Ricky's co-star was Jon Voight. Ricky's outstanding performance as TJ was very moving. TJ's father was a single dad and the two were happy. TJ's mother, Annie returned and wanted custody of her son. TJ was torn between his two parents. TJ had high hopes of his father returning to the ring. Billy shaped up and fought again, winning the heart of many and proving he was a true champ.

The ending with TJ and "The Champ" was the one most viewers remember from this movie. "Kramer vs Kramer" was the winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1980 and won 5 Oscars. "Theme from Ice Castles: Through the Eyes of Love" was nominated for Achievement in Music for Original Song. "Salem's Lot" was a Stephen King horror thriller novel that starred David Soul.

Ricky was a spoiled brat and his father was a millionaire, who thought that money could buy his son's happiness. In many ways, Ricky was more mature than the father in this series.

Rick portrayed Newt Dobbs in both of the mini series but he did not appear in the TV series. Newt was the adopted son of Maggie and Woodrow. When the scenes began, he was a teenager and then became a young man. I was pleased that he agreed to reprise the role instead of a recast. This was a wonderful western epic with gorgeous scenery. It inspired Rick to move to Colorado.

"NYPD Blue" premiered in 1993. Rick's character, Danny had various problems during his career. He seemed to be approaching peace in his life, but was murdered while undercover. Rick earned a Viewers for Quality Television Award nomination for Best Actor in a Quality Drama for his role in "NYPD Blue".

Rick named his oldest son Holden after Bill Holden. Ten year old Ricky called Bill Holden 'Billy Willy' during production of the 1980 movie titled "The Earthling". A little tidbit of info here. The director cut two shots of a scene: the director's way and Ricky's. It was Ricky's version that made it to the final cut!
