Ratchet and Clank Trivia Questions

1. Ratchet is seen working in a garage. What is the name of the person who owns this garage?

From Quiz
"Ratchet & Clank" PS4: Planet Veldin

Answer: Grim

Grim is a mechanic who comes from the Polaris Galaxy. His garage on Veldin is for repairing spaceships.

2. Scattered across the galaxy once again are the coveted gold bolts. For what purpose are the gold bolts in the 2016 "Ratchet & Clank" used?

From Quiz "Ratchet & Clank": Then vs Now

Answer: Unlocking extras (cheats, game augmentations, etc.)

In the 2002 "Ratchet & Clank", gold bolts were used in conjunction with regular bolts to purchase the rare gold weapons. Aside from the cosmetic differences between their regular counterparts, some gold weapons offered a small modification to their regular usage (the gold Morph-o-Ray, for instance, increased the size of the chickens into which enemies were transformed). In the 2016 "Ratchet & Clank", gold bolts are relegated to unlocking some goodies in the Pause menu that affect the game in small ways. For instance, gather enough gold bolts and you'll be able to change all collectable bolts to look like "Zelda"-esque gems, or substitute Ratchet's fuzzy lombax head for Victor Von Ion's bonce.

3. Who is Captain Qwark relaying the game's story to in the prison?

From Quiz 9 for 10 - "Ratchet & Clank" (PS4)

Answer: Shiv Helix

At the beginning of the game, we see Captain Qwark in prison, for a crime as yet unknown. He relates his (at times embellished for the sake of his ego) story to fellow inmate Shiv Helix, who initially expresses awe at the feats accomplished by his new cellmate but eventually becomes dismayed at his treachery and betrayal of the Galactic Rangers.

4. What "Ratchet and Clank" game is Zurgo originally from?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank: Q-Force"

Answer: "Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando" / "Ratchet and Clank: Locked and Loaded"

He is referred to as the Qwark fanboy since you have to get him a Qwark figurine from the Plumber. In the game, he already seems to know Ratchet and Clank after they shamed Qwark in the first game.

5. Angela Cross is a member of which species?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank": The Complete Series

Answer: Lombax

In 'Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time', we find out that female Lombaxes have no tails in a radio broadcast on Pirate Radio. Markazians are the species that Talwyn Apogee is a part of.

6. What is the last planet you play on in the first "Ratchet and Clank"?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank" Series

Answer: Veldin

Veldin is Ratchet's home planet. Drek threatens to blow it up so Ratchet and Clank go to Veldin to stop him and that's where you kill him.

7. In 'Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction', we discovered Fastoon was the home planet of the Lombaxes. But in the original 'Ratchet & Clank', what was Ratchet's home planet?

From Quiz Ratchet & Clank's Adventures in Space

Answer: Veldin

Ratchet lived a life of solitude on Veldin, working on his own spaceship so that one day he might fly amongst the stars. After a malfunction at the robot factory on Quartu, an unusual robot, named XJ-0461, later nicknamed Clank, was created, and he subsequently escaped from the planet thanks to a nearby spaceship, but crash landed on Veldin after being shot down. Ratchet retrieved the robot from the wreckage and the pair formed an instant friendship. Clank was able to help Ratchet complete his ship, and the pair briefly set off into space before crash landing on Novalis, where their mission to put a stop to Chairman Drek's wicked plan began. In 'Ratchet and Clank 2: Locked & Loaded', Clank was given an apartment in Megapolis, on Endako, but he was kidnapped by a mysterious masked thief, and Ratchet went in to rescue him. After their adventure was over, and the Protopet threat was gone, the pair chose Clank's apartment as their new home. In 'Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction', the pair made their home in Metropolis, on Kerwan, having previously visited the planet in 'Ratchet & Clank' and 'Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal'. When the threat of Emperor Percival Tachyon and the Cragmites arrived, both Ratchet and Clank ventured through the skies and streets of Metropolis to find Tachyon, while the city crumbled around them.

8. What planet are you on during the whole game?

From Quiz Ratchet and Clank: Quest For Booty

Answer: Merdegraw

You don't ride Aphelion in this game and you never leave Merdegraw. You don't see Ratchet find Aphelion at the end of the game.

9. Where are the Lythoin Caves?

From Quiz Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty

Answer: Darkwater Cove

The Lythoin Caves are located under Darkwater Cove. Morrow Caverns are on the other side of the Azorean Sea. There are no caverns under Hoolefar Island. The Ublik passage isn't in this game; it is in "Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction".

