Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 26" Quiz

A Road Block is a task which only one team member may perform. Determining who's best for such a task might be tough under normal circumstances, but in the Blind Date twenty-sixth season of "The Amazing Race", it was just a bit tougher. Good luck!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The race's first Road Block was conducted in what Japanese city?

Answer: Nagano

Taking the bullet train from Tokyo to Nagano in Leg 2, teams arrived at Matsushiro Castle to find their first Road Block. For this task, team members needed to 'think outside of the box' by taking the time to solve a complicated Japanese puzzle box. If they could finagle their way into the box they could find a slip of paper which, when read properly to the castle guards, could be traded for their next clue. One of these clues, obtained by Harley and Jonathan, actually contained a pass for 'Date Night' during the next Pit Stop. Jeff, Tyler, Jelani, Aly, Mike, Harley, Bergen, Ashley, Hayley, and Libby completed this task.
2. 'Who's feeling flush?' In Leg 4, team members became mechanics, searching for a clue insisde which of these, found within an engine block?

Answer: Screwdriver

Finding an auto yard in Bangkok, Thailand in Leg 4, teams needed to choose one member who would remove the transmission from a faulty engine block using provided tools and a bit of elbow grease to locate the screwdriver misplaced inside. If they could locate the tool and open up its handle, they could find a small slip of paper with the words 'METAL CASTLE', the location of their fourth Pit Stop (which turned out to be in front of the Bangkok landmark Loha Prasat. Tyler, Bergen, Steve, Matt, Blair, Jeff, Jelani, Rochelle, and Jonathan were selected for this task and, upon arrival, Laura and Tyler nabbed the clue containing the Date Night ticket.
3. Which team never reached the Road Block task at the end of Leg 5 (around Munich, Germany)?

Answer: Bergen and Kurt

Heading to the lakes of Bavaria in Leg 5, teams visited the idyllic site of the Markus Wasmeier Museum for their Road Block, a short examination of German courtship. Pairing up with a vocal coach, team members selected for this task needed to sing a German folk song for their partners while they climbed a ladder to a balcony. If they could do this in-tune and while reciting the proper German words, they could get their next clue, otherwise they would be splashed with a bucket of water and forced to go back for more rehearsal time. Aly, Ashley, Laura, Jackie, Jenny, Blair, and Mike completed this task, but Bergen and Kurt failed to reach the task before all other teams checked into the Pit Stop, having been penalized by refusing to drive their Ford Focus through the leg.
4. Which of these did team members not visit during the Road Block in Monaco in Leg 6?

Answer: Casino

Arriving in Monaco by helicopter in Leg 6, the seven teams had to choose people to nab items on a short shopping list in the city. Steve, Mike, Jenny, Laura, Hayley, Jackie, and Matt (in that order) had to travel up into Monaco on foot to collect a bouquet of Grace Kelly roses from a specific vendor and a box of nine chocolates from a chocolatier.

Then, they had to return to the waterfront to find their partners at a luxury yacht in Port Hercules. Only when they delivered the items could they continue on with the leg.
5. The building Road Block in Namibia in Leg 7 asked if team members were feeling which of these things?

Answer: Grassy

Heading to Namibia in Leg 7, the teams came upon a traditional Namibian bushmen camp for their Road Block during which one of the team members needed to get hands-on with the local building customs to assist people of the San tribe in constructing new grass huts. If they could follow instructions and finish their lodgings, start-to-finish, they could receive their next clue and head deeper into the Namibian wilderness. Aly, Jelani, Matt, Tyler, Blair, and Rochelle 'felt grassy' and completed the task.
6. Leg 8's Namibian Road Block featured the use of which of these?

Answer: A Travelocity Roaming Gnome

Heading to the Ground Rush Adventures Skydiving Club, teams assumed they would be taking a skydive from far above the Namib Desert, but the task was a bit less intense than that. Instead, Ashley, Laura, Hayley, Mike, Jelani, and Steve had to run out into the desert to collect a supply case dropped from a low-flying plane (they would be able to run out to it and search once they saw it dropped out the door).

Then, once this was located, they had to run up a nearby hill to collect a Travelocity Roaming Gnome before reuniting with their partner at the starting point.
7. In the ninth leg of the race, team members completing the Road Block had to pay attention to detail locating which of these Dutch articles of clothing?

Answer: Shoes

In a small cobbler's shop outside of Amsterdam, the final five teams encountered an attention-to-detail Road Block in which the selected member needed to don traditional clothing and head into the cobbler's workroom to find a missing klompen, a traditional Dutch wooden shoe. Using their memory, they had to match it with a single shoe in another room and search through hundreds of near-exact replicas to find the partner. Jenny, Tyler, Matt, Rochelle, and Blair were selected for this task, and while most got it done early, Matt took forty-three attempts to get the correct shoe.
8. Which team member completed the sugar cane Road Block in Peru in Leg 10?

Answer: Hayley

Arriving in the fields of Santo Domingo outside of Trujillo, Peru, the final five teams reached their Road Block task at Fundo San Fernando. There, one member of each time needed to don protective gear, wield a machete, and harvest a row of sugar cane in a local field. Once they completed the manual labour in the hot sun of South America, they could speak to the crew boss for their next clue, track their Fitbit stats, grab a bundle of cut sugar cane, and head to their next destination. Jenny, Hayley, Mike, Tyler, and Matt completed this task.
9. Who, of these four, was forced to complete the Road Block in Huanchaco, Peru (in Leg 11)?

Answer: Laura

This Road Block in Leg 11 was the race's ninth, and going into the final leg of most seasons, team members require an even or close-to-even count of said tasks, so in order to make this work, both Laura and Rochelle needed to complete this one. For this task, both team members had to get a traditional paddleboard made of bundled reeds and carry the heavy craft to the waterfront.

There, the selected teammate (Hayley, Jelani, Laura, and Rochelle), had to brave the surf and paddle out to a buoy to nab their next clue.
10. There were two Road Blocks to be found in Texas, but considering how many teams remained, how many remaining racers, total, participated in Road Block tasks in Leg 12?

Answer: Seven

This might be a tricky one. "The Amazing Race 26" was the second season to feature four teams in the final leg (after season 25) though one of those teams was eliminated upon arriving to a later task. This meant that four racers-- Mike, Tyler, Jelani, and Blair-- completed a Road Block at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, but by the time teams reached the second Road Block task at Reunion Tower in Dallas, Mike and Rochelle had been eliminated. Due to the rule that team members must divide the Road Blocks between them if two are encountered in a single leg, Hayley, Jenny, and Laura had to take the second. Rochelle was the only one not to take on such a task before the finish line.
