Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mad Piano
Answer: Big Boo's Haunt
A course set in a haunted mansion filled with Boos, Big Boo's Haunt is also home to a handful of enemies that are simply ravenous, cursed items. While some of the rooms of the mansion will contain bookshelves of toothed, angry books, one room contains nothing more than a grand piano, seated off in a corner in the glow of moonlight. Approaching it will reveal its true form-- a hungry creature that, while slow-moving, will not hesitate to take a bite out of Mario.
2. Ukkiki
Answer: Tall, Tall Mountain
There are a few Ukkikis located on Tall, Tall Mountain, the precarious and deadly mountain in the sky that Mario will encounter in the twelfth course of the game. Simply put, these monkeys have everything Mario needs-- sometimes it'll be a Power Star, or sometimes it'll be Mario's hat, which they'll pluck off his head if he isn't too careful. Just like Mips, in Peach's Castle, he can grab the Ukkikis to get what he needs off of them.
3. Dorrie
Answer: Hazy Maze Cave
The Loch Ness Monster of the Hazy Maze Cave, Dorrie is a friendly creature who can help Mario access not only inconvenient Power Stars, but the only doorway from which he can access the Green Switch, necessary for unlocking the Metal Cap for the rest of the game. Mario can climb onto Dorrie's back at will and then navigate around her cave by simply facing the direction he wants to go. If he needs to get higher, Mario can also ground pound on her back to make her lower her head (so that he can climb on top).
4. Hoot
Answer: Whomp's Fortress
There's only one tree on Whomp's Fortress, the second course of the game, and it's right next to Mario's starting point there. If you can't resist climbing it, that's not a bad thing since it's the home of a helpful own named Hoot who, if you grab on, will be happy to launch you into the skies overtop Whomp's Fortress, giving you easier access to the spots on top and the floating islands that take a little more effort to navigate.
5. Wiggler
Answer: Tiny-Huge Island
Wiggler can be found within the mountain that is Tiny-Huge Island and while you might see him from below while collecting the eight Red Coins in his lair, he's a bit trickier to access. To get to Wiggler you need to break open the passageway at the top of the island by ground pounding the peak as huge Mario. From there you'll be able to drop down into his lair and face off, ground pounding him a few times until he relinquishes his Power Star.
6. Sushi
Answer: Dire, Dire Docks
There are actually two of Sushi in Dire, Dire Docks, both in the opening area where Mario drops into the course. Large sharks, these foes aren't actively looking to cause harm or be nuisances, but they do hurt Mario if he happens to swim directly into their regular circular paths.
It might come as a surprise, but the most dangerous parts of Dire, Dire Docks are likely the environment as Mario is more at risk of drowning or getting sucked into a whirlpool than he is hitting an enemy.
7. Unagi
Answer: Jolly Roger Bay
A large, defensive moray eel found in the window of the sunken ship beneath the surface of Jolly Roger Bay, Unagi only appears in the one level, being restricted to underwater environments (of which there are only a few reliable ones in the game). The first couple of stars in this course involve Unagi specifically since Mario has to lure him out to either gain access to the interior of the sunken ship (through Unagi's window) or collect the star stuck to the eel's tail.
8. Klepto
Answer: Shifting Sand Land
Klepto can be found patrolling the desert skies near the pyramid in Shifting Sand Land. Eager to get his talons into anything he can grab, the course's very first Power Star can actually be collected from his grasp by knocking into him (by any means). Without the star in-hand, Klepto will go for other items that he can ascend into the sky with, and sometimes that means grabbing Mario's hat from his head, leaving him without his trademark red cap.
9. Chill Bully
Answer: Snowman's Land
Although Big Bullies (and small ones) are the norm when Mario steps foot into Lethal Lava Land and the Bowser in the Fire Sea bonus stage, Snowman's Land, the game's tenth course, features the polar opposite foe, Chill Bully, who'll be waiting atop an icy platform above a dangerously cold pool.
The gimmick is the same; Mario needs to bounce into him (intentionally) to knock him of the perch and get his Power Star. The difference, of course, is the lack of friction on the ice around you, so you'll need to watch your step.
10. Chain Chomp
Answer: Bob-Omb Battlefield
The game's only Chain Chomp is one of the major fixtures in Bob-Omb Battlefield, the first course of Mario's adventure in "Super Mario 64", and while you can get the star associated with him at any time by ground-pounding his leash pole, he will otherwise just hang out in his pen area, jolting out at Mario if he happens to be walking by too close.
The stage is otherwise home to numerous common Mario enemies including Goombas, Koopas, and Bob-Ombs.
