Weddings and Divorces Trivia Questions

1. Liz Lemon from "30 Rock" always wanted to be a princess so, as which intergalactic royalty did she arrive as for her wedding to Criss Chros?

From Quiz
Wedding Belles: Fictional Brides

Answer: Leia

If you ever wanted an example of a totally unromantic television wedding proposal look no further than this one. Liz has seen her slimy ex adopt a baby with little difficulty simply because he was married. She turns to her partner Criss and says "We may as well get married". "So, let's do it" responds Criss. And on that note they hurried off down to City Hall to get the job done. Thanks to Criss forgetting to bring along their birth certificates it doesn't happen however, in the process, Liz discovers that she does want this day to be a little special, that she does want to be that little princess and she does want to wear that white dress on her wedding day. So, she rocks up in her Princess Leia outfit - "It's the only white dress that I own" she insists.

2. Whose wedding in "Friends" turned rather awkward when the groom used an ex-girlfriend's name during the vows?

From Quiz Yes, I Do!

Answer: Ross Geller and Emily Waltham

"Friends" was an American sitcom that ran for ten seasons from 1994 and won multiple awards. 51.1 million viewers watched the series finale, making it the most watched episode of the decade and the fourth most watched series finale at the time it aired. Ross and Emily were married in the season four finale in London when Ross made the terrible mistake of calling her Rachel during the vows. Ross and Rachel had an on again/off again relationship for most of the series. They married while drunk in Las Vegas at the end of season five but divorced in season six. Monica and Chandler were the next to tie the knot but not until the season seven finale and Phoebe and Mike's nuptials were halfway through the final season.

3. In the popular 1970s TV series "Rhoda", the lead character married her sweetheart Joe Gerard in season one, but they divorced in season three. Who played Rhoda Morgenstern?

From Quiz You Said "I Do" and Now You Don't

Answer: Valerie Harper

"Rhoda", which ran from 1974 to 1978, was a spinoff of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Julie Kavner (the voice of Marge on "The Simpsons") played Rhoda's younger sister Brenda. The wedding show broke viewing records.

4. Alex Kingston played Dr Elizabeth Corday on the TV drama "ER." She married Mark Greene, an attending doctor in the emergency room. When she married Mark, she became a step-mother to whom?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Rachel

Rachel was Mark's daughter from his first marriage (to Jen). Rachel started out as a sweet child, but toward the end of Mark's life she was having troubles such as lying and doing drugs. Rachel was careless and Mark and Elizabeth's daughter, Ella, got into Rachel's drugs and almost died.

5. Lily and Marshall, from "How I Met Your Mother", are about to get married when Lily's high school boyfriend shows up. What is his name?

From Quiz Wedding Belles: Fictional Brides

Answer: Scooter

Lily had no intention to and certainly did not invite Scooter. Lily's mum, who tries to avoid the blame by stating "I didn't invite that professional squash player Dad busted you with", was the culprit. To stir the pot Scooter is still in love with Lily and he's determined to win her back before she ties the knot with Marshall. It's safe to say that Scooter does not succeed even though he goes to the extreme of trying to win her heart by quoting lyrics by Guns 'n' Roses. Like all good TV weddings Lily's problems don't end there. She has no flowers for the ceremony, her veil has been ruined, her photographer is replaced by a telephone camera and her harp player has issues. Just as Lily (and Marshall) feels the wedding is falling apart Ted saves the day. He reminds Lily that she'd always dreamed of having a small wedding, to forget the reception (for now) and get married in the park. And so they do, with Ted and Robyn (as witnesses) and Barney (recently licensed to marry people) being the only others present. They then return to the reception without anyone else knowing that they were already wed. (Additional trivia) Scooter, in this episode, was played by David Burtka who, at the time, was Neil Patrick Harris' (Barney) real-life boyfriend.

6. Another of my favourite shows was "Eight is Enough." In this series, Tommy's tutor, Abby, became his step-mother. Abby was a widow because her husband, ____, had died.

