Scott Hall and Kevin Nash began appearing together as a duo known as the Outsiders during episodes of WCW's "Monday Night Nitro" in June of 1996. At the World Championship Wrestling's 1996 "The Great American Bash" event, the Outsiders and an unknown mystery partner challenged any three WCW wrestlers to a tag team match.

This tag team match would be the main event match at the WCW's 1996 "Bash at the Beach" event.

In the main event tag team match of the WCW's 1996 "Bash at the Beach" event, Hulk Hogan came to the ring towards the end of the match. Hogan surprisingly attacked his friend Randy Savage in the ring. Hogan then revealed himself to be the mystery partner of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. The three wrestlers officially form the nWo during a scathing promo by Hogan after the match.

Before the WCW's 1996 "Fall Brawl" event, the nWo tried to convince the WCW roster that Sting had joined their group. At the WCW's 1996 "Fall Brawl" event, a WarGames match was competed between nWo wrestlers and the top stars from the roster of World Championship Wrestling. Sting was scheduled to compete as part of the WCW despite the claims that he had joined the nWo.

During this WarGames match, the nWo brought out an imposter wrestler dressed up as Sting. The authentic Sting came out next and abandoned his World Championship Wrestling teammates for doubting his loyalty. The next night on WCW's "Monday Night Nitro", the authentic Sting did an intense promo and left the arena without an allegiance to the nWo or WCW. At the end of the main event match at the WCW's 1997 "Uncensored" event, Sting returned to begin a feud with the nWo.

Answer: "Rowdy" Roddy Piper

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper confronted nWo leader "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan at the 1996 WCW "Halloween Havoc" event. Piper wanted a match with Hogan. Piper began stalking WCW's Executive Vice President Eric Bischoff to sign a match between Hogan and Piper.

On the November 18, 1996 episode of WCW's "Monday Night Nitro", Piper confronted Bischoff in the ring about signing a contract for a Hogan-Piper match. Piper began badgering Bischoff until the nWo attacked Piper in the ring. Hogan came to the ring and announced that Bischoff was indeed a member of the nWo.

Answer: Dennis Rodman

On March 10, 1997 episode of WCW's "Monday Night Nitro", the nWo announced that Dennis Rodman was the newest member of the group. At the WCW's 1997 "Uncensored" event, Dennis Rodman accompanied the nWo to the ring for their main event match.

Answer: Curt Hennig

Curt Hennig replaced Arn Anderson in the Four Horsemen a month before the WCW's 1997 "Fall Brawl" event. Hennig was a member of the Four Horsemen team competing in the WarGames match at the WCW's 1997 "Fall Brawl" event.

Because of an apparent shoulder injury, Curt Hennig was the last member of the Four Horsemen team to enter the WarGames match. Hennig revealed he was faking the shoulder injury and pulled some handcuffs out of his cast. Hennig then revealed that he was a member of the nWo and gave the handcuffs to his new teammates. The nWo handcuffed the members of the Four Horsemen and then decimated Ric Flair.

In early 1998, there was some animosity between nWo leaders Kevin Nash, Randy Savage and "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan over the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. On the May 4, 1998 episode of WCW's "Monday Night Nitro", Kevin Nash, Konnan and Randy Savage formed the nWo Wolfpac. Eventually Curt Hennig, Miss Elizabeth, Rick Rude, Lex Luger, Sting and Dusty Rhodes joined the nWo Wolfpac.

"Hollywood" Hulk Hogan would organize the remaining members of the nWo to form the nWo Hollywood faction to feud with the nWo Wolfpac faction.

Bill Goldberg entered WCW's 1998 "Starcade" event as WCW Heavyweight Champion riding a 173 match winning streak. Goldberg defended his championship against Kevin Nash at this event in a no-disqualification match. After interference from Disco Inferno and Bam Bam Bigelow, Scott Hall snuck up from behind and shocked Goldberg with a stun gun. Kevin Nash then won the match, captured the WCW Heavyweight Championship and ended Goldberg's 173 match winning streak.

Answer: The Fingerpoke of Doom match

Kevin Nash was supposed to defend his WCW Heavyweight Championship against Bill Goldberg on the January 4, 1999 episode of WCW's "Monday Night Nitro". After Goldberg was "arrested" earlier in the show, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan came out of retirement to challenge Nash for the title. Several members of the two nWo factions were ringside for the match.

Hogan poked Nash in the chest with his finger. Nash fell down and Hogan scored the pin to win the WCW Heavyweight Championship. This match was dubbed "The Fingerpoke of Doom" match. After the match, the nWo reunited to attack a returning Bill Goldberg.

Answer: The Rock and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

At the WWE's 2002 "Wrestlemania 18" event, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin defeated nWo member Scott Hall via pinfall. Kevin Nash accompanied his nWo teammate for this match before he was removed from the match by WWE officials.

Later that night, The Rock defeated nWo member "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan in an "Icon versus Icon" match. After Hogan's defeat in this match, he was removed from the nWo.
