Question 1 of 10
1. Hi, I'm Etch-a-Sketch and my sweeping curves have been mauled by many a child star, let me tell you! Still, one in particular stands out in my memory, probably because she was around during my early years. Ah, Walt Disney thought a great deal of her, and was responsible for much of her success in Tinseltown. This little gal shone in "Pollyanna" (1960), was double trouble in "The Parent Trap" (1961) and helped bring a Jules Verne classic to life, and that's just for starters. For six years this English lass was a formidable Hollywood A-lister, but she never really reached such dizzying heights again, despite working regularly as an adult. I have fond memories of this English rose. But do you know which of the following it is I'm talking about? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Well hi there quiz-taker, I'm Raggedy Anne and I am honoured to be introducing you to this next little starlet. Yes, the 30s was the decade that this little "Curly Top" (1935) shot to fame, and ironically, though she had very little time to play with dolls herself, her likeness was immortalised in doll form and sold to other little girls. Oh yes my little mistress was a talented little imp, with "Bright Eyes" (1934) and a mischievous grin. She was an adorable dimpled little thing. But Hollywood soon knocked her off the number one spot, the moment she stopped looking like an adorable tot. Who is this multi-talented little cherub? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Well howdy stranger, let me introduce myself. I'm Super Soaker and I'm here to tell you all about my baby-faced owner, who was once really into mischief - in his films, at least. As you well know, baby-faces have always been gold in the child star game and my young master was no exception. He entertained in "Uncle Buck" (1989), and in 1991, when he met his girl he made everyone cry after he lost his glasses. Still, his greatest moment was back in 1990, when he found himself "Home Alone" over the holidays. "You guys give up yet? Or are you thirsty for more?" Who am I talking about? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Quiz-taker, how nice to see you! Please come and dig me out of this box. My name is Tamagotchi and I seem to have been sitting here for a long while gathering dust. You see my light-footed owner had to take off pretty quick, as he was literally plucked from obscurity and became famous overnight. Yes this young English lad proved himself to be quite the twinkle-toes if you get my gist? There was no need for him to box as he was an instant hit. But what is the name of the child star I am describing? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Greetings quiz-taker, I'm Rubik's Cube and I am so eager to tell you all about my cute little owner, whose tiny little hands had no hope of solving my puzzle, not during her earliest child-star days anyway. Oh she was just a slip of a thing with plenty of personality. "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" (1982) even thought so too, as did a man named Spielberg, who became her godfather. Still, none of this prevented her from falling into the stereotypical child star trap, and needing at least two stints in rehab in order to bounce back. Who is this little "angel", who clawed her way back from self-destruction to become one of the most powerful women in Hollywood as an adult?" Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Good day quiz-taker, my name is Monopoly and I have been fortunate to see many young child stars come and go. Yet the young lady I'm thinking of will be forever immortalised on the silver screen, for she had a tremendous voice that could take the listener elsewhere, even "Over the Rainbow", perhaps. Her performances literally brought colour to the screen, particularly "The Wizard of Oz" (1938), which she will always be closely associated with. This young thing had a great deal going on in her personal life, and even as an adult struggled to handle her strife. Sadly her star was finally extinguished in 1969, but thanks to the enduring quality of her films, she will continue to shine. Who is this once vibrant child star who met such a sorry end? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Hey friend, my name is Furby and I am here to tell you all about my Welsh mistress, who owned me during the height of her fame. Ah! I travelled with her all over the world, and even got to visit the White House, because she sang for the President. Oh she really had the voice of an angel, I'm sure you'll all agree. I mean she sang for the Pope and the Queen of England, so this adulation does not just come from me. Like so many others she grew up with fame, but made it as an adult by playing the game. Who is this "Crazy Chick"? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Hello folks, I'm the Nintendo Wii, and I have been lucky enough to gain an insight into the world of one heck of a boy. Yes, it was as the "boy who lived" that my owner made his mark, and the whole world watched him grow up on the big screen. Now that was a jam-packed time for him, but he never complained. He enjoyed the "magic" of acting no end and certainly came out on top. Now, his look was very distinctive - I'll give you that. But which of the following conclusions will you arrive at? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Well hello there friend, we are Sea Monkeys, and we are delighted to be able to tell you all about our all-rounder owner, who was just a teenager when she arrived on the UK pop music scene in 1998, before blowing her competition out of the water, with "Because We Want To". Indeed she was a busy little miss, so it's a good thing that we crustaceans are quite easy to look after. She broke many a record, and the guys at "Smash Hits" were extremely happy with this. But as she grew up she decided to change what she did, choosing acting over singing, but never falling off the grid. Who is this multi-talented little lady? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Quiz-taker! Sit yourself down a while and have a chat. I'm the Nintendo Game Boy, and I was the perfect toy for this busy little miss during her child star days. She was always on the go, and I went with her, you see, as she worked on one set or another. Boy, did I get to see some famous faces - Oh yes indeed! Her first film was a double whammy, with both Cher and Winona Ryder on set. But that quickly turned into something a bit more "kooky", but eye-opening nonetheless. Full credit to her, she worked regularly and managed to stay away from the bad, for unlike many before her she proved to be more than a fad. Can you name my dark-haired little mistress? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Hayley Mills