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Frank

Frank had played football for the 49ers for a year before enlisting and dying in Vietnam. Abby had been married for a year, but then a widow for nine years before she married Tom Bradford, father of eight children.

7. One of the most memorable weddings from "The Game of Thrones" television series became known as "The Red Wedding". Most will recall the massacre that took place but which one of Walder Frey's daughters was married that day?

From Quiz Wedding Belles: Fictional Brides

Answer: Roslin

Roslin Frey was supposed to have married King Robb Stark as part of a deal brokered between her father and Catelyn Stark. The alliance would allow the Starks to cross the river at the Twins and gain a tactical advantage over the Lannisters. Before this could take place Robb had fallen for and married Talisa Maegyr, a Volantis noblewoman who had been working as a healer on the battlefields of the Westerlands. To placate the Freys, King Robb puts forth his brother-in-law, Edmure Tully, as an alternate husband for Roslin. The formal eating of bread and salt with a guest is seen in the land as providing protection for a guest whilst under your roof. To break this bond was to incur the wrath of the gods. It was under this (false) security that King Robb and his entourage entered the Twins for the wedding. At the completion of the formal ceremony Roslin leaves with her husband to (safety) another part of the castle to consummate the marriage. The Starks are then ruthlessly betrayed and slaughtered. It is not revealed whether or not Roslin was aware of her part in this. This episode, "The Rains of Castamere", was the ninth episode of season three in the series. It earned its writers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

8. Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) is one of the companions of the tenth Doctor on the long-running British sci-fi series "Doctor Who". She is first introduced in a wedding gown, but what goes wrong with her marriage plans?

From Quiz You Said "I Do" and Now You Don't

Answer: Her fiancé turns out to be in league with the Empress of the Racnoss

Donna Noble, first introduced in the 2006 Christmas special called "The Runaway Bride" (one of the David Tennant episodes), becomes an important character in the overall story arc. She reappears in the 2008 season, seeking out the Doctor because she's bored with her life as a temp in Chiswick. Eventually, she turns out to have been destined for a critical role in the ongoing struggle to save the universe from the powers of evil.

9. Also in "Eight is Enough," some of the children got married in the show, in addition to their father. Whose dress did Susan wear when she was married?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Joan's

Susan was getting married to Merle the same day as Janet and David were getting married. (Merle and Susan had moved up the date as Merle had to leave due to his baseball career.) Susan had originally planned on wearing just a white dress, but Tom, her father, found her mother Joan's wedding dress. Tom explained that Joan had a dream that all her daughters would get married and the first one (which turned out to be Susan) would wear the dress she wore when she married their father.

10. This prime time show's 1985 season finale involved a wedding that ended with a group of terrorists open firing on the couple and their guests in the church. Which show and couple had this wedding?

From Quiz Yes, I Do!

Answer: "Dynasty" - Amanda Carrington and Prince Michael of Moldavia

"Dynasty" was the main rival to "Dallas" in the new '80s prime time soap operas. It ran from 1981 to 1989 and revolved around the wealthy Carrington family. The 'Moldavian massacre' as it became known had sixty million viewers and was the biggest TV episode of the year. In 2011 the "Entertainment Weekly" ran a list of the most 'Unforgettable Cliff-Hangers' and it came in at seventh place. Moldavia was in a state of unrest at the time of their marriage and a group of rebels decided to undertake a coup and attempt to assassinate Prince Michael during the wedding. The season finale ended with everyone lying on the floor either wounded or dead. Rumour has it that the producers were in pay negotiations with the cast and would decide who lived or died depending on how they turned out. In the end only two minor characters were killed.

11. Daphne Moon, a regular character in the long-running sitcom "Frasier", played by Jane Leeves, was all set to marry Donny. What went wrong on her wedding day?

