fighting type options.
4. Eevee and its various evolutions have a legacy Community Day move which hits Rock types super effectively.

Answer: False

Last Resort, their collective Community Day move, is resisted by Rock. This is annoying for Flareon in particular, the only Eevelution whose STAB is also resisted by Rock.
5. Kingler's legacy 2016 move is not a Water type attack, and does not get STAB.

Answer: True

Kingler's legacy fast move is Mud Shot. It does generate energy incredibly quickly and allows Kingler to fire off strong Crabhammers frequently, but it also has a totally nonexistent damage output itself, causing it to fall behind Bubble, which is readily available anyway.
6. Salamence's legacy Community Day move is a fast move.

Answer: False

Salamence's Community Day legacy charged move, Outrage, enables it to be competitive with Rayquaza as a Dragon type attacker. Its Shadow forme when equipped with this move is firmly ahead of the pack with skyhigh DPS.
7. If Zapdos' legacy 2017 move was readily available, it would enable it to become the best Electric type attacker in the game.

Answer: False

Zapdos' legacy move is Thundershock, a fast move. It is indeed noticeably superior to Charge Beam, its only readily available fast move. However, Zapdos' lack of access to Wild Charge meant Raikou would consistently be superior to it anyway, Thundershock or not. In the fifth generation, Zekrom was released, and it became the top dog in the discussion over both of them anyway.
8. In order for Mega Charizard X to use a fully Dragon type moveset, it must be equipped with a legacy Community Day move.

Answer: True

Dragonbreath, a Community Day legacy move, is Charizard's only Dragon type fast move. Pairing it with Dragon Claw enables Mega Charizard X to become a lethally efficient attacker, throwing out Dragon Claws incredibly quickly and boasting excellent energy efficiency and dodging capabilities.

The drawback is that neither move has a particularly good base power, leaving Mega Charizard X in the dust for Dragon type DPS despite getting STAB on the two moves.
9. While Golem may have Mud Slap for a fast move and Stone Edge for a charged move, it also gets two 2016 legacy moves of each type that are much speedier, albeit weaker.

Answer: True

Mud Shot and Ancientpower, legacy fast and charged moves of Golem's, are absolutely compulsory if a player wants to use Golem in any PvP setting at all. Mud Shot generates energy very quickly while Ancientpower has a low energy cost and offers deadly potential to raise all of Golem's stats by one stage. Due to Mud Shot's amazing energy generation, Golem can use Ancientpower roughly every five seconds, maximizing the odds of it getting that elusive 10% chance to boost. Earthquake is a powerful attack, albeit one that costs a lot of energy to use. Mud Shot renders that a non problem however, giving Golem the means to deal with threats weak to Ground, as well as heavily chip threats that do not resist it.

Should Golem go without those two moves, it poses significantly less threat. Its readily available fast moves are Rock Throw and Mud Slap, offering very poor energy generation and merely average damage output. This is insufficient due to the fact that Golem's available charged moves, Rock Blast, Stone Edge and Earthquake, cost a lot of energy to use. It would simply fail to pose any serious threat because of this and would be dispatched of very easily. Mud Shot and Ancientpower are mandatory to avoid this problem.
10. Because Venomoth's legacy 2016 Poison type move has bad parameters, there is no reason for Venomoth to want to use it.

Answer: False

Poison Fang is truly an atrocious move and it's easy to understand why anybody would ever want to run it, especially given the extra effort needed to actually locate a Venomoth that knows the move. The answer is quite simple: in PvP Great League, a Venomoth with Poison Fang beats big name threats that it falls short of defeating without Poison Fang. Azumarill, Meganium and Tropius are top tier threats, weak to Poison, who cannot immediately threaten Venomoth a lot. Even though Poison Fang is a terrible move, it is highly recommended to run it on Venomoth to exploit these big name good matchups so that it can help protect its team from them.
11. Between Kingdra's two Water type fast moves, its legacy 2017 variant is the faster albeit weaker option.

Answer: True

Water Gun, Kingdra's legacy fast move, is much faster than the readily available Waterfall, though it is also much weaker. Kingdra's only Water type charged move is the expensive Hydro Pump, so Water Gun would be a better idea in situations when Kingdra would need to dodge raid boss charged moves, or when Kingdra will not survive for long and needs to access Hydro Pump as soon as possible.

In other situations, Waterfall's superior DPS would give it the nod. Neither are truly unviable in doing anything in particular for Kingdra, and both make for fine pairings with Hydro Pump in any scenario.
12. Electrode's legacy 2016 fast move is not an Electric type attack, and does not get STAB.

Answer: True

Electrode gets Tackle as a legacy fast move, a move dramatically inferior in every single way to Spark. Nothing much to say here, except Tackle is mere novelty, nothing more.
13. Lugia's legacy 2020 move is its signature attack Aeroblast.

Answer: True

Aeroblast hits like a truck, with massive base damaging numbers and being granted more power from Lugia getting STAB off of it. Sadly, Lugia's poor offensive stats still hold it back from being a particularly good offensive Flying type even with Aeroblast.
14. When accessing its Community Day legacy move and pairing it with a readily available charged move, Alakazam can create a fully Fighting type moveset.

Answer: True

Counter, Alakazam's Community Day legacy move, can go with its readily available Focus Blast to create a suboptimal but somewhat functional Fighting type attacker. Its good offensive stats save the set from being completely terrible, but its weakness to Dark type moves that actual Fighting types resist and its inability to gain STAB on Fighting moves make it inferior to actual good Fighting type Pokemon, like Lucario, Machamp and Conkeldurr, by a wide margin.
15. Heatran's legacy move makes it into the tankiest Fire type with actual viability in the game.

Answer: False

Heatran is able to obtain the aforementioned sentiment with its readily available Fire Spin + Flamethrower moveset. It can immediately access this moveset, and because of its stellar defensive typing, it stands out as a top anchoring option for large raids where survivability can be a problem, like Mega Venusaur or Regice raids.
