Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The flame-haired Natasha Romanov goes by many an alias in the Marvel Comics universe. Which of the following is NOT one of them?

Answer: Black Cat

Born Natalia Alianovna Romanova in Stalingrad (U.S.S.R.), circa 1928, she is best known for her involvement with The Avengers and her free-lance work with Nick Fury as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Trained as an intelligence operative, she was introduced into the Black Widow programme at the famed Red Room Academy where one of her trainers was James "Bucky" Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier. The supposed death of her husband, Alexi Shostakova, saw her drive herself harder at the Academy, where she eventually earned the title of Black Widow. Natasha has also been known to use the names Nat, Tsarina, Nancy Rushman, and Laura Matthers, amongst others.

Felicia Hardy is the Black Cat, a reformed burglar and a former girlfriend of Spiderman.

2. This character's first appearance was alongside Bugs Bunny in the 1946 Looney Tunes cartoon "Hair-Raising Hare". Appearing as a large, red/orange, hairy beast, who is this character whose name ironically means "a transparent and fragile material"?

Answer: Gossamer

The monster Gossamer was voiced by Mel Blanc from 1946 until 1980. In the original cartoon he tries to eat Bugs Bunny while he lives in the realm of a mad scientist. Interestingly, the character's name was not directly mentioned until 1980 in "Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½th Century" when Marvin the Martian calls him Gossamer. Chuck Jones so named the character "because he's the opposite looking of gossamer. He's a big, hairy thing".

3. The Little Red-Haired Girl is an unseen character in the comic strip "Peanuts". She is the unrequited love of Charlie Brown. Her name was eventually disclosed. What was it?

Answer: Heather

The Little Red-Haired Girl's name is Heather Wold. She is based on "Peanuts" creator Charles Schultz's co-worker, Donna Mae Wold, whom Schultz dated from 1947-1950. She was first referenced in the strip in 1961 and was seen only once in the strip, in 1998, dancing with Snoopy in silhouette.

The Little Red-Haired Girl was the protagonist in a 1967 animated TV special "You're in Love, Charlie Brown" but was never seen. She made her screen debut in 1977's "It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown" in a non-speaking role. She appeared in several more screenplays and in "The Peanuts Movie" (2015). This was the first time she actually spoke declaring her admiration for Charlie Brown but not her love. Sadly, Charlie Brown's love for the Little Red-Haired Girl remains unrequited.

Answer: Wheeler

"Captain Planet and the Planeteers" is a 1990s cartoon series that focuses on environmentalism. In the face of increasing environmental destruction, five youths of different ethnicity are chosen to protect the planet from further harm.

Wheeler is a teen from New York who grew up in a troubled family. He receives his Fire Ring after saving a man from an attempted robbery.

The other rings are the Earth, Wind, Water, and Heart rings. Kwame from Ghana has the Earth Ring, Linka from the Soviet Union has the Wind Ring, Gi from Thailand has the Water Ring, and Ma-Ti from Brazil has the Heart Ring. As a child living in a labour camp, she would constantly find trouble and would eventually be recruited into the resistance as part of the Shakaar cell. Answer: Merida

Merida is a 16-year-old princess of a clan known as Dunbroch. 9. "The Jetsons" was a three-season animated TV show that premiered in 1962. The show featured George Jetson and his family. What was George's red-haired wife's name?

Answer: Jane

The Jetsons are George, (red-headed) wife Jane, daughter Judy, son Elroy, and a speaking pet dog called Astro. In the first season Jane declared she is 33 but her husband is forty. This means she would have had Judy when she was 17. She is a good homemaker, though robot Rosie does most of the house work. She is fiercely protective of her family and is one of the few people seen standing up to George's bullying boss Mr. Spacely. Jane is obsessed with new gadgets and shopping. Her favourite store is "Mooning Dales". The website "Yahoo!" once listed her as one of the "Top 10 TV Moms from Six Decades of Television".

10. Actress Evangeline Lilly was cast as the flame-haired Tauriel, captain of the Mirkwood Elven Guard, in Peter Jackson's feature film adaptation of "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien. Having played Kate Austen in 117 episodes of the hit television series "Lost", what one stipulation did she allegedly name before taking on the role?

Answer: That her character NOT be involved in a love triangle

Lilly portrayed Tauriel in "The Desolation of Smaug" and "The Battle of the Five Armies", the second and third films of the trilogy. Tauriel was very much a creation of Peter Jackson and his writing partners, and was therefore a rather controversial figure. Some Tolkien purists were aghast, while others felt she fit neatly into Tolkien's world.

Before accepting the part, Lilly claims she told casting, "I will not do this film if you will not guarantee me one thing. You have to guarantee me there will be no love triangle". Can we blame her for trying after enduring four years of tension stuck between James Sawyer and Jack Shephard? Of course, she ends up in another love triangle of sorts between Legolas Greenleaf, Prince of the Woodland Realm, and Kili, the love-struck dwarf who wins her affection.
