Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name given to hill kangaroos?

Answer: Wallaroos

Wallaroos live among rocky outcrops on the Australian plains. They grow to about 4ft tall and are more sturdily built than the more common gray or red kangaroos.
2. How many species of armadillo are there?

Answer: 20

The species range in size from ones as small as a rat to ones about the size of a pig.
3. The antlion is a type of anteater, closely related to the aardvark.

Answer: False

It is actually a large-winged insect that looks a lot like a dragonfly. They are called antlions because the larvae lie in wait for ants, and other prey, which fall into specially dug pits.
4. How do glass snakes get their name?

Glass snakes are not really snakes but are actually legless lizards. You can tell the difference by the fact that they have ears and their jaws do not expand as a snakes do.

6. The collared lemming is the only rodent that turns white in winter.

Answer: Yes

Lemmings are normally brown but in the winter the collared lemming changes to white; also during the winter extra claws grow on their forefeet to allow them to dig in the snow more easily.

Answer: Madagascar and the Comoro Islands

There are about 20 species; some resemble hedgehogs while others look like shrews or moles. Most species are nocturnal and live in burrows.
