Amazing Race 13 Trivia Questions

1. In which country did teams begin Leg 9?

From Quiz
"The Amazing Race 13" [5]

Answer: Kazakhstan

In the beginning of Leg 9, teams departed from the eighth Pit Stop of the race in Almaty, Kazakhstan's Old Square and were told to make their way to the airport to catch a flight to Moscow, the capital city of Russia. All of the teams took the same early morning flight. Once the four remaining teams made their way here, they would be able to take a taxi to their next route marker at the Krutitsy Dormition Cathedral where teams needed to light a candle as part of an Eastern Orthodox tradition to receive their next clue.

2. In Leg 7, teams remained in which Asian country?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [4]

Answer: India

Beginning Leg 7, the six remaining teams departed from their sixth Pit Stop at the Bahai House in Delhi, India and were told to head through New Delhi to find their next clue at the Deshbandhu Apartments. Because the six teams arrived at the Bahai House in the evening, they departed early in the morning on the following day within about an hour span of one another.

3. To which country did teams travel in the beginning of Leg 5 of the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [3]

Answer: Cambodia

Teams departed from the fourth Pit Stop of the race, the Summerhill Rec Farm outside Auckland, New Zealand, and were told to make their way to the airport to fly to the city of Siem Reap, Cambodia, over fifty-five hundred miles from their current location. Upon touching down in this Southeast Asian nation, teams would need to locate a specific gas pumping station within the city and fill a truck with diesel to receive their next clue. Some of the teams were able to get quicker flights through Singapore though not all racers had left the Pit Stop at this time. Most teams arrived at night and in the early morning hours.

4. Departing from Brazil in Leg 3, to what South American city did teams travel?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [2]

Answer: La Paz

Departing from the city of Fortaleza on the Atlantic coastline in Brazil, teams were instructed to make their way to the airport to fly over a thousand miles to La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. Once there, teams were required to locate the Statue of Simon Bolivar in the center of the city. En route, all nine teams took one of two flights to Bolivia and reached the statue where, upon their arrival, they would need to wait for the morning paper to receive their next clue which would be in the articles inside.

5. In the first leg of the race in Brazil, what did teams need to climb in 'Hard Way Up'?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Answer: Stairs

Reaching a church in the city of Salvador, Brazil on the first leg of the race, teams were asked to complete 'Hard Way Up' or 'Soft Way Down'. In 'Hard Way Up', which only Andrew and Dan completed, teams needed to crawl on their hands and knees up the Escadaria do Passo where, at the top, they needed to answer a mystery question (about the amount of steps climbed). In 'Soft Way Down', the remaining ten teams ascended the Elevador Lacerda, then climbed down a cargo net two hundred and forty feet to the ground. Teams then made their way to the Pit Stop at Forte de Sao Marcelo.

6. From which American city did teams commence "The Amazing Race 13"?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [1]

Answer: Los Angeles

Eleven teams made their way to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum's field to begin a race around the world. Opening their clues, teams were instructed to drive through the city, then pick one of two flights to their next destination, Brazil, at LAX International Airport leaving that afternoon. With this in mind, six teams arrived earlier into their Brazilian locale than the five proceeding teams. This was the fifth time that the race began in the Los Angeles area in the history of the show (and certainly not the last).

7. For the 'Boots' and 'Borscht' Detour tasks in Leg 9, teams needed to wear which clothing?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [5]

Answer: Military uniforms

After visiting Krutitsy's Dormition Cathedral, teams needed to travel by taxi to Kolosok Camp in Moscow Oblast, a decommissioned military base outside the city. Once here, teams found their Detour task, a choice between 'Boots' and 'Borscht'. In 'Boots', teams needed to follow a group of military officials and perform a march routine in sync to get their clue. In 'Borscht', teams needed to head into a dining hall and serve seventy-five bowls of borscht to hungry soldiers. After this task, teams could receive their next clue. For both choices, teams would've needed to wear traditional military uniforms.

