Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why did the Intercontinental Title match between Jeff Jarrett and Chyna almost not take place?

Answer: Jeff's contract had expired the day before the bout was scheduled.

Jarrett's contract had expired one day before the Intercontinental Title match with Chyna. The bout was a part of the "No Mercy" pay per view. Since Jeff was no longer under contract, he was not obligated to wrestle Chyna for his Intercontinental Title. Jarrett and Vince McMahon came to an agreement and the bout went on as scheduled.

This was Jeff's sixth reign as Intercontinental Champion.
2. What did Greg Valentine do after he lost the Intercontinental Title back to Tito Santana?

Answer: Greg destroyed the Intercontinental Title.

After months of chasing Valentine for the Intercontinental Title, Tito secured a match inside a steel cage. The match was held on July 6, 1985 in my hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. Jimmy Hart was at ringside, but was unable to assist Valentine. Tito won the bout and the championship back to begin his second reign.

In true Valentine fashion, him being a sore loser he destroyed the Intercontinental Title. Tito was a champion without a championship. Tito was later presented with a new Intercontinental Title which he defended until February of 1986.
3. Who is the brother of wrestler Goldust?

Answer: Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes is the younger brother of Dustin Runnels. Dustin began using the Goldust persona in the WWF in 1995. Cody would join the WWE in 2007. Cody would win his first Intercontinental Championship on August 9, 2011 from Ezekiel Jackson. Cody held the belt until a loss to The Big Show at "Wrestlemania 28". Cody Rhodes is a two time WWE Intercontinental Champion.
4. Who is the only member of the group Degeneration X not to hold the Intercontinental Championship?

Answer: X-Pac

Sean Altman better known as X-Pac was the only member of this group of wrestlers not to hold the Intercontinental Championship. Every other member held the belt at least on one occasion. X-Pac did hold the WWF European and World Tag Team Titles. Sean and Chyna were the best part about Degeneration X for me. They were always doing something innovative in the ring.
5. What disability did Kerry Von Erich not let himself stop wrestling because of?

Answer: amputated foot

Kerry was involved in a life threatening motorcycle accident on June 4, 1986. He would have to get his right foot amputated because it could not be saved. Kerry was still able to perform and wrestle at his usual level of excellence despite having a prosthetic foot. Kerry joined the WWF in 1990 under the name "The Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich.

He would defeat Curt Henning for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam on August 27, 1990. Kerry was also a one time NWA World Heavyweight Champion prior to entering the then WWF.
6. Who did Owen Hart defeat for his first Intercontinental Championship?

Answer: The Rock

Owen ended the Rock's first run as Intercontinental Champion. The Rock was still wrestling under the name Rocky Maivia. He had defeated Hunter Hearst Hensley on October 21, 1996. Owen challenged Rocky on the February 13, 1997 edition of "Raw is War" and won the Intercontinental Title. This ended the seventy day reign as Intercontinental Champion for the Rock.
7. What annual event did The British Bulldog defeat Bret Hart at for the Intercontinental Title?

Answer: SummerSlam

This was one thrilling bout as both men were in their prime and at the height of their popularity. The bout took place in London, England at SummerSlam. Smith and Hart both wrestled an exciting and well balanced match. Both men in my opinion, complimented each other's abilities in this bout.

It was a very even match with Bret and Davey's expertise and charisma. Davey reversed Bret's sunset flip to become the new Intercontinental Champion. After the bout, Hart and Smith shook hands and embraced.
8. Where was the tournament held to crown the first Intercontinental Champion?

Answer: Brazil

Pat Patterson was named the first Intercontinental Champion after he won a tournament held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. According to the history books, Patterson defeated Johnny Rodz in the tournament final.Pat held the Intercontinental Title for two hundred and thirty three days before losing it to Ken Patera. To this day, I don't understand why a real tournament was not held for this prestigious title.

At the time of the creation of the Intercontinental Title, Pat Patterson was the reigning WWF North American Heavyweight Champion.
9. Who is the father of Curtis Axel?

Answer: Curt Hennig

Joseph Henning is a third generation wrestling superstar. His grandfather, Larry "The Axe" Henning was a four time co-holder of the AWA World Tag Team Championship. Curtis' dad, "Mr Perfect" Curt Hennig is a former AWA World and Tag Team Champion. Both Curtis and Curt have held the Intercontinental Championship. Curt held the title twice for a total of four hundred and six days. Joseph combined the names of his paternal grandfather and father to get his in ring name.
10. Who was Greg Valentine's opponent at the first Wrestlemania?

Answer: Junkyard Dog

Greg Valentine was feuding with the Junkyard Dog while Tito Santana recovered from knee surgery. Valentine and JYD wrestled for the Intercontinental Title at the inaugural "Wrestlemania". JYD won the match by count out. At first it appeared as if Greg was the victor, but he had his legs on the ropes for leverage. Tito came to ringside and made the referee aware of what Valentine had done.

The bout was restarted and the angry Valentine left the ring and was counted out. Valentine retained the belt, but JYD won the match.
