Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Pai Gow mean?

Answer: Makes Nine

Pai Gow is a Chinese poker game played with either dominoes or cards. Although it is slow-moving, it can be a lot of fun. You are always hoping that the dealer gets nothing in their hand. "Pai Gow" literally means "Makes Nine" and comes from the original Chinese game played with dominoes.

The American version uses cards and standard poker hands, but you can find both versions at most casinos.
2. Name the two famous entertainers with their own gift shops in Caesar's Palace.

Answer: Celine Dion & Elton John

Caesar's Palace built their new concert venue, the Coliseum, for Celine Dion, but found they prefer the crowd that Sir Elton John attracts, and have therefore given him more concert dates and his own shop right near Celine's.
3. You can trade in chips from one casino on the strip at a different casino.

Answer: True

While you can't use chips from one casino at another casino's tables, casinos on the Vegas strip will gladly take chips from another casino and give you their own in exchange (or cash). Typically, casinos have daily runs to trade in each other's chips.
4. According to the sign on Las Vegas Boulevard, who has been "Entertainer of the Year" for many years?

Answer: Danny Gans

It is unclear who decided Danny was the Entertainer of the Year, but he has had the title for many years.
5. What is the best hand possible in Pai Gow Poker with the Fortune Bonus?

Answer: Seven Card Royal Flush

When playing with the fortune bonus (a side bet), all seven cards can be used regardless of how you split your two hands for the game against the dealer. A natural hand is always better than one with a Joker.
6. A Roulette Wheel with only a Single Green Zero has better odds than a Wheel with a single and a double.

Answer: True

By almost twice the odds!
7. In Texas Hold 'Em, what is the nickname for a starting hand with an Ace and a King?

Answer: Big Slick

Texas Hold'Em has been gaining in popularity since the Travel Channel has been airing the Celebrity Poker tour, and with the advent of Internet poker tournaments. It has its own language, which is fun to learn.
8. What is the "textbook" way to play the blackjack hand of A-A?

Answer: Split

ALWAYS split Aces and Eights. This is the general rule. For Aces it is especially true. Since tens and face cards are the most likely to come up, splitting aces gives you a good shot at two hands of 21. Two elevens are much better than a 12 (or 2).
9. You have an equal chance at hitting a jackpot in a slot machine at a casino as one in the airport.

Answer: False

The gambling commission allows for a range of payout schedules on slot machines. In casinos, the slots tend to be "looser" and therefore pay out more often. Slot machines in airports and in bars, restaurants nad other locations are "tighter" and pay out less frequently because those smaller operations cannot afford to pay big. Casinos want repeat customers, so they want people to hear lots of winners.
10. What famous casino hosts the World Series of Poker each year between 1970 and 2004?

Answer: The Horseshoe

Binion's Horseshoe Casino began the WSOP. In 2003, over 800 players paid the $10,000 entrance fee (the previous year's winner gets the fee waived) either from their pocket or from their winnings at a satellite tournament. Chris Moneymaker won the 2003 WSOP.
11. If you bet $10 on a single number on the roulette wheel and it hits, how much do you get paid?

Answer: $350

A single number pays 35 to 1. Studies have shown that roulette cannot be predicted, as there is absolutely no pattern to the way a wheel spins and stops. Every turn starts fresh. Anyone with a "system" is just hoping and praying.
12. It is legal to be topless at a hotel pool in Las Vegas.

Answer: True

Caesar's Palace has an adult's only pool which permits topless sunbathing. No kids and no cameras allowed! (And guests of the hotel are the only ones permitted to use it).
13. What is the only hotel in Vegas to be blown up and then rebuilt from the ground up with the same name?

Answer: The Aladdin

The Aladdin "rose from the ashes" a few years ago when they demolished the building and built the new Aladdin in its place. Caesar's has never been completely overhauled, though they continue to add on to the hotel. The Flamingo was gutted and refurbished, but the structure remains the same.
14. If you bet "the field" what game are you playing?

Answer: Craps

"The Field" is considered one of the worst bets on the Craps table. Craps is also the best game for the player, with the odds only 1.5% in favor of the house, if played correctly. Ask the dealers at the Craps table to tell you how to bet, and they will teach you everything you need to know!
15. Finish this quote: "What happens in Vegas, ________ ________ ___________."

Answer: stays in Vegas

And nothing will ever get me to talk... Have fun in Vegas, baby!