8. Which team member did not complete the festival-themed Road Block task in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [4]

Answer: Tina

Arriving at the Deshbandhu Apartments in New Delhi, one member of each team was asked to perform a Road Block task. For this Road Block, the selected team member was required to head into a local festival in which locals threw powdered dye and water at the racers and climb one of several ladders to search for a clue. Their clue would be found in only one of six envelopes amongst several hundred, so patience and luck were a must. Starr, Dallas, Kelly, Terence, Dan, and Ken completed this task.

9. Which team completed the 'Village Life' Detour task in Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [3]

Answer: Terence and Sarah

After filling their trucks, teams were told to drive to Siem Reap Harbour on the Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Once there, teams needed to board a marked boat to take them to Kho Andeth where their next clue box would be found. This would be the Detour task in which teams chose between 'Village Life' and 'Village Work'. In 'Village Life', teams needed to head to a market along Tonle Sap and retrieve items from a dentist, a tailor, and a basketball court (at which both members needed to score a basket) before returning all three items to the harbour for their clue. Kelly and Christy, Terence and Sarah, and Ken and Tina finished this task.

10. Which team completed the 'Musical March' Detour task in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [2]

Answer: Andrew and Dan

Teams needed to continue by taxi through La Paz to Mercado Rodrigues where their next clue would be located- this spot was mentioned in their newspapers. After receiving a hat at the Plaza Murillo (at the Narvaez Hat Shop), teams received their Detour clue, a choice between 'Musical March' and 'Bumpy Ride'. In 'Musical March', teams needed to go to different plazas to accumulate band members who would need to be brought to a specific location in the city, the Plaza Abaroa. Andrew and Dan and Marisa and Brooke finished this task. In 'Bumpy Ride', the other seven teams rode handcrafted wooden bicycles along the city's cobblestone streets to the same plaza to receive their clue.

11. In Leg 2, Mark and Bill were the only team to complete what Detour task in Caucaia, Brazil?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Answer: 'Docket'

In Leg 2, teams proceeded to the northeastern coast of Brazil to find a Detour task near the city of Fortaleza. Once teams took dune buggies along Pecém Beach, they could choose either 'Beach It' or 'Docket'. In 'Beach It', teams needed to use logs to transport a large boat from the water's edge to a small inlet. Using force, nine teams completed this task. In 'Docket', Mark and Bill decided to head to a nearby shipping yard, locate a specific container in a database, and find their clue within said container in the yard. After the Detour, teams headed to the first Road Block task in Caucaia.

12. To which city in Brazil did teams travel in Leg 1 of the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [1]

Answer: Salvador

Once in Salvador, Brazil, teams were told to take a taxi through the city to find o Rei do Pernil Sandwich Shop where they could complete their next task. For this task, teams needed to deliver a cart of sales goods through the streets and up a funicular to a man waiting for them in the Praca da Se. Once teams wheeled their unwieldy cart to the proper man, they could continue on with the race by taking a taxi to a military base known as 19 Batalhao de Cacadores. Here, they would need to sign in and take a departure time for the next morning. They would spent the nights sleeping outside in bug nets.

13. Which Detour task was completed by the most teams during Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [4]

Answer: 'Bleary Eyed'

After the Road Block, teams were told to make their way to the Charity Birds Hospital in India's largest Jain Temple, Jain Mandir, where their Detour task could be found inside the cages of sick and injured birds. For this Detour, teams chose between 'Bleary Eyed' and 'Teary Eyed'. In 'Bleary Eyed', teams needed to go to a nearby intersection and meet with a member of the Department of Power. Then, they needed to follow a power line and count the numbers on small tags along said line. Once they gave these numbers in, they needed to plug in a musical device at a specific shop to get their next clue. In 'Teary Eyed', teams needed to deliver two large bags of chilies to a local shop, then grind chilis into powder to get their next clue. Only Terence and Sarah completed the latter task while the rest completed 'Bleary Eyed'.

14. In the 'Village Work' Detour task in Leg 5, what did teams need to retrieve?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [3]

Answer: Fish

In the 'Village Work' Detour option, teams needed to head out onto the Tonle Sap and pull two large baskets of freshwater fish from the bottom of the lake. Once they returned these fish to the proper person in Siem Reap Harbor, they would be able to receive their next clue. Nick and Starr, Ty and Aja, Toni and Dallas, and Andrew and Dan all completed this Detour task and continued onwards following their next Route Info. This instructed them to make their way by tuk-tuk to the landmark temple known as Angkor Wat.

