Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Here's a quick look at the vexillological elements used in this quiz. A bisection is the division of the flag into two equal parts, whether vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, while a quadrisection splits it into four equal quadrants. A triband is composed of three horizontal or vertical stripes, equal or unequal in size.
A pale is a vertical stripe in the center of the flag, and a fess is its horizontal counterpart. The bend is a diagonal stripe running from the top left to the bottom right, while the saltire is an X-shaped cross formed by two diagonal lines. A canton refers to a smaller rectangle in the top hoist corner, often containing other symbols or shapes. Flags with a bordure have a border surrounding their design.
A Greek cross features four equal arms intersecting at the center, whereas the Nordic cross has a longer horizontal arm shifted toward the hoist side. A chevron resembles an inverted V, often placed in the center, and a pall forms a Y-shape dividing the flag into three sections. The arrowhead is a triangular shape, sometimes pointing outward, and a gusset is similar to a pall in that it resembles a filled Y-shape (you can imagine the outline of a flashlight).
The other terms in this quiz are related to painting techniques or strokes.
