Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Henry Phillips, a resident of my hometown of Portland, Oregon, started manufacturing a now common item in 1934. What was this item?

Answer: A Screw

Phillips bought the rights to this invention from John Thompson, who had not been able to interest existing screw manufacturers in something new. The Phillips screw took a while to catch on, but eventually the non-skid and self centering properties made it a common fastener. Of course, it's not much help to those of us who can only find a flat tip/head when we need a Phillips and vice versa.

9. In my native language - Swedish - the letter Ö (O with two dots) isnīt just a letter, itīs also a word. But what does it mean?

Answer: Island

You might not have come across the Swedish language, but itīs a North Germanic language within the Indo-European family and very closely related to Norwegian and Danish. One odd thing about it is that it has 3 extra letters that you usually donīt find in other Indo-European languages. They are added at the end of the alphabet after the letter Z. They are Å (pronounced as the A in All) Ä (pronounced as the e in very) and Ö (pronounced something like the u in murder) In Swedish oil is olja, Cat is katt and owl is uggla, while Ö actually is the word for island.