From Quiz You Said "I Do" and Now You Don't

Answer: Daphne decided to run away with Niles

"Frasier" ran from 1993 to 2004. Over the run of the show, Daphne was hired to care for Frasier's father, Martin (John Mahoney), and Niles fell in love with her. He carried a torch for several seasons, although he himself was married first to Maris and then to Melinda. Finally, he and Daphne did end up getting married themselves, and the final season ended with the birth of their son.

12. In "Babylon 5," Delenn married John Sheridan (off camera, unfortunately). We see John and Delenn go off to spend some alone time together after the wedding. What object was in the bedroom with them?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: G'Kar's eye

G'Kar left his mechanical eye in the bedroom. In the last scene of the episode, Londo asked G'Kar where his eye was. G'Kar just smiled and the camera cut to John and Delenn's bedroom... with the mechanical eye facing the bed. Londo didn't give John and Delenn the Keeper until he had dinner at their home on Minbar and had found out Delenn was pregnant.

13. Which singer, who'd recorded "Impossible Princess" played Charlene Mitchell, whose marriage to Scott Robinson on the soap opera "Neighbours" was one of the highest rating events on Australian television?

From Quiz Wedding Belles: Fictional Brides

Answer: Kylie Minogue

First she "decked" him and then she married him. Scott first met Charlene in 1986 when he mistook her for an intruder at his neighbour's home. After challenging her he copped a punch in the face for his troubles and found out that Charlene was his neighbour's daughter. The Robinson's and their neighbours, The Ramsays, had been feuding for ages giving their early romance a touch of some "Romeo and Juliet" quality except here there was an abundance of bad hair and bleached denim prevalent. Charlene and Scott's wedding was an explosion of Chantilly lace and ivory silk (and more bad hair) and ratings that went through the roof. Unusually, for TV weddings, most things went smoothly and without a hitch. Unlike Romeo and Juliet, Charlene and Scott were not killed off, they simply drove off into the sunset and were last reported to be living happily in Queensland and had raised two children. Many years later their 23 year old son Daniel would make an appearance in Ramsay Street. Kylie (Minogue) used that exit to start a music career that has seen her rated as one of the most influential women in pop music. Her album "Impossible Princess" was released in 1997. The other ladies mentioned as answer options all had roles on "Neighbours" and would go on to varied levels of success in the music industry. (Additional trivia) The theme song to Charlene and Scott's wedding, "Suddenly" by Angry Anderson, was a Top Ten hit in both Australia and the UK and was chosen by Kylie as the song she would play at her own future wedding.

14. In both "Cheers" and its spinoff "Frasier", we were introduced to Frasier Crane's love interest and eventual wife, played by Bebe Neuwirth. The couple divorced after "Cheers" but before "Frasier". What was the name of Frasier's icy ex?

From Quiz You Said "I Do" and Now You Don't

Answer: Lilith

Lilith Sternin appeared in 80 episodes of "Cheers" and 12 episodes of "Frasier" (although she was mentioned in many episodes in which she did not actually make an appearance.) She and Frasier had a son, Frederick. Despite the difficulties of their relationship, they clearly shared some chemistry, since they continued to have occasional romantic moments long after their divorce.

15. In "M*A*S*H," whom did Margaret Houlihan marry?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Donald

"Hot Lips" Houlihan married Donald Penobscott. During the wedding, the helicopters came and Margaret ended up in the operating room... in her wedding dress. After they married, Frank Burns (who had been having an affair with Margaret) went crazy. Houlihan's marriage was short-lived, however, and toward the end of the series the writers showed her character getting closer to Hawkeye Pierce.

16. Abby Lockhart married which character on "ER"?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Luka Kovac

Abby originally dated Luka, but then moved on to date Carter. She and Carter had a falling out and she eventually ended up back with Luka. Luka planned a surprise wedding (under the guise of an ER banquet) for Abby, and even provided the wedding dress. They had a son they named Joe, after Luka's father (Josef). While married, Abby's alcoholism became a problem and the two separated for a time. Luka eventually found a job in Boston after leaving the ER and Abby followed him there to get a fresh start for the family.

