Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sadly, Dawn French's father died at the age of 45. How did he die?

Answer: He committed suicide.

Dawns father had severe depression and attempted suicide a few times throughout his life. It was hidden successfully from Dawn until she was nineteen, but then he succeeded in his last suicide attempt. He had left the RAF by this point.
2. What is the name of Dawn and Lenny's daughter?

Answer: Billie

Billie is Dawn and ex-husband Lenny Henry's adopted daughter. After years of unsuccessfully trying to have a child of their own, they decided to adopt. Dawn reported having to be strict with herself to lose weight during the adoption process (people wanting to adopt had to be in fairly good health), but when they got Billie she caught up on her chocolate again!
3. Dawn had a small part in "Little Britain Abroad Part 1 & 2" (2006). What was the name of the character she played?

Answer: Vicki Pollard's Mum, Shelley Pollard

"Little Britain" (2003) was a sketch show created by Matt Lucas and David Walliams, featuring characters from all over Britian. Vicki Pollard was a troubled teen and it was easy to see why after meeting her mother, played by Dawn.
4. What part did Dawn play in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" (2004)?

Answer: The Fat Lady (in the painting)

The Fat Lady was in the painting which guarded the entrance to the Gryffindor's common room. One time she wouldn't let the students pass until she had shown them how high a note she could reach with her singing voice. Needless to say it was more screeching than singing!
5. In 2009 a new dark comedy began starring French, among other well established British comedy actors. What was the name of this dark comedy?

Answer: Psychoville

French played the character of Joy, who was desperate for a baby and so pretended with a toy dolly. The whole village was very strange and were all linked by mysterious letters. Steve Pemberton (known for his acting in "The League of Gentlemen" (1999-2002) also starred in it.
6. In "Psychoville" (2009) what was French's character's occupation?

Answer: Midwife

Surrounded by babies all day, she had dreams of bringing her doll baby (named Freddie) to life. However, it did not quite go to plan.
7. This next series starring Dawn French was a programme with a bit of a difference. It ran in 2010 and was about a married couple. The title of the show included the couple's first names. Alfred Molina played the lead male role who worked at a garden centre. French played the lead female role who was a home economics teacher. What was the name of the series?

Answer: Roger & Val Have Just Got In

This married couple never really got over the death of their baby son years before. This was revealed as the series progressed. Roger and Val ended up splitting up, but they got back together again too. There are a lot of sad moments in this series, but a lot of funny ones as well.

It was very well written (by Emma Kilcoyne and Beth Kilcoyne) and superbly acted by French and Molina. The reason it was a bit different was because the series only had two characters in it (plenty were mentioned, but never seen) and the episodes were set in real time, the half an hour when Roger and Val arrived home from work.
8. In this dark comedy Dawn played a different character in each episode. She was usually the killer or victim. Each episode was a parody of the thriller/mystery genre. What was the name of the series?

Answer: Murder Most Horrid

"Murder Most Horrid" (1991-1999) ran for four series and was created by Paul Smith. The episode, which was based on a children's TV presenter, was actually repeated as part of the "Blue Peter" (1958) 40th anniversary celebration on TV in 1998. The episode was called "Murder at Tea-Time" (1991).
9. One of my favourite characters of Dawn's was the slightly simple and childlike character in "Jam and Jerusalem" (2006-2009). What was the name of Dawn's character?

Answer: Rosie Bales

Rosie was a sensitive woman who was not quite all there mentally. She was a lovely woman, but had to be looked after. The whole village looked after Rosie and involved her with village activities. The series followed the activities of a small village's (Clatterford) Women's Guild and the member's lives. Comedy partner Jennifer Saunders was also a character in this.
10. This comedy starred Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. It was set in 1782 France, just when the peasants were beginning to revolt. Saunders played Comtesse De Vache and French was her ladies maid Lisette, living in the Palace of Versailles. What TV comedy was this?

Answer: Let Them Eat Cake

"Let Them Eat Cake" (1999) was a terrific comedy from creator Peter Learmouth. Other stars included Adrian Scarborough, playing Bouffant and Elizabeth Berrington as Marie Antoinette. Sadly, there was only one series of this made, fingers crossed for another one in the future some time!
