4. The moose boasts one of the fastest growing individual organs of any animal on earth. What organ is it?

Answer: Antlers

The palmate antlers of the moose begin growing in the spring under a coating of velvet which has a rich blood supply to nourish antler growth. The antlers can grow at a rate of one inch per day. While growing they are softer and easily injured, but harden in the fall when the velvet is scraped off.

They reach weight of 50 or 60 pounds and can be 4 to 6 feet across, though the largest antlers recorded were almost 7 feet across. After mating in the fall, the antlers are shed, only to re-grow the following spring. With each subsequent year, a moose's antlers increase in size.
