'Futurama' - Season 3 Trivia Questions

1. The episode begins with a Planet Express shareholders' meeting. Fry ditches the meeting to go look for food with Dr. Zoidberg. They come across a Bot Mitzvah, but Dr. Zoidberg isn't allowed inside. Why is that?

From Quiz
"Future Stock"

Answer: He's not Kosher

A Bot Mitzvah is apparently a variation on Bar Mitzvah, the Jewish rite of passage, except it's celebrated by Robots. Dr. Zoidberg is a strange alien hybrid of several different kinds of mollusks and shellfish - animals which aren't Kosher for Jews. Of course, Humans aren't Kosher either, but that's beside the point. The funniest thing is that of all the characters on Futurama, Dr. Zoidberg is characterized as stereotypically Jewish.

2. The noise of a space-battle with space-pirates wakes Bender up. Frustrated, he picks up some ear-plugs. Where does he stuff them?

From Quiz "Godfellas"

Answer: In the ears, of course!

After taking a couple of plugs out of the box, he opens another box of fake ears, sticks them on his head, then plugs them up. This defies any physical explanation of course, but then again we're talking about a robot who runs on liquor and steals for his own entertainment...

3. At the start of this episode, we hear on the news that Bender committed burglary. What place did he rob?

From Quiz "A Pharaoh to Remember"

Answer: A municipal swimming pool

Bender hopes to become the world's most notorious burglar. Unfortunately, his daring raid at the municipal pool only got him three gallons of water, a pair of speedos, an assortment of poolside equipment, and misidentification by an eyewitness.

4. Complete the sign in front of Amy's parents' house: "Wong Ranch - You've come to the ____ place"

From Quiz "Where the Buggalo Roam"

Answer: Wong

As has been established previously in the series, Amy's parents are filthy rich. It turns out they own half of Planet Mars, and the BEST half at that. This is the first time we get to see their house. And if the sign at the front door didn't give it away: They are not very nice people.

5. What tool is Professor Farnsworth using to fix his What-If Machine at the beginning of the episode?

From Quiz "Anthology of Interest II"

Answer: A hammer

He's "fine-tuning" the machine with some hefty hammer strikes. It's amazing the thing still works!

6. What does the message say at the opening theme?

From Quiz "Time Keeps on Slipping"

Answer: For Proper Viewing, Take Red Pill Now

Live From Omicron Persei 8 is from "Fry and the Slurm Factory", Not Y3K Complaint is from "Brannigan, Begin Again", and A By-Product Of The TV Industry is from "The Sting".

7. What beer does Fry suggest that they should buy?

From Quiz The Route of All Evil

Answer: Lobrau

Why did Fry want to buy Lobrau? It has dots on it! Lobrau is also the beer that Fry drinks most of the time throughout the series.

8. Where is the opening scene?

From Quiz "Futurama", "Time Keeps on Slipping"

Answer: Central Park Lake

We see Hermes throwing a frisbee to Dr. Zoidberg who eats it and Fry bragging that he mastered the swan boats (which are actually real swans),"That explains these boat eggs." They later go to Madison Cube Garden for the basketball game, Planet Express Headquarters is probably the most common place in "Futurama" and Robot Arms Apts is where Bender and Fry live.

9. Leela grabs Fry's binoculars. What does she do to them?

From Quiz "A Leela of Her Own"

Answer: Breaks them in half

As a Cyclops, Leela can only use them as a scope, looking down one half and not the other. Why she breaks them in half is of course unexplained - what a waste!

10. According to Hermes' presentation, how much profit has Planet Express made from its deliveries in the past year?

From Quiz "Future Stock"

Answer: About $4

He shows a pie-chart representing profits, with about 1/3 of the pie showing profits from deliveries, and 2/3 of the pie showing an $8 bank error in their favor. Of course it does beg the question of where Professor Farnsworth's immense personal fortune has disappeared to (it's mentioned in several other episodes). Maybe it never existed?

11. Bender is blasted through the pirate ship. When he flies out the other side, what is he holding?

From Quiz "Godfellas"

Answer: A bag of swag

You can't stop Bender from stealing, not even when he's just been shot out a torpedo tube and blasted right through the hull of an enemy ship. Unfortunately for Bender, this swag is going to be of little use to him as he hurtles through the vast emptiness of space for all eternity. But it may cheer him up a little.

12. Complete the quote: "Boy, I've never seen him so down. ________________."

From Quiz "A Pharaoh to Remember"

Answer: Or ever before.

Scruffy the Janitor makes this comment. Scruffy appears every now and again, and never has any recollection of any of the other people working at Planet Express. They also seem to have no recollection of ever seeing him before.

13. The Wongs tell the Planet Express crew to make themselves at home. Zoidberg jumps on the opportunity, and draws himself a bath filled with... what?

From Quiz "Where the Buggalo Roam"

Answer: Champagne

Dr. Zoidberg takes every opportunity to make himself as unwelcome as possible in any situation - that's why we love him so much! He spends the vast majority of this episode making life miserable for the Wongs. Heck, they deserve it.

14. Complete this quote by Bender: "Being a robot is great, but we don't have emotions, and sometimes that makes me very ______".

From Quiz "Anthology of Interest II"

Answer: Sad

Bender asks the What-If machine to show him what would happen if he were to become human. The irony of course is that robots in "Futurama" (and Bender in particular) are usually more human than the humans! Bender drinks a lot, loves to party, and experiences a whole range of emotions in almost every episode. And he's about to get an upgrade...

