1. Ricky Gervais

Answer: England

Ricky Gervais was born in 1961 in the English town of Reading. Prior to working as a comedian Gervais worked in the music industry and was lead singer in the band Seona Dancing. Their highest UK chart placing was no. 79 and shortly afterwards the band split up. Gervais is best known in the UK as the creator and star of the sitcom 'The Office'.

He has also hosted the Golden Globe Awards ceremony a number of times including for three successive years between 2010 and 2012.
2. Tina Fey

Tina Fey was born in Pennsylvania in 1970. She first came to prominence on the US TV show 'Saturday Night Live' where she was both a writer and a performer from 1998 to 2006. Following 'Saturday Night Live' Fey wrote and starred in the sitcom '30 Rock' in which she played the head writer of a fictional sketch comedy TV show, loosely based on her work at 'Saturday Night Live'. Alongside her TV work Fey has also starred in a number of movies including 'Mean Girls'(2004), 'Sisters'(2015) and 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot'(2016).
3. Henning Wehn

Henning Wehn is a German comedian and the self styled "German comedy ambassador to the UK". Wehn was born in the town of Hagen in the then West Germany in 1974. He has toured with a number of stand-up shows in the UK and has appeared as a guest on many UK TV and Radio panel shows.
4. Billy Connolly

Billy Connolly was born and brought up in Glasgow. In the 1960s he worked as a boiler maker in the Glasgow shipyards before pursuing a folk music career in the 1970s. It was during the 1970s that Connolly moved from being a musician into a comedian. He is primarily a stand-up comedian although he has made a number of light hearted TV travel shows.

As well as his comedy work Connolly has appeared in a number of films, including non-comedic roles. One of his most well known film roles is that of Queen Victoria's servent 'John Brown' in the 1997 film 'Mrs Brown' for which Connolly received a BAFTA nomination for best actor.
5. Tim Minchin

Tim Minchin is an Australian comedian and musician. On stage Minchin mixes his stand-up comedy routine with comic songs which he performs at the piano. Minchin also co-wrote the musical 'Matilda' based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name.
6. Kapil Sharma

Kapil Sharma was born in the city of Amritsar in the Punjab region of India in 1982. He is known for hosting a comedy TV show in India called 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' which aired between 2013 and 2016. He has also starred in a Bollywood comedy movie, the title of which translates as, 'Whom Should I Love'.
7. Rhod Gilbert

Rhod Gilbert was born in Carmarthen in Wales in 1968. He studied at Exeter University and worked in market research before making it big in comedy. Gilbert has performed a number of stand-up shows and was nominated for the 'best newcomer' award at the 2005 Edinburgh Comedy Festival.

As well as his stand-up, he has appeared on many TV shows including hosting the panel show 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' between 2014 and 2015. He also has his own show called 'Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience' in which he tries out various different jobs for a few days.
8. Mike Ward

Mike Ward was born in Quebec in 1973. He is bilingual in English and French and has performed comedy in both languages. He is known as a stand-up comedian and has performed in many countries around the world. As well as his stand-up he as appeared frequently on the comedy podcast 'The Anthony Cumia Show'.
9. Dara O Briain

Dara O'Briain was born in the town of Bray in County Wicklow in Ireland in 1972. He has a degree in maths and theoretical physics from University College Dublin. He is known for his stand-up comedy and his TV work in both the UK and Ireland and became the presenter of the UK news based comedy panel show 'Mock the Week' in 2005.
10. Petra Mede

Petra Mede was born in Stockholm in 1970. She trained as a ballet dancer but was forced to stop dancing after injuring her back. She then tried stand-up comedy and made it big when she became a regular on the Swedish panel show 'Parlamentet' in 2007. She is well known to fans of the Eurovision Song Contest having the presented the contest when it was held in Sweden in 2009 and 2016.
