Johnny Hart created "B.C.", which debuted in 1958. The strip is so popular that many of the Neanderthal characters have their own fan clubs. Hart also created "The Wizard of Id".

"Gasoline Alley", by Frank King, started in 1918. Since the characters aged, the eldest boy Skeezix was 18 in 1939. He was one of the first comic strip characters in uniform during World War II.
