The Observation Room, found in the east wing of the RPD Building, overlooks the Interrogation Room on the opposite side of a one-way mirror. While one campaign will allow you to go inside and claim the belongings across the broken window (since you can only access one room with the Club Key and one with the Heart Key), the other will have the mirror intact, and you'll have to cross with the high likelihood of a Licker pouncing through from the other side. This also happened in the original "Resident Evil 2" (N64) and could be quite shocking for the unprepared.

One of the earlier utility items of the game, your work is made easier by the use of general Wooden Boards marked with police tape. You might find that as you navigate the outer corridors of the Raccoon City Police Department, zombies will break through the perimeter windows. You'll be unlikely to stop them altogether, but you can definitely start to patch those up to prevent yourself from becoming overwhelmed by the walking dead. Once you board up a window, zombies won't break through ever again. The catch is that there are more windows than usable boards, so you have to economize to make it work flawlessly, and often on the fly. There are no other sections of the game that make use of these items, so you can pack them away when you realize there's no going back.

The statue will drop the Scepter, allowing you to examine it to reveal a Red Jewel. This Red Jewel can then be added to the top of a Bejewelled Box to open it and reveal a S.T.A.R.S. Badge that converts into a USB Dongle you can use on the terminal in the S.T.A.R.S. Office in the west wing of the RPD Building. With that you can claim the Magnum as Leon or the Submachine Gun as Claire. Flipping it back to badge form will allow you to claim a weapon modification beneath the building as well.

Navigating just the RPD Building will only take you so far, and when you realize that the place is swarming with undead things, it'll be important to think of an escape route. The first thing to give the illusion of escape is the Maiden Statue in the Main Lobby, which can have its bottom drop out to provide access to a hidden office if you locate a Unicorn, Lion, and Maiden Medallion and place all three in the front console of the statue. Each is found in the RPD Building and each is protected by a three-symbol code. These should generally be solvable using a notebook left behind in the building, but you might need to get clever with the darkroom...and a Detonator...to figure out the whole thing.

Mizoil Gas Station is located in rural Arklay County, USA. After a first encounter with some zombies, whoever you're playing as, Leon or Claire, will be rescued by the other. The pair escape in an abandoned police car and head for Raccoon City.

He's indestructible until scripted events later in the game, so fighting him is generally a waste of ammunition. But you do get a trophy for shooting his hat off, so there's that!
