Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This actor came by his acting genes legitimately. Both his mother and father were actors. In 1972 he was in 'The Other', an eerie story about twin boys. The story was written by Tom Tryon who was a popular actor in the '60s. Who played a character called Rider in 'The Other'?

Answer: John Ritter

John Ritter was best known for his light hearted parts, like a recurring role on 'The Love Boat', a TV series that ran from 1977 to 1987; starring as one of three roommates on 'Three's Company', on TV from 1976 to 1984; or as a voice on the TV series 'King Of The Hill' that premiered in 1997.

But he also had a serious side, proven by his role in 'Sling Blade' (1996) and as a lawman in 'Bride Of Chucky' (1998). John died at age 54 of heart problems, after heart surgery.
2. This person had an uncredited role as a basketball player in the 1992 movie 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'. In between parts in two really big movies, this person starred in 'Phantoms', a 1998 sci-fi/horror movie. Who is this actor?

Answer: Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck and his buddy Matt Damon wrote and starred in 'Good Will Hunting'. When that movie was released in 1997, those two guys became famous. In 1999, Ben was one of many stars of 'Armageddon'. He went on to make 'Pearl Harbor' (2001), and married his costar of 'Daredevil' (2003), Jennifer Garner.
3. This actor had a role in the 1992 movie 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer', and a costarring role in 'Sometimes They Come Back...Again' which was released in 1996. Who was this actor?

Answer: Hilary Swank

Hilary Swank started out on TV in 1990. She costarred with Michael Gross and Alexis Arquette (sister of Richmond, David, Patricia, and Rosanna) in 'Sometimes They Come Back...Again', a story based on Stephen King characters. She's probably best known for 'Million Dollar Baby' (2004) and 'P.S. I Love You' (2007).
4. This actor started his career in 1985 in 'Back To The Future'. In 1986, he was in a silly little horror/sci-fi movie called 'Critters'. Who do you think this might be?

Answer: Billy Zane

Billy Zane has had parts in a lot of movies that were anything but romantic or comedic. In 1996, he donned a hero suit and portrayed Kit Walker, 'The Phantom'. He was in 'Back To The Future II' (1989), 'The Case Of The Hillside Stranglers' (TV 1989), 'Twin Peaks' (TV 1991), 'Titanic' (1997), 'BloodRayne' (2005) and my personal favorite, 'Dead Calm' with Nicole Kidman and Sam Neill (1989).
5. This really, really big time actor started out on TV in 1990. In 1991, he was in the second sequel to 'Critters' - 'Critters 3'. Who do you think helped fight off those rolling, furry aliens?

Answer: Leonardo DiCaprio

After making 'Critters 3', DiCaprio went back to TV to appear in 'Growing Pains' (1991/1992). In 1995, he made 'The Quick And The Dead', a western with Sharon Stone, Russell Crowe, and Gene Hackman. He starred with Kate Winslet in 'Titanic' (1997) and his list of hits from then just goes on and on.
6. From 1985 through 1992, this actor appeared on TV quite a bit but only in a couple of movies, including 'Boyz N The Hood' in 1991. Then in 1992, this person appeared in the third and final sequel 'Critters 4'. Who got to participate in the death of this horror/comedy movie?

After the death of the 'Critters' movies, Angela Bassett went on to appear in 'Malcolm X' (1992), 'Vampire In Brooklyn' (1995) and 'Strange Days' (1995), and 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back' (1998). She returned to TV to play a doctor on 'ER' from 2008 through 2009 and was the voice of Michelle Obama on 'The Simpsons' in 2010.
7. Jason Statham has become well known for his action movies. But not long into his career, he too got to shine in the horror limelight. Which of the following movies from 2001 do you think he was in?

Answer: Ghosts Of Mars

Statham's character and his police team were on Mars to transport a prisoner (played by Ice Cube). Unfortunately, most of the folks in the remote mining town where he was being held were gone or possessed by Martian ghosts. When a possessed person was killed, the ghost just found another human to inhabit, so it was hard to escape them. Statham was born in London in 1972.

He had his first action, acting role in 1998 and hasn't slowed down. He's starred in 'Transporter' movies (2002, 2005, 2008 and 2009), 'Crank' (2006) and 'Crank: High Voltage' (2009).

He was in 'The Italian Job' in 2003 and 'The Expendables' in 2010.
8. Even comedic actors need to start somewhere and Dana Carvey was no different. After one TV movie, Carvey was in his first cinematic movie in 1981. Which movie do you think that was?

Answer: Halloween II

His part was so small, most people don't even recognize him. 'Halloween II' took up later the same night as 'Halloween' (1978). Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) had gone to the hospital and Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) was looking for Michael Myers. A news crew was reporting on the incidents and Carvey's character was an assistant on the crew.
Carvey is probably best known for many appearances on 'Saturday Night Live' from 1986 through 2000 and 'Wayne's World' (1992).
9. Comedic actor, Jim Carrey, got bitten by the horror bug early on. Which movie do you think Jim might have been in?

Answer: Once Bitten

Jim started on TV in 1980 and in 1985 he starred with Lauren Hutton in 'Once Bitten'. Lauren was a beautiful youthful-looking vampire Countess that needed the blood of a virgin male to remain young. Finding an eligible virgin in Los Angeles seemed to be impossible until she found Jim Carrey's character.
Carrey has made a number of movies including 'Ace Ventura' (1994, 1995), 'Liar, Liar' (1997), and 'Bruce Almighty' (2003).
10. This comedic actor is Ben Stiller. In 1992, he appeared with his sister Amy, father Jerry, and mother (Anne Meara) in a film. Which of the following do you think hosted the entire Stiller family?

Answer: Highway To Hell

'Highway To Hell' was a horror comedy about a couple on their way to Las Vegas to get married. On the back roads, the bride-to-be was taken to hell and her husband-to-be must find and save her. At the end, Satan agreed to let the couple go if they could beat Hell Cop in a race.
Ben started out on TV in 1986. He's moved back and forth between TV and film pretty consistently. He's probably best known for 'Zoolander' (2001), 'Starsky And Hutch' (2004), and 'Tropic Thunder' (2008).
