Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Weirdly, the sign depicted, marking the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, actually appears in what adjacent town?

Answer: Paradise

Surprisingly, most of the Las Vegas Strip is not within Las Vegas proper, but on the line straddling the city of Las Vegas and the smaller town of Paradise, Nevada which, while part of the Greater Vegas Area, is still a separate town. The famous 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada' sign, crafted from neon and erected at the south end of the strip in the 1950s, is actually about four miles south of the Las Vegas city limits. Designer Betty Willis would later design other neon signs for a handful of early Vegas casinos.
2. The oldest building on The Strip, The Little Church of the West, was constructed in what decade?

Answer: The 1940s

The Little Church of the West was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places in the 1990s because of its long history in Las Vegas. While the development of casino culture burgeoned on The Strip, people could test their luck in love and marriage here instead, and the building has since become the host of many celebrity weddings including those between Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie, Zsa Zsa Gabor and her third husband (George Sanders), and Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford. All three of these ended in divorce. Originally built elsewhere on The Strip, it was moved south of the Mandalay Bay, making it one of the southernmost sites on Las Vegas Boulevard.
3. The pyramid depicted is part of what Las Vegas casino complex named after an Egyptian city?

Answer: Luxor

Themed around Ancient Egypt, the Luxor hotel is one of the southern hotels on The Strip sitting between the Mandalay Bay and the Excalibur. It is perhaps best known for its distinctive, modern glass pyramid which stretches upwards thirty storeys and is topped off with a chamber containing numerous curved mirrors to create the strongest beam of light in the world. Known as the Luxor Sky Beam, this light source can be seen from planes in the sky as far away as the Pacific Coast.

The casino is also known for hosting shows by the Blue Man Group and featuring a replica sphinx on the grounds.
4. The replica Statue of Liberty at New York-New York is smaller than the original in New York City.

Answer: True

There's quite a bit of interesting info about this one. Discounting the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York City, the entirety of the replica in Las Vegas, sitting in front of the New York-New York Hotel and Casino, is about the same size as the original at approximately one hundred fifty feet. New York-New York is known for sticking to its theme, particularly with its facade (which resembles the New York City skyline, its Big Apple Coaster, and its casino which, instead of having the regular four suits in its decks of cards, uses ones with spades, clubs, diamonds, and apples (because, y'know, the Big Apple).
5. The Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino does not feature a scale model of which of these attractions?

Answer: Notre Dame Cathedral

Themed around the French capital, this hotel and casino features many large, scale replicas of famous landmarks, the most notable being the two-thirds-scale Eiffel Tower standing atop the casino, large enough to extend onto the gaming floor through the roof of the building. Paris is located adjacent to Bally's Las Vegas, formerly the MGM Grand, south of Flamingo Road. Opening in 1999, it became one of Caesar Entertainment's largest casino of eight it operated on the Strip.
6. The fountains depicted are found in front of which casino on the Vegas Strip?

Answer: The Bellagio

Inspired by Northern Italy, the Bellagio is perhaps known for its immense fountains found in a lake at the front of the property. Choreographed for performances at night, the fountains have been featured in countless Vegas-set movies including "Ocean's Eleven" and "Ocean's 13". Until 2010, it was the largest assemblage of fountains in the world.

The Bellagio is also home to a botanical gardens, an American fine art gallery, and an unparalleled high limit poker room.
7. The volcano depicted was part of The Mirage, a resort using which theme?

Answer: Polynesia

Though the name is likely to evoke a desert setting, The Mirage was definitely more jungle-themed than anything, basing much of its aesthetic on lush, tropical ecosystems. The hotel was once the home of Siegfried and Roy and features a rainforest atrium containing non-native plants. Oh yeah, and the giant, erupting volcano out front? That's part of the theme too. Like the Bellagio's fountains, the feature was often used in choreographed numbers and, after years of refurbishment, was upgraded to erupt with the smell of pina coladas.

The Mirage was one of the largest hotels in the world until its closure (under that name) in 2024.
8. Ready for a gondola ride? You can take a trip under the replica Rialto Bridge at what Las Vegas hotel and casino, at one point the largest casino in the world?

Answer: The Venetian

The Venetian, standing across the road from the Mirage, is definitely a force to be reckoned with on the Strip in terms of pure entertainment, Aside from having one of the largest hotels and gambling floors anywhere on the globe (until it was surpassed by The Venetian in Macau in 2007), it also contains four theatres, a Guggenheim Art Gallery, several replica sites (including a faux Piazza San Marco and another version of Doge's Palace) and a winding canal system on which you can ride gondolas. The whole thing cost $1.5 billion to construct. Spare no expense, eh?
9. At the north end of the Strip, the Stratosphere features which of the following at its top?

Answer: A thrill ride

The second-tallest observation tower in the Americas (after the CN Tower) when it was built, the Stratosphere was placed at the north end of the Strip, north of Sahara Avenue, and while the whole Strip is considered the 'Las Vegas Strip', the tower is one of the only properties actually within the city limits since all of the rest are technically in Paradise, Nevada.

At the top are several extreme rides including a pneumatic tower, a controlled bungee pad, and a rollercoaster track that emulates a train plunging off the side of the building. Acrophobics beware!
10. Known for its neon lights and its LED canopy, what famous street is found north of the Las Vegas Strip?

Answer: Fremont Street

Fremont Street, found north of the Stratosphere, is another part of the Strip which, unlike the rest of the attractions, is actually in Vegas, and it kind of epitomizes the bright lights expectation that tourists have going to Vegas because of its main thoroughfare, lined with neon signs dating back decades.

Besides having several smaller casinos of its own to boast, the street is also somewhat known for shopping. It's also known for its LED ceiling which changes colours in light shows throughout the night.