15. Which team completed the 'Hard Way Up' Detour task of Leg 1?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [1]

Answer: Andrew and Dan

Departing from the military base in the morning, teams were told to take a taxi to Igreja da Ordem Terceira de Sao Francisco in Pelourinho where they would find their next clue. This turned out to be a Detour task, their first in the race. Only Andrew and Dan completed the 'Hard Way Up' Detour option in which they needed to climb a set of stairs at the Escadaria do Passo on their hands and knees. Once at the top, teams would need to answer a secret question pertaining to the number of steps climbed, but they would not know the question until they reached the top. Once they answered 'fifty-three' they would receive their next clue. If teams answered wrong, they'd need to take the streets nearby back to the bottom to try again.

16. What did team members need to carry in the Road Block in Russia in Leg 9?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [5]

Answer: Bags of flour

In the city of Zhukovsky, teams needed to locate their next clue outside the Zhukovsky Bakery. This would be the next Road Block. For this task, one member (with a good back) needed to inflict pain upon themselves by boarding a nearby truck and carrying fifty large sacks of flour (weighing about fifty pounds each) into the bakery to the designated area. Once they properly stacked their flour, they would be able to receive their next clue from the Russian baker. Dallas, Ken, Nick, and Dan completed the task.

17. In Leg 7, which team needed to complete the first Speed Bump of the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [4]

Answer: Ken and Tina

Before attempting the Detour task, Ken and Tina had to complete a Speed Bump task having placed last during the previous leg (a non-elimination leg). As such, they had to make their way to Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib (in Chandni Chowk) to hand out holy water to the local Sikhs. When Ken and Tina had appeased the Sikhs waiting for them, they were able to return to the Detour and rejoin the other racers on the course.

18. In Leg 5, teams completed the Road Block task at what famous Cambodian landmark?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 13"

Answer: Angkor Wat

Teams headed from Tonle Sap in Siem Reap, Cambodia to the famous temple known as Angkor Wat. Here, one member of each team was required to complete the Road Block in which they needed to search the temple for one echo chamber containing their next clue. To determine this, they would need to beat on their chest and hear an echo in the specific room. Inside, teams found their next clue on a stone tablet leading them to the next Pit Stop: Bayon Temple. Nick, Tina, Dallas, Christy, Andrew, Terence, and Ty completed this task.

19. How many wrestling techniques did team members need to learn for the Road Block in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [2]

Answer: Six

After the possible U-Turn, teams were instructed to travel to the nearby city of El Alto to find their next clue at Los Titanes del Ring. This was the Road Block. In this task, one member of each team needed to fit into a luchadora wrestling outfit, then face off against local female wrestlers known as the Fighting Cholitas. Once they performed the six wrestling moves that they practiced and gave the hat they had received earlier in the leg, they could continue on. Only one team member could be in the ring at a time, and if they did not complete their move correctly, they would need to practice it again. Ken, Marisa, Toni, Sarah, Ty, Nick, Kelly, Dan and Mark finished this task.

20. Traveling to New Zealand in Leg 4, how many teams actually completed the 'Matter of Time' Detour option?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Answer: Three

Teams headed out from Auckland, New Zealand to find a Detour task in Te Puke. Here, teams could choose either 'Matter of Time' or 'Matter of Skill'. In 'Matter of Time', teams traveled to a local kiwi orchard to stomp kiwis in traditional basins (in which the bottoms would be lined with rocks) to create a total of twelve quarts of kiwi juice. Both members, upon finishing, also needed to drink a glass each. Terence and Sarah, Marisa and Brooke, and Kelly and Christy completed this task. The remaining teams (excluding Ken and Tina, who claimed the Fast Forward) completed 'Matter of Skill' in which both members constructed Blokarts and rode them around a track three times. After this, teams headed to the Summerhill Rec Farm, the fourth Pit Stop.

