Garfield, the big orange cat with attitude, is the creation of Jim Davis. Garfield first appeared in comic strip form in June 1978. The name Garfield was taken from a christian name of Jim Davis' grandfather, James A Garfield Davis, whom it is rumored was a large man and could be cantankerous by nature.

"Daktari" was aired on the CBS channel between 1966 and 1969. The series starred Marshall Thompson as Dr Marsh Tracy and Cheryl Miller was his daughter Paula. Both had starred in the same roles in the 1965 film "Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion." The series can now be obtained on DVD.

He was in thirty-two episodes all told. In his earliest incarnations the usual pink lion was often orange in colour and called Snaggletooth.

Edward Lear (1812-1888), was a prolific writer of nonsense verse. "The Owl and the Pussycat" was included in the publication "Nonsense Songs, Stories, Botany and Alphabets" in 1871. As well as an author of poetry, Edward Lear was an accomplished artist, and it is said that he was engaged to give drawing lessons to Queen Victoria when she was a child.

The cartoon "Top Cat" ran for only thirty episodes on the ABC network channel between 27th September 1961 and 18th April 1962. The show was very popular in the United Kingdom although for this audience it changed it's name from "Top Cat" to "Boss Cat" because there was already a brand of cat food on sale in the U.K. named "Top Cat".

Despite this most children in the U.K. still referred to the cartoon as "Top Cat" and not "Boss Cat".

The book "The Incredible Journey" was written by British authoress Sheila Burnford. The cat was not the only animal to be given a different name in the 1993 remake of the original film, both dogs had a name change too. In the original 1963 film, "Luath" is a young labrador, whilst in the remake he becomes "Shadow" an old Golden Retriever. "Bodge" the young English Bull Terrier, becomes "Chance" a young American Bulldog.
