Taking the bullet train from Tokyo to Nagano in Leg 2, teams arrived at Matsushiro Castle to find their first Road Block. For this task, team members needed to 'think outside of the box' by taking the time to solve a complicated Japanese puzzle box. If they could finagle their way into the box they could find a slip of paper which, when read properly to the castle guards, could be traded for their next clue. One of these clues, obtained by Harley and Jonathan, actually contained a pass for 'Date Night' during the next Pit Stop. Jeff, Tyler, Jelani, Aly, Mike, Harley, Bergen, Ashley, Hayley, and Libby completed this task.

Answer: Jeff and Lyda

Although it was only the first leg of the race, teams were warned at the starting line that they would be encountering a Blind Double U-Turn before heading to the first Pit Stop. Though both Mike and Rochelle and Jeff and Lyda used the U-Turn (on Jeff and Lyda and Jeff and Jackie respectively), the latter did so late in the leg. They were forced to complete both Detour tasks and were eliminated in eleventh place. In this Leg, teams either completed 'Syncing Steps', joining local musicians World Order, to learn the choreography to one of their songs, or 'Samurai Sake', where they had to memorize the names of ten sakes, take a drink order, and relay it to their partner at the bar. Jeff and Jackie and Harley and Jonathan were the only ones to voluntarily complete the sake task.

Answer: Amsterdam

Setting out from their campsites at the Goanikontes Oasis outside of Swakopmund, Namibia, the final five teams needed to get themselves to the airport in Windhoek and fly to Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. After catching a five thousand mile flight (connecting through Johannesburg, South Africa), teams would be able to hop into a taxi and make their way to Jagershuis in the town of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, south of the capital, where they could nab their next clue outside.

Answer: France

Starting Leg 7 on the edge of France's border with Monaco in the town of Cap-d'Ail, the top six teams were told to catch a flight to the nation of Namibia, ten hours south of their spot on the Mediterranean Sea. Upon arrival, the six teams could sign up for one of six bush plane flights taking them from Windhoek to a mystery destination. Descending to the dirt runway in the middle of the Namibian wilderness, they could get their next clue inside the Ford Ranger vehicles waiting for them.

Answer: Munich

Leaving Bangkok, Thailand in Leg 5, teams were required to book a thirteen hour flight to the city of Munich, Germany, and because of this, all eight pairs took a thirteen hour flight, together, into the wintery landscape of Bavaria. Upon arrival, teams took a train into the city proper and visited the clothing establishment known as Wies'n Tracht & Mehr whereupon they were fitted for lederhosen and dirndl. They would spend the rest of this leg in these traditional outfits, regardless of tasks.

Answer: Phuket

Heading out from the race's second Pit Stop in Patio Daemon, Nagano, teams needed to take the bullet train through Japan, back to Tokyo, to catch a flight taking them to Thailand as soon as possible-- the race would be taking them to Phuket in the southern end of the country. This being the first opportunity for teams to book their own flights, a number of teams arrived in the late evening, but one team wasn't able to book a flight until the next morning.

Answer: California

To commence this special race around the world, six teams and five single men reached the starting line on the edge of Castaic Lake, California. There, while the six dating teams watched, the five singles met their race partners for the very first time to embark on a blind date around the world for one million dollars. When Phil gave the go-ahead to collect tickets to their first destination, all eleven duos, dating new and old, were able to complete a lengthy obstacle course (including mud run and pit of ice water). The first eight tickets were for the first flight; the last three were for a second. Hopping into their Ford Fusion Hybrids, they were off!

Answer: 'Share'

Arriving at Nishi-guchi Zenkō-ji in Nagano, teams found a choice between two vague task names 'Share' and 'Care') and had to head to their destinations to get more information about what the tasks would end up being. In 'Share', teams visited a noodle bar where they had to feed each other fresh noodles in front of a blowing fan. If they could clear their bowls they would get to head to the Pit Stop. In 'Chair', teams visited the Olympic Speed Skating rink and had to take turns pushing each other around the track in ice skates for a combined time of three minutes, fifty-five seconds. Laura and Tyler, Jelani and Jenny, Harley and Jonathan, Bergen and Kurt, Mike and Rochelle, and CJ and Libby completed 'Share' while Aly and Steve, Jeff and Jackie, Matt and Ashley, and Hayley and Blair completed 'Chair'.