21. How many teams completed the 'Soft Way Down' Detour task in Leg 1?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [1]

Answer: Ten

Since only Andrew and Dan completed 'Hard Way Up' in Leg 1, all of the remaining ten teams finished 'Soft Way Down' in which both members needed to find a marked elevator in the Elevador Lacerda in Salvador and harness themselves up at the top to climb down a cargo net back to the ground, a total of two hundred and forty feet. Once both members safely reached the ground they would receive their next clue leading them directly to the first Pit Stop. Only three teams could be on the cargo net at one time, so teams had to deal with a first-come-first-served basis.

22. Which team placed first in Russia in Leg 9?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [5]

Answer: Toni and Dallas

After completing the Road Block, teams were told to make their way through the busy streets of Moscow to their ninth Pit Stop, Neskuchniy Garden. Here, Toni and Dallas broke Nick and Starr's long-running win streak by placing first for their first time. For the win, they ended up receiving a trip for two to the Dominican Republic. Andrew and Dan, who fell behind after confusion at the Detour, ended up placing last this leg only to discover that it was the last non-elimination leg of the race (of only two).

23. Which team was eliminated in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [4]

Answer: Kelly and Christy

After the Detour task, teams were told to make their way to the seventh Pit Stop of the race, Humayun's Tomb in Delhi, a large garden tomb complex. The Pit Stop mat could be found at Isa Khan's Tomb. For the third time in a row (and the fourth time during the race), siblings Nick and Starr secured the first place position landing on the mat and, this time, won themselves a Travelocity trip for two to Hawaii. Kelly and Christy became the sixth team eliminated from the race.

24. Which team was eliminated in Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [3]

Answer: Aja and Ty

After the Road Block, teams were instructed to make their way on foot to the nearby temple of Bayon, adjacent to the temple of Angkor Wat. Here, teams would find the Pit Stop. The first team to arrive was Nick and Starr who won a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands (to go with their first leg victor trip to Belize). Unfortunately, Aja and Ty placed in seventh, the same as in the previous leg, due to their unlucky flight time and they were the fifth team to be eliminated from the race.

25. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [2]

Answer: Mark and Bill

After the Road Block, teams made their way by taxi to the third pit Stop of the race, Mirador el Monticulo in La Paz. Once again, Ken and Tina were the first place winners of this leg (their second consecutive victory). For their win, they received a Travelocity prize sending them to Mexico. Mark and Bill, who misread a clue and took a taxi to the Detour (rather than walking) received a thirty minute time penalty allowing all other teams to finish before them. They checked in as the last team and were subsequently eliminated.

26. Which team was the first to be eliminated from the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [1]

Answer: Anita and Arthur

After the Detour teams needed to head to the nearby waterfront and take a boat directly to their first Pit Stop, the Forte de Sao Marcelo built on an island in the water. Nick and Starr were quick to find a boat to take them directly there after the Detour and placed first in this first leg winning a trip for two to Belize courtesy of Travelocity. Unfortunately, Anita and Arthur, the oldest couple on the race, were the first to be eliminated after falling behind before and after the Detour task.

27. In Leg 10, all of the tasks were completed in which Russian city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [5]

Answer: Moscow

Beginning Leg 10, teams were told to remain in Moscow and to locate their next route marker at Severnoye Tushino Park. Here, teams would need to specifically find the Komsomolets of Novosibirsk, a submarine docked in the nearby waters, and go inside to locate an actor who appeared in the film "The Hunt for Red October". This man would hand them their next clue.

28. In the beginning of Leg 8, teams were told to head to which Asian nation?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [4]

Answer: Kazakhstan

Teams departed from the seventh Pit Stop at Humayun's Tomb in Delhi, India and were told to make their way to the airport to fly to Almaty, a major city of Kazakhstan, over one thousand miles away. All five remaining teams boarded and flew to either Frankfurt, Moscow, or Dubai arriving late at night. Once there, teams visited the Alel' Agro Chicken Factory in the Almaty Oblysy to find their next clue box and task.

29. In Leg 6, teams were told to fly to what Indian city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 13" [3]

Answer: Delhi

Starting Leg 6, teams opened their first clue at the previous Pit Stop, the Bayon Temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This clue informed teams that they would need to return to the airport to fly two thousand miles to the city of Delhi, India. Because of everyone's close departure times, all six teams were able to catch the same flight to the city of Delhi. This would be the sixth "Amazing Race" to make a stop in India, and not the first in Delhi.
