Answer: Queen Mary 2

RMS Queen Mary 2 succeeded Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) as the Cunard flagship in 2004. She was launched at Saint-Nazaire, France, in 2003, and made her maiden voyage, from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale in January, 2004.
2. The Italian liner Andrea Doria capsized in 1956 after colliding with which other ship, named after a Scandinavian city?

Answer: Stockholm

SS Andrea Doria was launched in 1951 in Genoa, Italy. She belonged to the Italian Line and served the Genoa-New York route. In July, 1956, she collided with the MS Stockholm near Nantucket Island in thick fog. The Andrea Dora sank with the loss of 46 passengers, whilst five crew members of the Stockholm also lost their lives.
3. The SS Normandie was a French liner which broke the record for the fastest transatlantic crossing on her maiden voyage of 1935. Her career came to a sad end when she caught fire in which city in 1942?

Answer: New York

SS Normandie was launched in Saint-Nazaire in 1932. Her maiden transatlantic voyage in May 1935 saw her sail from Le Havre to New York in four days and three hours to win the "Blue Riband" for fastest Atlantic crossing. In 1942, she was harboured in New York, where she was to be turned into a troop ship named USS Lafayette.

In February of that year, sparks from a welding torch led to a fire which eventually destroyed the ship.

Answer: United States

The SS United States was launched at Newport News, Virginia, in 1951. She broke the eastbound record for fastest eastbound Atlantic crossing in July, 1952, then broke the westbound record on the return journey. She was retired in 1969, and laid up in Philadelphia.
5. Which liner rescued survivors from the Titanic before herself being torpedoed by a German U-Boat near the end of World War 1?

Answer: Carpathia

RMS Carpathia was launched in 1902 in Wallsend, near Newcastle upon Tyne. Owned by the Cunard Line, she served the Liverpool-New York Atlantic route. In April 1912, she rescued over 700 passengers from the Titanic disaster. During World War 1, she was used as a troop ship, and was torpedoed by a U-boat south of Ireland, with nearly all passengers and crew being rescued.

Answer: Queen Mary

RMS Queen Mary was launched in Clydebank, Scotland, in 1934, and was operated by the Cunard Line on the transatlantic route until 1967. She held the "Blue Riband" for fastest Atlantic crossing, both eastbound and westbound, between 1938 and 1952. After retiring from service, she was bought by the City of Long Beach, who converted her into a hotel and restaurant.

The SS Canberra was launched in Belfast in 1960 as part of the P&O fleet. She was designed to serve the UK to Australasia route. In 1982, she transported troops from Southampton to the Falkland Islands, where she avoided being targeted by Argentine jets, their pilots mistaking her white livery for that of a hospital ship. She was scrapped in 1998.

The Bremen was converted to a barracks ship during World War 2, and was gutted by fire in 1941.

Royal Caribbean International are based in Miami, Florida, and operate cruise liners in various classes, the biggest of which are all in the Oasis class. They all have gross tonnage of over 225,000 tonnes, and have a passenger capacity of over 6,500.