Answer: Two & 2

Completing their mosaic search task upon arriving in Trujillo, teams had the opportunity to engage with the final Detour task of the race. The first of these options was the race's third dance challenge and perhaps the one most reliant on their attitude. Though teams had to get the steps right for 'Shake Your Hips', they also had to evoke the rhythm, flavour, and flair of the colourful traditional Peruvian dance known as the marinera. Once they had it all down, they could get their next clue. Jelani and Jenny and Mike and Rochelle opted for this task.

Answer: Matt

Finding clues outside of Jagershuis, teams were presented with a Road Block ('Who's got a nice set of klompen?'). For this task, the selected team member needed to enter Jagershuis and, with a single wooden shoe, they needed to find the perfect match amongst hundreds of similar articles inside. Once they got the details just right, they could trade the pair to obtain their next clue envelope. For this task, team members also needed to change into provided costumes. Jenny, Tyler, Matt, Rochelle, and Blair put their best foot forward for this.

Answer: Tokyo

Making their way to LAX, teams boarded one of two flights heading to Tokyo via Taipei, Taiwan, arriving the next afternoon. They were also informed that this leg would result in an Express Pass for the first place team and that a Double Blind U-Turn would be available for use. When they landed, teams needed to take any form of transportation at their disposal to find a clue box at the Shintoist Kanda Shrine in Chiyoda. That's where teams found their first Detour option.

Answer: Bergen and Kurt

Heading to the lakes of Bavaria in Leg 5, teams visited the idyllic site of the Markus Wasmeier Museum for their Road Block, a short examination of German courtship. Pairing up with a vocal coach, team members selected for this task needed to sing a German folk song for their partners while they climbed a ladder to a balcony. If they could do this in-tune and while reciting the proper German words, they could get their next clue, otherwise they would be splashed with a bucket of water and forced to go back for more rehearsal time. Aly, Ashley, Laura, Jackie, Jenny, Blair, and Mike completed this task, but Bergen and Kurt failed to reach the task before all other teams checked into the Pit Stop, having been penalized by refusing to drive their Ford Focus through the leg.

Answer: Twelve

Anyone not taking changes with their dance skills for Leg 11's Detour could instead take the manual labour route with 'Make Some Bricks' for which they had to take a cab to the Chan Chan archaeological site and help preserve local adobe brick structures making twelve bricks using a local method. Once they completed a dozen properly formed bricks and had them approved by a foreman, they could wheelbarrow a dozen heavy, dry bricks across the grounds to the worksite (in the hot sun) to get their next clue. Hayley and Blair and Laura and Tyler got dirty with this one.

Answer: Two & 2

Reaching Schliersee, teams hopped into paddleboats to nab their Detour clue. For this one, Aly and Steve and Matt and Ashley completed 'Stein', during which they needed to carry twenty-two steins along a marked path through a busy Oktoberfet gathering. All remaining teams completed 'Stack', which sent them to Hasenöhrl-Hof to participate in a round of crate-stacking. If they could stack fifteen crates, vertically, without knocking their pile over, they could collect their next clue.

Answer: 'Samurai Saki'

Teams entering the first Detour of the race had to choose one of two tasks involving discipline. In 'Syncing Steps', teams needed to go to Shinjuku Central Park to meet up with J-pop dancers World Order to learn and perform a synchronized slow-motion-themed, choreographed routine. Jelani and Jenny, Matt and Ashley, Matt and Ashley, Aly and Steve, Laura and Tyler, Jeff and Lyda, Bergen and Kurt, Mike and Rochelle, Libby and CJ, and Hayley and Blair completed this task, some of whom took more than two dozen attempts. Instead, Jeff and Jackie and Harley and Jonathan completed 'Samurai Saki' much quicker; they had to go to the Nakano Sakaue Station Tavern and memorize ten names of sake. Then, they had to relay an order and find the correct bottle amongst hundreds of others behind the bar to get their clue. It proved significantly quicker.

