Question 8 of 10
8. We are now in 1970 at Disneyland. We are about to enter the realm of inner space. We're going into the atom of a snowflake. Do we dare go into the nucleus? Well, no. What Monsanto sponsored attraction was this? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My first adventure in the time machine takes me to EPCOT Center circa 1988. On the horizon, I spot an attraction that was replaced by Mission: SPACE in what is now known as Epcot. I ride my "omnimover" past visions of future society just ahead for the 2000s and beyond. What attraction was I riding?

Answer: Horizons

Horizons closed initially in December 1994, reopened again in December 1995, then finally closed in January 1999 to make way for Mission: SPACE.
2. The time machine now flies me to Disneyland circa 1966. I am riding "The Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland" taking me through the American desert and a cavern with colorful stalactites and stalagmites. I even see those spinning rocks again! In which "land" would I have found this attraction?

Answer: Frontierland

The "Mine Train" was replaced by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in 1979. Toontown was not around when the Mine Train was running at Disneyland.
3. Next were back in Florida at The Magic Kingdom. I'm in Tomorrowland in time to watch a showing of the 360 degree film attraction hosted by a robot that sounds like Robin Williams helping "9-eyes" travel in time, imagine that! Name this attraction.

Answer: The Timekeeper

One of the most interesting scenes is when Jules Verne and H. G. Wells meet at the Paris' Worlds Fair. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was retired at the Magic Kingdom. Alien Encounter was replaced by Stitch's Great Escape at Walt Disney World. Monsanto's House of the Future was retired over 40 years ago in Disneyland.
4. While in Florida we go to Disney-MGM Studios, now called Disney's Hollywood Studios. I'm in a comfortable seat listening to American comedian Drew Carey as a detective, though this is not as dangerous as it sounds. With my headphones on I hear sounds but there are no visuals. What attraction am I at in the Echo Lake area of the park?

Answer: Sounds Dangerous!

The attraction opened in 1999, and was closed in 2009, but officially, it was retired in 2012. "The Price Is Right" is an American TV game show that Drew Carey hosts.
5. The time machine now takes me back to EPCOT Center circa 1990. I'm watching a show about "brain pilots" commanding from inside skulls. We are taken along in a day in the life of an adolescent. Is that Hans and Franz from "Saturday Night Live"? Norm from "Cheers"? What 1989 debut attraction am I at now?

Answer: Cranium Command

I was fortunate to see Cranium Command a few times weeks before it closed in December 2006. It is full of late 1980s US comic actors, besides those above, a few more were Bobcat Goldwaithe, Jon Lovitz, and even Charles Grodin. The pre-show cartoon was full of puns and a few inside jokes. Body Wars was a "Star Tours" type of attraction but more nauseating.

It was in the Wonders of Life pavilion with Cranium Command and was also closed in December 2006.
6. While we're in EPCOT Center, we are now on an attraction in motion. We learn the history of transportation on this attraction. Which attraction, replaced by Test Track, are we now riding?

Answer: World of Motion

World of Motion was replaced by the fun Test Track attraction in 1999. Soarin' is the exact same attraction as the one that opened at Disney California Adventure as "Soarin' Over California" in 2001. The one at Epcot opened in 2005.
7. We now go back to Disneyland in the time Machine. It's 1987 and we're riding a slow moving attraction full of people in Tomorrowland. In the middle, we go through a "super speed" tunnel with scenes of the 1982 movie "Tron" speeding with us. Which retired attraction is this?

Answer: The People Mover

The People Mover was closed to be replaced by the oft broken Rocket Rods in 1998. After about two years of malfunctions, the Rocket Rods closed down in 2000. The Viewliner was retired in a shorter time than Rocket Rods, about one year at Disneyland in the late 1950s. Superstar Limo lasted only about one year at Disney California Adventure.
8. We are now in 1970 at Disneyland. We are about to enter the realm of inner space. We're going into the atom of a snowflake. Do we dare go into the nucleus? Well, no. What Monsanto sponsored attraction was this?

Answer: Adventure Thru Inner Space

When we were young, Adventure Through Inner Space seemed so real. I was working at Disneyland when it was retired in 1985, and it opened as a new attraction, "Star Tours", in January 1987 at Disneyland.
9. We now jump ahead to 1976 and are still in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. We are going round in segments on this attraction. From the 1700s to the 1900s we hear and see changes in America through song. What retired attraction was this?

Answer: America Sings

America Sings was opened in 1974 as a replacement for The Carousel of Progress. It closed in the spring of 1988 with most of the audio animatronic animals being used in Splash Mountain which opened in 1989 at Disneyland. "Magic Journeys" was a 3-D film that played in Tomorrowland for about one year. About a year after it closed, it was replaced by "Captain Eo" in 1986. Tragically, Cast Member Deborah Gail Stone was crushed to death in 1974 when she got too close to the rotating wall and stage wall.

She was the first Disneyland Cast Member killed while working an attraction.
10. Last, the time machine takes me to an attraction retired at both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom. Since we're already at Disneyland, we take this attraction for a ride, the "Skyway". These buckets are not for those with fear of heights. Which two "lands" did the Disneyland Skyway connect?

Answer: Fantasyland and Tomorrowland

This attraction was at the park from 1956-1994. When Disneyland had ticket books, up until 1982, the one-way trip for a "D-ticket" was listed as "Skyway to Tomorrowland" or "Skyway to Fantasyland". A round trip required two tickets. The Skyway was always a headache to the brass at Disneyland, from a man jumping off, to weather stranding riders for hours, to the daily occurrence of little or even big imps spitting at guests below.
