Set in Spanish speaking California in the 1800s, the story of the wealthy Don who dons a mask and cape to fight for the rights of the people has been told a number of times. Guy Williams played the role in the original series, that ran from 1957 to 1959, and Duncan Regeher took up the sword in the series that ran from 1990 to 1993. In 1998's "The Mask of Zorro", Anthony Hopkins played an older version of the people's hero, training Antonio Banderas to be his replacement and Banderas continued the role in 2005's less successful "The Legend of Zorro".
