Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We'll start off with a few questions about the superhero who is arguably the most famous of them all... Superman! What's another name for this superhero, sometimes tacked on to "Superman"?

Answer: The Man of Steel

Nearly impervious to most physical attacks, Superman is actually quite a bit tougher than steel.
2. While nearly impervious to physical assault, there is one well-known substance that can hurt Superman. What is Superman vulnerable to?

Answer: Kryptonite

Parts of Superman's homeworld of Krypton, now destroyed, are occasionally discovered and used against him. Only the radioactive green material from the planet's core can damage Superman.
3. Which superpower does Superman NOT possess?

Answer: Magic Hex

Magic powers are not among the powers The Man of Steel boasts. In fact, magic can be disruptive to Superman's powers.
4. On to "Batman"! What is Batman's secret alter ego named?

Answer: Bruce Wayne

Interesting background for the name. The first name is taken from the Scottish patriot "Robert the Bruce" and the surname is taken from the American general and colonist, "Mad Anthony Wayne".
5. Just as Superman has been known by other names, so has Batman. For this question, can you find the one name that has NOT been traditionally associated with Batman?

Answer: World's Greatest Vigilante

Batman is sometimes called "World's Greatest Detective", and he has also been known as "The Masked Manhunter" in addition to his more well-known names ("The Caped Crusader" and "The Dark Knight"). He was not, however, ever known as "World's Greatest Vigilante".
6. Batman protects what city?

Answer: Gotham City

Gotham City is a fictional city modeled after New York City, designed to show a much darker metropolis than, for instance, Superman's Metropolis.
7. Let's move on to "Spider-Man"! How did Spidey get his super-powers?

Answer: He was bitten by a radioactive spider.

"The Fantastic Four" were caught in cosmic rays, "Swamp Thing" was the result of a chemical explosion, and many mutants, such as "The X-Men", were born with their powers.
8. What job has Peter Parker, Spider-Man's secret alter ego, traditionally held?

Answer: Photographer

Peter Parker is traditionally remembered as a photographer for The Daily Bugle. There would be some questionable ethics involved if he were a judge!
9. What are the primary colors of the classic Spider-Man costume?

Answer: Red and blue!

With plenty of stylish web design. Apparently the original costume was red and black, with the blue being a means of showing highlights, but the red and blue image stuck.
10. Let's look at a different and perhaps less-renowned superhero. I'll give plenty of hints. His alter ego's name was Lamont Cranston, his show started on radio and eventually branched into comics and other media, and a well-known catch phrase from the show was, "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" This guy knows! Who is he?

Answer: The Shadow

Back in the '30s and '40s, this guy was as famous as Superman later came to be. Radio's greatest mystery hero, he definitely qualifies as a superhero... arguably moreso than Batman, who has no known supernatural powers (though he does seem to be in better shape than, say, anyone in the real world.) The Shadow had the mysterious power to "cloud men's minds". I wonder if he could cloud women's minds, too? Thank you for playing!