17. The long awaited wedding of this couple was rather strange in the fact that the groom, the bride's mother and their celebrant had already died. Which couple?

From Quiz Yes, I Do!

Answer: Piper Halliwell and Leo Wyatt ("Charmed")

Piper and Leo's romance began in season one and finally culminated in their wedding in the fifteenth episode of season three. Leo was born in 1924 and died during the Second World War; he then became a 'white lighter'. Both the girls' mother (Patty) and grandmother (Penny) died before the series began and appeared as ghosts. This was their third attempt at a wedding. Leo was orbed away by the elders at their first try and Prue's astral body gatecrashed and ruined the second attempt but they were finally married in a small ceremony at the manor. Their grandmother performed the service which was attended by the sisters, their parents, Cole Turner and Darryl Morris. Lynn Dinovi and Lee Scanlon married in season six of "Medium" but they and their guests were all still living. Melinda and Jim were already married when "Ghost Whisperer" began but Jim was killed in season four. He then possessed the body of a man who had just died and they ended up remarrying at the end of the season. He may be technically considered dead and there were many spirits at the service but the main participants are alive. Though many supernatural things happened in the soap "Passions", the priest, Ethan, Theresa and her mother were all present in their original physical bodies. The wedding was interrupted by the groom's mother crashing her car into the church but that's another story.

18. On "The West Wing," in a flash-forward, the audience sees CJ in the future - married with a child. Whom did she end up with?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Danny

Danny, a reporter, flirted with CJ, the Press Secretary, a lot during the early episodes of the show. CJ knew it was improper, but flirted back with Danny. However, the Danny character disappeared only to reappear in the last season. CJ, who was no longer Press Secretary, and Danny got back together and in one of the last episodes the audience finds out in a flash-forward that she and Danny had gotten married and had a child.

19. This 1987 wedding between two young members of the Australian show "Neighbours" was an all time ratings winner in both Australia and England. Who were the bride and groom?

From Quiz Yes, I Do!

Answer: Charlene Mitchell and Scott Robinson

"Neighbours" was first broadcast in 1985. It became the longest running drama series in Australia and it is one of its most successful exports being sold to over 50 countries. The show was extremely popular in the U.K. - at one time it was their highest rating daytime programme. Scott was an original on the show while Charlene joined a year later. The young teenage lovers had a rocky relationship but married in 1987 at the age of 18. The broadcast a year later in the U.K. had 20 million viewers tuning in to see the pair exchange their vows. Vicki Dean and Simon Bowen finally wed in 1983 on "A Country Practise". Sally Fletcher and Flynn Saunders were from "Home and Away" and had their happy day in 2003 while Tom and Grace were the last to wed in 2004 on "Blue Heelers".

20. "Cougar Town" is a series about Jules, a divorced woman with a son in his early 20s; her ex-husband is part of her regular social life. What star of another popular comedy plays Jules?

From Quiz You Said "I Do" and Now You Don't

Answer: Courteney Cox ("Friends")

In "Cougar Town", Courteney Cox plays the wine-loving Jules Cobb. Jules's ex-husband is named Bobby (played by Brian Van Holt). "Cougar Town" premiered in 2009.

21. B'Elanna Torres, the Chief Engineer of the Federation Starship Voyager, married Tom Paris, the pilot. What was B'Elanna's nickname for Tom?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: fly boy

B'Elanna called Tom 'fly boy' a lot in the early episodes. We never technically see B'Elanna marry Tom - only have them going off into the 'sunset' in a shuttle that has a sign saying 'just married' on it. We do see the two characters marry in an alternate reality - but it was the duplicates of B'Elanna and Tom who were married (and shortly thereafter, die). In that alternate reality, they marry in their dress uniforms.

22. Amy seems to be the perfect match for Robert Barone ("Everybody Loves Raymond") but their wedding day looks to be a disaster until they step out onto the floor for their first dance as husband and wife to which Elvis Presley song?