10. What is the name of the girl/robot you try to rescue in the beginning of the game?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters" (PS2)

Answer: Luna

She turned out to be a robot working for the technomites that tricked Ratchet and Clank into getting Ratchet captured. This results in the technomites taking Ratchet's DNA for their clones. After they blow up the clone factory the Ratchet clones were sold as pets.

11. What is Ratchet's home planet?

From Quiz Ratchet & Clank

Answer: Veldin

This is Ratchet's first level and where he meets Clank!. Blackwater city is later on in the game (and, also, where we first meet Qwark). The other two planets also can be accessed later on in the game.

12. In the first game, what is the first weapon that uses ammo?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank" For Beginners

Answer: Bomb Glove

Yep, the Bomb Glove is from Gadgetron but it also is in the second game. You can get it for free in the first game.

13. "Ratchet & Clank": Which weapon do you not have to pay for?

From Quiz Tools of the Trade: Ratchet's Arsenal

Answer: Bomb Glove

You start the game with the Bomb Glove, so you don't have to buy it. It makes a great gift. The only other weapon you don't pay for is your wrench.

14. What is the first type of enemy that the player comes across?

From Quiz "Ratchet & Clank" PS4: Planet Veldin

Answer: Sand toad

Sand toads, also known as horny toads, are native to Veldin. They attack with their surprisingly big jaws.

15. The fitness course of Metropolis (now Aleero City) still remains, but it has moved from its original location. Nevertheless, the original course rewarded you with the swingshot; completing the 2016 fitness course wins you what prize?

From Quiz "Ratchet & Clank": Then vs Now

Answer: Gold bolt

In the 2002 game, we arrived in Metropolis, headed down out of the starting area and turned left to see a robotic Qwark on a spring who introduced us to the fitness course. Waiting at the end was Helga, who eventually parted with the swingshot for a mere 1000 bolts. Fast forward to the 2016 game, and the fitness course is no longer where it used to be. In fact, it's right at the very end of the level, adjacent to the Hall of Heroes (which used to be in Stratus City on planet Kortog in "Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction"). Its purpose is as basic training for new Galactic Ranger recruits.

16. Aleero City is found on which planet?

From Quiz 9 for 10 - "Ratchet & Clank" (PS4)

Answer: Kerwan

Once given the decidedly generic name of Metropolis, Kerwan's navigable city has been given a nominal makeover and become Aleero City, a sprawling... well, metropolis. Blarg, Big Al, bolts and, of course, the railway station can all be found throughout the city, along with the Hall of Heroes, home to the Galactic Rangers.

17. Who was responsible for motivating Stuart Zurgo to becoming an evil supervillain?

From Quiz Ratchet & Clank: QForce

Answer: Captain Qwark

Once a Qwark fanboy, Stuart Zurgo's first appearance in the series was way back in 'Ratchet & Clank 2'. He appeared at the Megacorp Armoury on planet Todano where he gave the duo the Armour Magnetiser, a device that attracts bolts at a greater range than usual, in exchange for a Qwark action figure (which, in turn, was obtained from the Plumber aboard the Flying Lab/Thugs-4-Less Prison Ship on planet Aranos). After Qwark was embroiled in many scandals and his reputation diminished, Zurgo lost all respect for his former idol and vowed to take revenge on Qwark for destroying Zurgo's dreams and ruining his admiration for him. Cue the events of 'Ratchet & Clank: QForce'.

18. What is the name of the strongest enemy (not the boss) in the game?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank: Q-Force"

Answer: tank & grungarian tank

Tanks move very slowly but they drive right over any barriers. After a tank goes through your walls, you have a few seconds to stop the tank from blowing up your base.

19. The R.Y.N.O is the most powerful weapon in nearly all 'Ratchet and Clank' games, but what incarnation of the R.Y.N.O differs from the original design the most?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank": The Complete Series

Answer: R.Y.N.O VI Protosuit

The Zodiac is a completely different weapon from the R.Y.N.O shooting electricity which will kill most enemies. R.Y.3.N.O is unlocked in 'Ratchet and Clank 3' after the game is beaten and is available for 3 million bolts.

20. In "Ratchet and Clank 2: Going Commando", how much does the Zodiac cost?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank" Series

Answer: 1,500,000 bolts

Once you enter challenge mode, the Zodiac is available for purchase. It can be found at the Vukovar Canyon on Planet Barlow.

