1. Director John Sturges' 1960 film "The Magnificent Seven" was adapted from which Asian film?

Answer: Shichinin No Samurai (1954)

"Shichinin No Samurai" was considered Akira Kurosawa's finest film achievement. In 1990, he received an honorary Academy Award for his work on "Shichinin No Samurai" and other movies.

The translation for "Shichinin No Samurai" is the seven samurai.
2. In "The Magnificent Seven," which character did Yul Brynner portray?

Answer: Chris Adams

Chris Adams was the 'leader' of the seven. Throughout the filming Brynner believed that Steve McQueen was trying to upstage him. Watch when Chris is delivering a line with Vin in the scene, there is always movement from McQueen as Vin to draw attention to himself.

A take off of "The Magnificent Seven," the 1986 movie "The Three Amigos" starred Chevy Chase, Martin Short and Steve Martin. Elmer Bernstein wrote the music for both movies. The 1999 Tim Allen film, "Galaxy Quest" followed the same basic storyline.

Twenty-seven lines of dialog were said between the two talented actors. Coburn had eleven lines and Vaughn had sixteen.

Steve McQueen wanted to do the film, but was contractually obligated to the television series "Wanted, Dead or Alive." McQueen went to great lengths to be able to appear in "The Magnificent Seven," he crashed his car in order to do this film! While recuperating from the car crash, he filmed "The Magnificent Seven."
7. When Chico attempted to join the 'Seven' early in the film, how many times did Chris clap his hands before Chico left?

Answer: Two

The hand clapping was supposed to prove that Chico was slow on the draw. He was supposed to draw his gun before Chris clapped...he couldn't do it.

In 1961, Elmer Bernstein won the Academy Award for Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture for "The Magnificent Seven."

"The Magnificent Seven" was not nominated. The winner was "West Side Story."

The 1961 nominees were: "Fanny," "The Guns of Navarone," "The Hustler" and "Judgment at Nuremberg." It was a pretty good year at the movies.
10. On August 30, 2003, Charles Bronson passed away. What was listed as the official cause of death?

Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Steve McQueen appeared in another John Sturges film, "The Great Escape" (1963), Elmer Bernstein also composed the musical score.

Yul Brynner died on October 10, 1985 from lung cancer, Steve McQueen died on November 7, 1980 from lung cancer, James Coburn died on November 18, 2002 from a heart attack, Horst Bucholz died on March 30, 2003 from complicated brought on by pneumonia, and Brad Dexter died on December 12, 2002 from complications brougt on by emphysema.

Actor Eli Wallach was last seen in the 2006 release of "The Holiday," and actor Robert Vaughn seen in the television series "Hu$tle". Vaughn appeared in six episodes in 2007; he portrayed the character of Albert Stroller.
