Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Departing from Brazil in Leg 3, to what South American city did teams travel?

Answer: La Paz

Departing from the city of Fortaleza on the Atlantic coastline in Brazil, teams were instructed to make their way to the airport to fly over a thousand miles to La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. Once there, teams were required to locate the Statue of Simon Bolivar in the center of the city. En route, all nine teams took one of two flights to Bolivia and reached the statue where, upon their arrival, they would need to wait for the morning paper to receive their next clue which would be in the articles inside.
2. Which team completed the 'Musical March' Detour task in Leg 3?

Answer: Andrew and Dan

Teams needed to continue by taxi through La Paz to Mercado Rodrigues where their next clue would be located- this spot was mentioned in their newspapers. After receiving a hat at the Plaza Murillo (at the Narvaez Hat Shop), teams received their Detour clue, a choice between 'Musical March' and 'Bumpy Ride'.

In 'Musical March', teams needed to go to different plazas to accumulate band members who would need to be brought to a specific location in the city, the Plaza Abaroa. Andrew and Dan and Marisa and Brooke finished this task.

In 'Bumpy Ride', the other seven teams rode handcrafted wooden bicycles along the city's cobblestone streets to the same plaza to receive their clue.
3. After the Detour task in Leg 3, which team used the U-Turn?

Answer: None of these

At the Plaza Abaroa, the ending point for both Detour tasks in La Paz, teams had to step onto the U-Turn mat and make a decision as to whether or not they would try to hold up the other teams. Although Nick and Starr tried to get Aja and Ty to use their U-Turn powers, the couple did not use it. No one did, in fact. Had this mechanic been used, the selected team would've needed to go back and complete the Detour option that they had not previously finished.

Instead, teams made their way to the next task.
4. How many wrestling techniques did team members need to learn for the Road Block in Leg 3?

Answer: Six

After the possible U-Turn, teams were instructed to travel to the nearby city of El Alto to find their next clue at Los Titanes del Ring. This was the Road Block. In this task, one member of each team needed to fit into a luchadora wrestling outfit, then face off against local female wrestlers known as the Fighting Cholitas. Once they performed the six wrestling moves that they practiced and gave the hat they had received earlier in the leg, they could continue on. Only one team member could be in the ring at a time, and if they did not complete their move correctly, they would need to practice it again. Ken, Marisa, Toni, Sarah, Ty, Nick, Kelly, Dan and Mark finished this task.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 3?

Answer: Mark and Bill

After the Road Block, teams made their way by taxi to the third pit Stop of the race, Mirador el Monticulo in La Paz. Once again, Ken and Tina were the first place winners of this leg (their second consecutive victory). For their win, they received a Travelocity prize sending them to Mexico. Mark and Bill, who misread a clue and took a taxi to the Detour (rather than walking) received a thirty minute time penalty allowing all other teams to finish before them.

They checked in as the last team and were subsequently eliminated.
6. In the beginning of Leg 4, teams were required to fly to what Oceanic city?

Answer: Auckland

Opening their clues in the beginning of Leg 4 at the Pit Stop in La Paz, teams were told to head from Mirador el Monticulo to the country of New Zealand one of the southernmost regions on the globe. All teams made it to the airport and took the same flight from South America's west coast to the Pacific island nation and find Gulf Harbour in the Rodney District of Auckland, the most populated city in the country.

Here, teams would need to untie a Gordian Knot to free up their next clue.
7. Which team claimed the first Fast Forward in the fourth leg of the race?

Answer: Ken and Tina

Upon arriving at the Gulf Harbour, teams were given their next bit of Route Info and the first Fast Forward clue of the race enabling the participating team to skip all tasks and move directly to the next Pit Stop. Ken and Tina decided to claim the reward and were forced to make their way to the mast of the Sky Tower and ascend to the top, over three hundred and twenty meters above the ground, where they would need to receive a Travelocity Roaming Gnome. Once both of them did this harrowing task, they could continue via helicopter to their Pit Stop.
8. Which team member completed the tattoo-matching Road Block task in Leg 4?

Answer: Terence

Heading out from the Gulf Harbour, teams were told to head to Mount Eden, a dormant volcano overlooking Auckland, where they would find their Road Block. For this, one member of each team needed to receive a photo and use this to match up with a Maori tribesperson's actual tattoo in the nearby area.

When they correctly picked their tribesman they would receive their next clue sending them to the CityLife Hotel in Auckland where teams needed to locate a Travelocity Roaming Gnome somewhere in the city using a pair of binoculars. If team members incorrectly chose their tribesman, they would have to start again with a new picture. Terence, Toni, Christy, Starr, Andrew, Aja and Brooke completed this task.
9. Teams choosing the 'Matter of Time' Detour option in Leg 4 had to create juice from which fruit?

Answer: Kiwi

Once teams located their Travelocity Roaming Gnome (which needed to be brought to the Pit Stop) they also found their next clue leading them to Kiwi 360 in Te Puke, the location of their next Detour. This Detour forced teams to choose between 'Matter of Time' and 'Matter of Skill'.

In 'Matter of Time', completed by Terence and Sarah, Marisa and Brooke, and Kelly and Christy, teams needed to squash kiwi fruit with their feet to make twelve quarts of juice, then drink a glass of the it to receive their clue.

In 'Matter of Skill', completed by Nick and Starr, Toni and Dallas, Aja and Ty and Andrew and Dan, teams needed to build, and then pilot blokarts along a track. After completing three laps in these obscure vehicles they could receive their clue.
10. Which team was eliminated at the Summerhill Rec Farm in Leg 4?

Answer: Marisa and Brooke

After the Detour, teams were required to drive to the next Pit Stop, the Summerhill Rec Farm in Tauranga, New Zealand, where they would be checked in by Phil and his father. Ken and Tina arrived in first place having braved the Fast Forward task early in the leg. Since they arrived with their Travelocity Roaming Gnome they were also rewarded with a trip to Rio de Janeiro to see Carnival. Marisa and Brooke, who faltered early on in the race, were unable to hold their footing and fell into last place at the Pit Stop becoming the fourth eliminated team.