Answer: 'Wheel'

Both Detours in this fourth leg involved a relay of tasks throughout the city of Bangkok consisting of deliveries and activities. In 'Water', teams traveled on foot to a longtail boat dock and took a ride to a local market to eat a 1,000 year old egg. After receiving a placard they could head to a local shrine to make a traditional offering to get their clue. The catch was that only the first five teams to arrive at the task could catch the boats. Laura and Tyler, Matt and Ashley, Aly and Steve, Mike and Rochelle, and Bergen and Kurt managed to snag their rides. The other four teams (Hayley and Blair, Jelani and Jenny, Jeff and Jackie, and Harley and Jonathan) took tuk-tuks to a local snooker club. When they sunk a red ball they could receive a bottle of milk to deliver to the Caturday Cafe whereupon they would feed the contents to the cats there to receive their next clue.

Answer: Soak

Reaching Munttoren, teams found a Detour. For this task, teams could either 'Soak' or 'Shuffle', and for both, teams had to bike to their task. In 'Soak', teams hopped into an electric-powered hot tub boat heading through Amsterdam's canals. While relaxing, they would need to find three rebus puzzles along the canals and use them to suss out the correct phrase ('Ice Skating Rink') which would result in their next clue. In 'Shuffle', teams instead headed to an indoor shuffleboard hall to play sjoelen. Fifty-one points would result in a clue. Laura and Tyler, Jelani and Jenny, Hayley and Blair completed 'Soak'; Mike and Rochelle and Matt and Ashley completed 'Shuffle'.

Answer: Three & 3

The head ranger of Erindi Private Game Reserve gave teams the Detour task once they traded in a salt lick, and with this teams chose between 'Track' and 'Pack', both of which involved engaging with animals in the Namibian wilderness. In 'Track', teams used telemetric technology to locate an elephant while in 'Pack', teams carved wildebeest meat to serve to a pack of hyenas. Only three teams could complete either task at any given time, but four teams ended up finishing 'Pack' due to staggered arrivals (it was Laura and Tyler, Matt and Ashley, Jelani and Jenny, Mike and Rochelle). Steve and Aly and Hayley and Blair completed 'Track', though it took much longer.

After their Detour tasks, teams needed to drive to the Markus Wasmeier Museum in Schliersee where one team member had to engage in German courtship, wooing their partners by reciting a poem in-tune and with proper words while climbing a ladder to a Bavarian balcony. If they properly sang the traditional song they would be rewarded with a clue, but if not, they would be splashed with a cold bucket of water. Aly, Ashley, Laura, Jackie, Jenny, Blair, and Mike took care of this task.

Answer: Two

After the Detour, teams were told to head to the Double U-Turn at Wakaba Higashi Park in Shinjuku. Upon arriving, most teams opted not to use the race mechanic, feeling that they didn't know the other teams well enough to use the valuable tool so early on. Mike and Rochelle, however, fearing that they were the penultimate team to arrive, used the U-Turn (blindly) to force Jeff and Lyda to complete 'Samurai Sake'. Jeff and Lyda subsequently used the same on Jeff and Jackie to attempt to protect themselves, but said team had already passed by much earlier on.

Answer: Beer crates

Arriving at Schliersee, teams navigated its waters by paddleboat in order to receive their Detour information and choose between 'Stein' and 'Stack'. In 'Stein', teams traveled to a local beerhall to celebrate Oktoberfest and were required to share the weight of carrying twenty-two beer steins (in one go) through the busy establishment, along a marked course to the end. In 'Stack', teams took a different approach to beer, stacking beer crates in vertical towers in an open field. If they could stack fifteen without toppling their tower, they could get their clue. Only Aly and Steve and Matt and Ashley completed 'Stein' while all other teams headed to 'Stack'.

Answer: Mike and Rochelle

Completing the Road Block, teams were told to proceed on foot to the top of the city of Huanchaco where they would find their final Pit Stop at the 16th century Church of Virgen del Socorro. Hayley and Blair won their second leg in a row and their third of the race, claiming themselves a trip for two to India courtesy of Travelocity. The catch that they and the three other teams (including last place Mike and Rochelle) were told to keep on racing as they would be proceeding directly into the final leg back in the United States. They were also notified by Phil that someone would be eliminated before the end of the race.