15. What is Bubblegum's first name?

From Quiz "Time Keeps on Slipping"

Answer: Ethan

He tells his first name to the crowd in Central Park Lake when he challenges Earth. His name is also heard throughout the episode.

16. What is Leela's solution to the beer argument?

From Quiz The Route of All Evil

Answer: Brew their own

She says this, and explains to Bender that the kids at the Orphanarium used to do it all the time. This surprises Bender, whose head then explodes.

17. What is Ethan Tate's (commander of the Harlem Globetrotters) nickname?

From Quiz "Futurama", "Time Keeps on Slipping"

Answer: Bubblegum

For "no reason" Ethan "Bubblegum" Tate challenges Earth to a basketball game. Soilent green and Slurm are a food and drink which feature prominently in "Futurama".

18. "War is the H-Word" - What fake name does Leela use so she can enter the army?

From Quiz "Futurama" Season 3

Answer: Lee Lemon

The army has instituted a male-only policy so in order for Leela to enter the army she must use a fake name. Ultimately, her identity is revealed but nobody really cares.

19. Fry reminisces about his days as a pizza delivery boy. What does he recall customers saying to him after he had given them their pizza?

From Quiz "A Leela of Her Own"

Answer: "I didn't order any"

Fry wasn't a terribly bad delivery boy, but apparently the vast majority of his deliveries were practical jokes. In fact, it was one such practical joke that got Fry to the 31st century - an order to one "I.C. Wiener" at a cryogenic freezing facility.

20. Fry goes into a room where a support group for cryogenically frozen people is being held. Why does he go inside?

From Quiz "Future Stock"

Answer: Because they've got free food

Fry notices the sign, and exclaims "Wow, this is perfect for me!". Naturally, we assume this is because he was cryogenically frozen in the year 2000, which is how he got to be in the year 3000. But then the camera zooms out and we see he's actually excited about the "free food" sign! Unfortunately for Dr. Zoidberg, he's once again not allowed to go in for that free food.

21. What type of creature is used as cattle on Mars?

From Quiz "Where the Buggalo Roam"

Answer: Ladybugs

These creatures, called Buggalo (a pun on "Buffalo") are basically gigantic ladybugs with the black-and-white pattern of cows instead of the normal black-and-red ladybug pattern. It's quite creepy, especially when we get to the part where they are... ulp... barbecued for your enjoyment.

22. Who is the announcer at the game?

From Quiz "Time Keeps on Slipping"

Answer: Marv Albert

This name is shown several times in the episode. He apparently doesn't like the game because of negative comments including: "It appears to be a by the numbers athletic contest with no surprises whatsoever." and "And that's the half. Surprisingly dull so far". He also never shows any kind of emotion at all.

23. According to Cubert, why were he and Dwight suspended from boarding school?

From Quiz The Route of All Evil

Answer: Self defence

They 'salted' the Horrible Gelatinous Blob's son, Brett, because he destroyed their miniature black hole.

24. Who takes up the Globetrotter's challenge of a basketball game?

From Quiz "Futurama", "Time Keeps on Slipping"

Answer: Professor Farnsworth

Professor Farnsworth takes up the challenge of the Globetrotters with his "team of mutant atomic supermen."

25. "The Cryonic Woman" - What does Bender's career chip say?

From Quiz "Futurama" Season 3

Answer: He doesn't have one

Although Bender does have a human arm and the career chip for the human arm says "Prime Minister of Norway" this is not his career chip. Fry and Bender end up working in the cryogenic lab where Fry meets his girlfriend from the 20th century, Michelle.

26. At the Cryogenic Freezing Support Group we meet "That Guy", who will be the focus of this episode. We hear that he had himself cryogenically frozen in the 1980's. Why did he do this?

From Quiz "Future Stock"

Answer: To prevent dying from a terrible disease

That Guy is a sleazy corporate executive from the 1980's, and is suffering from a disease called Boneitis, which was incurable at the time. One drug company was close to developing the cure, but That Guy bought them out and sold all their assets, just for the evulz. He made a hundred million Dollars... and signed his own death warrant, as we'll see later in the episode.

27. What is the name of the species that comes to call Bender their god?

From Quiz "Godfellas"

Answer: Shrimpkins

The Shrimpkins come on board after a small meteor crashes into Bender's lower torso. They call Bender their Great Metal Lord - playing right into Bender's egomania. Things go downhill from there, as expected.

28. What amenity is added to Bender's coffin at his mock-funeral?

From Quiz "A Pharaoh to Remember"

Answer: A mini-bar

The Planet Express crew throw Bender a mock-funeral to show him how much his friends would miss him after he dies. Of course, he doesn't care squat about them or their affection towards him, and would much rather hear them talk about what a glorious magnificent bastard he was. Fortunately, this attempt has convinced Bender that life is worth living - by showing him how bad his funeral would suck!

29. What sauces are being served at the Wongs' Mars Day BBQ party?

From Quiz "Where the Buggalo Roam"

Answer: BBQ Sauce and Pepto Bismol

They're barbecuing insect thorax and feelers, so there may be a good reason to have stomach-calming measures around. The sauce is distributed through old-fashioned crank-pumps, and Fry helps himself to a big puddle of Pepto with his Buggalo ribs.

30. How much cholesterol does Bender have in his body when he is presented to the Nobel Prize committee?

From Quiz "Anthology of Interest II"

Answer: 40 lbs.

Zoidberg declares this after giving Bender a check-up with what seems to be a Star-Trek tricorder. It's actually amazing; not the cholesterol level in Bender's body (which was to be expected with all the stuff he's been eating), but rather that Zoidberg made a medical analysis that doesn't sound completely wrong!
