Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We know him as Nicolas Cage, but Cage wasn't born with that name. What is his actual birth name?

Answer: Nicolas Kim Coppola

Cage is a member of the Coppola family; director Francis Ford Coppola is his uncle, and directors Roman and Sophia Coppola are his cousins, along with fellow actor Jason Schwarzman. Cage changed his name from Coppola to Cage - after the comic book character Luke Cage - as he wanted to avoid accusations of nepotism.
2. For which film did Cage win his first Academy Award in 1996?

Answer: Leaving Las Vegas

Cage won multiple awards for 'Leaving Las Vegas', including a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, an Academy Award for Best Actor, and a Screen Actors' Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. 'Leaving Las Vegas' was directed by Mike Figgis, and was based on John O'Brien's book of the same name.

It starred Cage as Ben Sanderson, an alcoholic screenwriter, and co-starred Elisabeth Shue as Sera, a prostitute.
3. Cage has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In which year was he inducted?

Answer: 1998

Cage was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 31st July 1998 for his contributions to the film industry. His star can be found at Number 7021 Hollywood Boulevard. Three movies featuring him were released that year: 'City of Angels', 'Snake Eyes' and 'Welcome to Hollywood'.
4. Which ex-wife did both Cage and Michael Jackson have in common?

Answer: Lisa Marie Presley

Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis' daughter, was Cage's second wife; Cage was her third husband, the previous one being Michael Jackson. The couple were married on 10th August 2002, but the marriage did not last long; Cage filed for divorce three months later, with the divorce proceedings lasting even longer than their actual marriage. Actress Patricia Arquette was Cage's first wife, and waitress Alice Kim his third.

He also had a son with actress Christina Fulton.
5. What was the name of Cage's 2002 directorial debut, which also featured his brother Marc?

Answer: Sonny

'Sonny' received a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 23% and was not looked upon kindly by critics. Tellingly, Tommy Wiseau - the producer, director and main actor of the notoriously bad cult classic 'The Room' - was a huge fan of the movie, and James Franco, the lead actor, would later go on to play him in 'The Disaster Artist'. Cage himself appeared as Acid Yellow.

The film also featured Brenda Blethyn, Mena Suvari and Harry Dean Stanton.
6. Cage is a big fan of comics, and has voiced superheroes such as Spiderman. What was the name of the comic book that he and his son Weston conceived in 2007?

Answer: Voodoo Child

'Voodoo Child' was written by the British comics writer Carey, who has also worked on 'Batman', 'X-Men' and 'The Fantastic Four', and collaborated with writer Neil Gaiman. Dean Hyrapiet did the art, while Australian comic artist Ben Templesmith drew the premiere cover. It was set in New Orleans, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and features a storyline about missing girls and the son of a Unionist sympathiser being resurrected by a Voodoo priest.

(All the other answers, incidentally, are associated with musicians in some way. 'Princess Ai' is a manga co-written by Courtney Love, 'Umbrella Academy' is by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way, and 'Comic Book Tattoo' is a compilation of comics by various artists based on the songs of Tori Amos.)
7. True or false: Cage once purchased a Mongolian dinosaur skull.

Answer: True

Believe it or not, this is true, and it was a subject of an article on 'Cracked' about ridiculous things bought by rich celebrities. Cage purchased the skull of a Tyrannosaurus bataar from IM Chait, a Beverley Hills gallery, in 2007, to the tune of $276,000.

He outbid Leonardo DiCaprio for it. As the name of the dinosaur suggests, it is actually Mongolian, and the skull turned out to be stolen. Cage voluntarily handed it over to the US authorities, as exporting dinosaur skulls from Mongolia became illegal in 1924.
8. Which listed building in England did Cage buy in 2007? He sold it only two years later.

Answer: Midford Castle, a decorative castle

Midford Castle is a 'folly' or decorative castle - i.e. not a genuine castle - in Somerset. It resembles a club (as in the card suit). It has had various renovations done to it over the years, including the incorporation of the ruined chapel into the garden by the British writer Isobel Colegate and her husband Michael Briggs, who bought the castle in 1961. Cage purchased it for £5 million in 2007 but had to sell it in 2009 to pay off various debts.

His other real estate purchases have included Schloss Neidstein, a Bavarian fortress; Grey Craig, a manor in Rhode Island; and an island in the Exuma archipelago in the Bahamas.
9. What did Kathleen Turner falsely accuse Cage of stealing in her 2008 memoir, 'Send Yourself Roses'?

Answer: A chihuahua

Kathleen Turner had appeared with Cage in 'Peggy Sue Got Married'. Passages from 'Send Yourself Roses' were published by the 'Daily Mail', including a passage titled 'Why I Detest Burt Reynolds and Nicolas Cage'. As well as accusing Cage of drunk driving, Turner also claimed that he had spotted a chihuahua and stuffed it in his jacket. Cage sued Turner, her publisher, and the owners of the 'Daily Mail' for libel.
10. The title of this quiz is a reference to a 2006 remake of a British horror film starring Cage, which was widely panned by critics. Which film was this?

Answer: The Wicker Man

The original 'Wicker Man' was a cult horror classic, starring Edward Woodward as an innocent policeman who becomes a human sacrifice, and Christoper Lee as Lord Summerisle, the leader of a pagan cult. The 2006 version changed the setting to an island populated by women, with Lord Summerisle becoming Sister Summerisle (played by Ellen Burstyn). Both Cage's character, the policeman Edward Malus, and his ex-wife, Willow Woodward (Kate Beahan), were named as a homage to Edward Woodward. During the film's climax, Edward is tortured by having a cage of bees placed on his head, which leads to the infamous quote.

The film received a 15% overall rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