Hayley Catherine Rose Vivien Mills was born on the 18th of April 1946, in London, England. Mills was arguably destined to be involved in the entertainment industry from the get go, as the youngest daughter of actor, Sir John Mills and playwright Mary Hayley Bell. Her older sister, Juliet was also bitten by the acting bug, and acted on stage as well as in films, even securing nominations for a Tony Award and two Golden Globe awards, and also winning an Emmy Award in 1974, for her role in the TV mini-series, "QB VII".

Hayley's first proper role was in the 1959 British film, "Tiger Bay", and it was this performance that prompted Walt Disney's wife, Lillian, to mention Mills as a possibility for Disney's next venture, "Pollyanna". Sure enough, Hayley Mills secured the lead role, which marked the beginning of a six year relationship with Disney, which propelled Mills into the limelight and established her as one of the most successful child stars of that time. However once her deal with Disney came to an end she was no longer a child star, but had become an adult. As a result, Mills' popularity and star power began to wane. Indeed though she continued to work regularly as an adult, and had a career spanning an impressive six decades, Mills it seemed, had peaked as a child.

The reference to the Etch-a-Sketch was intended to provide quiz-takers with a clue to the identity of the actress, as it was during the very early years of the sixties that The Ohio Art Company first launched the toy.

Answer: Shirley Temple

Shirley Jane Temple was born on the 23rd of April 1928, in Santa Monica, California. Totally comfortable being in the limelight, Temple made her first film at the tender age of four, but it was as a direct result of the 1934 film, "Bright Eyes", that she became a household name. Renowned for her mop of curly hair and dimpled cheeks, she became somewhat of brand, and her image along with her innocence sparked a wide range of merchandise, ranging from Shirley Temple dolls, (which came complete with a movie badge and a signed photograph), to clothing and dishes.

As with many child stars her popularity took a nosedive when she got older and after a string of flops, Temple turned her back on the world of film, in 1950.

Answer: Macaulay Culkin

Macaulay Carson Culkin was born on the 26th of August, 1980, in New York City, and was the third of seven children. Often compared to Shirley Temple in terms of level of fame, like her, Culkin too began to act at the tender age of four. Again, like Temple, Culkin received an extraordinary amount of attention as a small child, after he rocketed to fame in the 1990 film, "Home Alone". At the age of eleven, Culkin even hosted an episode of "Saturday Night Live" and was in high demand. However as with other child stars, such as Drew Barrymore, Culkin found it difficult to handle his newfound fame, which was made all the worse by conflict within his family. Once again, like Shirley Temple, he too took time out from the spotlight, and returned to it some years later as an adult.

The reference to the Super Soaker water pistol was intended to provide quiz-takers with a clue to the identity of the actor, as it was during the very early years of the 90s that the toy was first launched.

Answer: Jamie Bell

Andrew James Matfin, aka, Jamie Bell, was born on the 14th of March, 1986, in Billingham in the United Kingdom. He and his older sister, Kathryn, were raised by their mother, Eileen, and both took ballet lessons as children. His breakout role as Billy Elliot came in 1999 when he was chosen for the part, out of a group of two thousand boys. Moreover Bell was not only nominated for numerous awards for his role as Billy Elliot, but also won several, most notably the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. From this he went on to play Ptc. Charlie Shakespeare in the 2002 film, "Deathwatch", as well as other roles in "King Kong" (2005) and "The Adventures of Tin Tin" (2011).

The reference to the Tamagotchi was intended to provide quiz-takers with a vague clue to the age of the actor, as it was during the late years of the 90s to the very beginning of the 00s that the toy was most popular.
Who is this little "angel", who clawed her way back from self-destruction to become one of the most powerful women in Hollywood as an adult?"

