Curtis Armstrong played Metatron. Determined to be the new God, he spent season 9 scheming and killing people and angels. In the last episode, Dean attempted to kill him with the First Blade, but since Metatron was powered by the angel tablet, he was able to kill Dean with an angel blade instead.

After he killed them, a pink gook was left behind. The gook was all that was left from bones, skin, blood, clothes, etc. Castiel recognized these remains and realized what Dean was hunting.

After Dean discovered his deception and Sam kicked him out, Gadreel again possessed the bartender. While Jared Padalecki's character was a vessel for Gadreel for part of season 9, his character never worked as a bartender.

Dean then proceeded to open his trunk, revealing Crowley, and calling the demon, "the junk in my trunk."

He later negotiated to be set free in exchange for saving Sam from Gadreel, and by the end of the season had managed to manipulate the pieces on the game board in such a way that Dean killed Abaddon, and was reborn as a demon.

Cain also explained that he did not kill Abel because he was jealous of him, but he killed his brother to save him. Lucifer was going to make Abel his pet. Cain made a bargain with Lucifer, that he would kill his brother to send him to heaven, and Cain would go to Hell in his brother's place. This explanation came after Cain asked Dean why he saved Sam, and Dean replied, "Because you never give up on family."

The argument between Abaddon and Crowley was classic, with Crowley calling the Knight of Hell a "ganky putrescent skanger," and Abaddon asking Crowley how "it feels to be the Winchesters' bitch?" The Crowley and Abaddon scenes also provided two key clues for fans, but it was unclear whether they were clues to future plots or red herrings. First, while Abaddon was speaking to Crowley, she was at Castle Storage. This is where John Winchester's storage locker was located, as shown in "Bad Day at Black Rock" in season 3 and "Sympathy for the Devil" in season 5. And, Crowley stole the syringe containing Kevin's blood and secretly injected it into his vein. It was unclear if he had become addicted to human blood during the third trial, or if he needed the blood for a spell or to break the Devil's Trap.

In "Devil May Care", Dean entered the Men of Letters bunker, and Kevin shot an arrow at him, missing him and hitting the railing. Kevin was surprised to find Dean alive. Dean told him, "Yeah, because you're a crappy shot, Katniss." Katniss Everdeen is a fictional character from Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games". Kevin then told Dean what happened in the bunker, and that he had thought the world was ending. Dean later held up the bow and told Kevin, "Listen, the next time the world is ending, grab a gun."

But, he managed to capture Metatron in "Do You Believe in Miracles," but not before Metatron killed Dean.

Dean and Sam both told Crowley that Gavin needed to go back to his own time, or the "ripple effect" would cause problems, but Crowley instead allowed his son to remain in the present time, risking the dangers of the changed past changing the present and future.

Crowley was at his snarky best during "First Born". Since John Winchester had killed a demon who knew about the First Blade, Crowley asked Dean for help tracking it. Throughout, Crowley played Dean, leading him to a place where the elder Winchester brother would take on the Mark of Cain. Another Crowley gem: upon hearing there were no other notes about the First Blade left by John, he asked Dean, "Didn't they teach note taking at hunter's Hogwarts?"

A broken down tractor roared to life and impaled Jack, killing him. Then, a lawn mower turned on while a boy was trying to remove rosary beads from the blade, cutting up the child's arm. Unfortunately, she stayed behind and was killed by a demon working for Abaddon, but not before telling the demon where Crowley and Dean were headed.