Answer: Matt and Ashley

Completing their Detour options, teams were told to ride their bikes to their next Pit Stop, the ice skating rink at Museumplein where Phil would be waiting at the mat. Laura and Tyler took their second win in a row, this time winning a trip for two from Travelocity and heading to the city of Seoul, South Korea. The recipient of this leg's Date Night award went to Jelani and Jenny, who claimed it with their Road Block clue. Matt and Ashley, who couldn't recover ground after the Road Block, were spared with a non-elimination leg.

Answer: Steve and Aly

After completing the Detour, teams were instructed to drive themselves two hundred miles across the Namib Desert to the next Pit Stop at Spitzkoppe. There, they would need to find a distinctive rock formation to find Phil waiting, on top, at the Pit Stop. Matt and Ashley won this one in a footrace, taking their first victory of the season and winning $5,000 each for their success. Laura and Tyler ended up winning their third date night of the season as well. The last team to arrive, due to a flat tire, was Steve and Aly. They were, however, spared by this being a non-elimination leg.

Answer: Bergen and Kurt

After their Road Block, teams had to drive themselves to their fifth Pit Stop on the shores of Lake Spitzingsee in Schliersee, Germany. Aly and Steve were the first to arrive, having stayed ahead of the pack throughout the entire leg. For their success, they were rewarded with a pair of 2015 Ford Focus vehicles, one of the largest prizes of the season. All other teams checked into the Pit Stop in due time, but Bergen and Kurt opted to take a taxi to Schlafwagenfabrik, automatically incurring a two-hour penalty for being unable to complete the task there. They ended up eliminated at a train station somewhere between the Detour and the Road Block; Phil came out to break the news.

Answer: Harley and Jonathan

After their performances onstage, the teams were told to make their way to the Sri Panwa Hotel to find the third Pit Stop atop the Baba Nest Rooftop Bar. Here, Mike and Rochelle beat the other teams by nearly a half hour winning a trip for two to Prague, Czech Republic courtesy of Travelocity. The next seven teams arrived within minutes of each other with Matt and Ashley getting engaged in front of them; Kurt and Bergen gave them their Date Night pass. Harley and Jonathan, hours behind, placed last but were spared from elimination.

Answer: Jeff and Lyda

After reaching the Double Blind U-Turn, teams were instructed to make their way to the race's first Pit Stop in an obscure place, a parking spot in the vicinity of the UDX Building in Akihabara, Tokyo. While some other teams had problems breaking down the meaning of 'in the vicinity', it was Jelani and Jenny who arrived in first, after only knowing each other for about twenty-four hours. They won themselves the Express Pass to boot. While the first three teams to arrive were all blind dating teams, it was Jeff and Lyda, dating for four years, who ended up arriving in last place, partly due to the Double U-Turn. They were eliminated as a result.

Answer: Dallas

Leaving Peru immediately, teams had to hop on a flight from Trujillo to Lima and then onward to Dallas, Texas, three thousand miles north and back into the United States to wrap up the race. Upon landing, teams had to hop into cabs at the airport and head directly to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas where they would be able to locate the cluebox somewhere on the property. It turned out to be in the parking lot out front.

Answer: Trujillo

Leaving the chilly city of Amsterdam, teams needed to make their way a third of the way around the globe to the city of Trujillo, Peru. Teams would have tickets available to them, arriving the following day, but were under no obligation to use them. As such, some teams arrived the evening before, leaving from Schiphol and arriving in time for the Festival de Fuerza in the city's Plaza des Armas. In the morning, teams left early with the warning to monitor their Fitbit Charge devices throughout the leg.

Answer: Swakopmund

After spending the night of their seventh Pit Stop in tents in the Namib Desert, the six remaining teams had to take a ride to the coastal city of Swakopmund (being driven by a local guide). Once there, they needed to visit a bookstore by the name of Swakopmunder Buchhandlung where they needed to scour through the daily newspaper to find an ad containing their next clue. Once they translated their German clue into English, they could head into the desert to the destination and find their next task.