Answer: Drew Barrymore

Drew Blyth Barrymore was born on the 22nd of February, 1975, in Culver City, California. Born into a high-profile and well-connected family, Barrymore's godparents were even superstars, in the form of director Steven Spielberg and actress Sophia Loren. Propelled into the limelight from an early age, Barrymore's breakout role was in the 1982 smash-hit, "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial", in which she played Elliott's little sister Gertie.

However as with so many other child-stars, Barrymore struggled to deal with the level of fame she received as a child, and by the tender age of 14, she had already attempted suicide and been in rehab twice.

However Barrymore did manage to clean up her act, and put her "wild-child" image behind her as an adult.
Answer: Judy Garland

Frances Ethel Gumm, aka, Judy Garland was born on the 10th of June, 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Her family were heavily involved in vaudeville entertainment, and the young Garland made her first appearance on stage at just two and a half years of age. Although instantly recognisable to modern audiences due to her performance as Dorothy Gale in "The Wizard of Oz" (1938), for which she won an Academy Juvenile Award in 1940. Garland starred in many other films as a child. Sadly however, behind the scenes, Garland struggled a great deal with her personal demons, which would follow her into adulthood, and eventually lead to her untimely accidental death as an adult, in 1969.

The reference to the board game Monopoly was intended to identify the decade as the 30s as this was the decade that the Parker Brothers really hit it big with this board game.
7. Hey friend, my name is Furby and I am here to tell you all about my Welsh mistress, who owned me during the height of her fame. Ah! I mean she sang for the Pope and the Queen of England, so this adulation does not just come from me. Like so many others she grew up with fame, but made it as an adult by playing the game. Who is this "Crazy Chick"?

Answer: Charlotte Church

Charlotte Maria Reed, aka, Charlotte Church, was born on the 21st of February, 1986, in Llandaff, Cardiff. Armed with a stunning voice, Church was propelled to fame in 1997, after singing over the phone, live on UK television's "This Morning" show. What followed for this young classical singer was an extraordinary journey towards stardom, which culminated in her singing in front of the Queen of England, the then President of the United States, Bill Clinton, and even the late Pope, John Paul II. In 1998, as a 12 year old, Church's first album, "Voice of Angel" shot to number one in the British classical crossover charts, firmly cementing her status as a formidable child star. In the years that followed, she was in and out of the tabloids, often due to unruly or drunken behaviour. However though her exploits continued to fascinate the world's media, Church made it to adulthood, relatively unscathed, at least by most child stars' standards.

The reference to the Furby was intended to identify the decade as the 90s as this was the decade the Furby became a big hit.

Answer: Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born on the 23rd of July, 1989, in London, England. After being cast as the lead in the "Harry Potter" films, Radcliffe's face became known around the world, and he rapidly became one of the most well- known and successful child starts of the noughties. Radcliffe was already a familiar face in the UK, having secured a television film role in "David Copperfield" (1998), as a fresh-faced twelve year old. However he achieved super-stardom while playing Harry Potter, which he did in all eight films.

The reference to the Nintendo Wii Console was intended to identify the decade as the 00s as this was the decade that spawned this games console.
9. Answer: Billie Piper

Lianne Piper, aka, Billie Paul Piper, was born on the 22nd of September, 1982, in Swindon, England. Her career began as a teenager, after she was spotted by "Smash Hits" magazine and given a recording contract. When her first single, "Because We Want To" hit the coveted number one spot of the UK Singles Chart in 1998, (when Billie was just 15 years old), she became the youngest artist to every hit number one. Subsequent singles followed, each with varying degrees of success, leading to her eventual retirement from pop music and dancing, in 2003. From there, she went back to her first love, acting, making the transition quite successfully. Indeed as an adult, Piper secured the coveted and now iconic role, (especially in the UK), of "Doctor Who" (2005) sidekick, Rose Tyler.

The reference to the Sea Monkeys was intended to identify the decade as the 90s as, in 1998, Sea Monkeys were named the most Educational Toy of the Year by the Toy Retailers Association.

Unlike many of her fellow child stars, Ricci made the transition to adult and thus adult roles successfully, and managed to carve out a successful adult career in Hollywood, securing roles in critically-acclaimed films such as "Sleepy Hollow" (1999) and "Monster" (2003).

The reference to the Nintendo Game Boy was intended to identify the decade as the 90s, as in 1991 it was named Toy of the Year by the Toy Retailers Association.