21. In 'Ratchet & Clank', the duo were propositioned by a shady smuggler, who offered them a powerful super-weapon in exchange for a hefty sum of bolts. What was this weapon?

From Quiz Ratchet & Clank's Adventures in Space

Answer: R.Y.N.O.

Early in their adventure, Ratchet and Clank met the smuggler in Blackwater City, on planet Rilgar, as they searched the city for Captain Qwark. For 150,000 bolts, the duo could wield the RYNO ("Rip Ya a New One"), a weapon created by Gadgetron that was "simply deemed too dangerous for civilian use". When used, the RYNO shot out seven missiles, which homed in on anyone unfortunate enough to be in range. Ratchet and Clank later took possession of the RYNO II in 'Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked and Loaded', the RY3NO in 'Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal', the RYNO IV in 'Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction', the RYNO V in 'Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time', and the RYNO VI, a destructive proto-suit, in 'Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One'.

22. When Ratchet gets shot out of a cannon, where does he end up?

From Quiz Ratchet and Clank: Quest For Booty

Answer: Hoolefar Island

The first thing you have to do when you get to Hoolefar Island is to fix the supply beacon. Hoolefar Island has an Obsidian Eye on it, the only thing that can find Clank.

23. Where does Ratchet encounter undead pirates for the first time?

From Quiz Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty

Answer: Morrow Caverns

In the Azorean Sea, you will only encounter living pirates (before you kill them). The first time is in Morrow Caverns, after Darkwater is living again. In Darkwater Cove and Hoolefar Island, there are undead pirates, but the first encounter is in Morrow Caverns.

24. At the beginning of the game, Clank made something out of sand. What did he make?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters" (PS2)

Answer: a sand Clank

Once Clank was finished building it, Ratchet stepped on it. After he stepped on it he said he was done being a hero.

25. Who is Dr. Nefarious's butler?

From Quiz Ratchet & Clank

Answer: Lawrence

Al is the science geek. Sasha is the captain of the Starship Phoenix and Ratchet is, of course, the hero.

26. Dr. Nefarious has a little circuitry problem in "Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal". What is this certain fault that he has?

From Quiz "Ratchet and Clank" For Beginners

Answer: Freezing and repeating quotes from a romance show

Dr. Nefarious seems to go into these "trances"; especially when he's angry. Lawrence seems to love smacking him in the head to bring him back to the real world.

27. "Ratchet & Clank": Which purchasable weapon does not require any ammo to use?

From Quiz Tools of the Trade: Ratchet's Arsenal

Answer: Walloper

Notice that I said PURCHASABLE weapon. That means you buy it. You start with the wrench, and you find the Morph-o-Ray and the Suck Cannon in levels.

28. Where is the first piece of nanotech found?

From Quiz "Ratchet & Clank" PS4: Planet Veldin

Answer: On a bridge

Nanotech is the substance that heals Ratchet. It's found in glass crates which can be easily broken with Ratchet's wrench.

29. Formerly known as Outpost X11, the McMarx Sports Shack resides on planet Aridia. At the end of the swingshot course inside the large factory, 2002 players were treated to a Trespasser. What do 2016 "Ratchet & Clank" players receive instead?

From Quiz "Ratchet & Clank": Then vs Now

Answer: Hydrodisplacer

Twisting things around somewhat, the Hydrodisplacer is obtained on planet Aridia, rather than on the outer catwalks of the Blarg Tactical Research Station in Nebula G34. The Trespasser first appears a little bit later on planet Rilgar, where Slim Cognito gives it to Ratchet free of charge (at the end of the sewer section where Qwark's agent resided in the 2002 game). Aside from all this, the Hydrodisplacer functions exactly as it did: it plugs into a terminal and either sucks up a large quantity of water or deposits it into an empty, waterless reservoir. Similarly, the Trespasser still requires that you aim lasers, mounted on rotatable, concentric circular rings into circumferential locks.

30. Who or what guards the Meero Orphanage on planet Yerek?

From Quiz Ratchet & Clank: Nexus

Answer: Voltanoid

This huge robotic beast is armed with a harmful laser beam of sorts and a shield. Ratchet needs to stop attacking when its shield is up as all shots will simply ricochet off it. He can also earn a skill point by defeating this particular Voltanoid using only the wrench, a feat that, on the surface, seems rather difficult to complete, but actually is fairly easy if Ratchet's times his wrench attacks and jumps to avoid the sweeping laser attack move when it's telegraphed.