From Quiz Wedding Belles: Fictional Brides

Answer: A Little Less Conversation

Amy, very sensitive and from a deeply religious family, has had a sort of "will they/won't they" relationship with Robert during the course of the first six seasons of the show. The main reason is that their two families, the MacDougalls and the Barones, do not get along with each other. Eventually these tribulations served to make the bond between them so much stronger and lends to their marriage in season seven. On that day Robert gets so nervous that he hides in the bathroom, the priest goes walkabout, Frank complains that the event doesn't have an open bar and, just as the happy couple are about to tie the knot, Marie stands up to object about the wedding. The reception is heading down a similar path until "that" dance. It allows Amy and Robert to stop being so formal and really showcase their personalities.

23. The series "Grey's Anatomy" is very hard on character marriages. Take Dr. Cristina Yang, for instance. She started a troubled marriage with Dr. Owen Hunt in the seventh season, but what happened to the first man she was supposed to marry?

From Quiz You Said "I Do" and Now You Don't

Answer: He left her at the altar and disappeared from her life

In the show's first three seasons, Cristina (Sandra Oh) was engaged to the brilliant surgeon Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington). She assisted him in his recovery after he suffered damage in a shooting incident, and the two became engaged. However, the marriage was (somewhat improbably) cancelled at the last minute. Burke's disappearance from the show followed upon a much publicized backstage argument between Washington and another cast member that ultimately resulted in Washington's dismissal.

24. Which character did Frasier Crane ultimately marry (and later, divorce) in the comedy "Cheers"?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Lilith

Frasier had gone out with Diane, but ultimately married Lilith (who was also a psychologist, like Frasier). They had a son, Frederic, who ended up living with Lilith after the couple were divorced. Frasier moved out to Seattle where his father and brother lived. (His move to Seattle took place in the "Cheers" spin-off, "Frasier.")

25. Buffy marries Angel during a dream sequence in season three of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". What happens when the happy couple leave the church?

From Quiz Wedding Belles: Fictional Brides

Answer: Buffy bursts into flames

In his dream Angel is anxious about stepping out of the church and into the sun but in a twist it is the human (Buffy) who bursts into flames and dies. Angel awakes, reeling from his nightmare, wondering if this is a sign telling him that should he marry Buffy it would destroy her. The dream may have been triggered by a visit Angel had received from Joyce, Buffy's mother, who expresses her concerns about their relationship. Joyce: "She's still just a girl". Angel: "And I'm old enough to be her ancestor". The episode is called "The Prom" and it proves to be a significant step in the series. The above events are factors in Angel breaking off his relationship with Buffy and he soon leaves Sunnydale and heads off to Los Angeles. The breaking of the sequence here and not viewing it from the bride's perspective was deliberate. After all, this wedding didn't really happen.

26. Most series leave their weddings for a season finale but one show had its wedding in its premier episode. Who was this bride and groom?

From Quiz Yes, I Do!

Answer: Carol Martin and Mike Brady

The "Brady Bunch" aired for five seasons from 1969 to 1974. Most reviews of the show at the time were negative but it has received a huge amount of success in reruns and overseas syndication. It was shown constantly from its original run until the early 1990s and continued in syndication. Mike and Carol married in the first episode with all sorts of disasters happening. Mike was a widower with three boys while Carol had three girls. Carol's husband or how their marriage ended were never mentioned although the producers intended for her to be divorced. Becky and Jesse were from "Full House". Jesse was an original cast member and Becky joined the show in its second season. Their marriage took place in season four. Robert and Amy from "Everybody Loves Raymond" finally tied the knot in season seven after many breakups from many issues for many seasons. "How I Met You Mother"'s Lily and Marshall were together since their freshman year of college, for nine years before they married at the end of season two.

27. In "The Waltons," Corabeth married Ike Godsey. What was her maiden name?

From Quiz With Her Marriage, She Got a New Name...

Answer: Walton

Corabeth was John's cousin. She came to the mountain because her mother had died. While staying with the Waltons (and driving them crazy), she met Ike and they quickly became engaged.
