Cody Rhodes beat Damien Sandow in a grudge match. The rivalry began at the "Money In The Bank" pay-per-view. Cody Rhodes was inches away from reaching up and grabbing the World Heavyweight Championship briefcase, when his tag team partner Damien Sandow pushed him off the ladder and grabbed the briefcase himself. This set up a match at Summerslam which Cody Rhodes won.

Christian had his "one more match" against Alberto Del Rio, but ultimately came up short against the reigning World Heavyweight Champion. The match looked to have gone Christian's way after he speared Alberto Del Rio, but this aggravated an injury to Christian's arm.

He spent too long to try and go for the cover and Alberto Del Rio took advantage and put him in his signature submission hold "The Cross Arm-Breaker" to make Christian tap out, thus retaining the World Heavyweight Championship.

Natalya used the Sharpshooter, made famous by her uncle Bret Hart to defeat Brie Bella, one half of "The Bella Twins". 'The Funkadactyls' were in Natalya's corner and Eva Marie and Nikki Bella were in Brie's corner for the match.

The rivalry started after Paul Heyman cost CM Punk the WWE Championship Money In The Bank Ladder Match at the 'Money In The Bank' pay-per-view. The following night on Raw Paul Heyman and CM Punk exchanged words before Paul Heyman's client Brock Lesnar came out and F5'd CM Punk. Brock Lesnar won the match at Summerslam after delivering an F5 to CM Punk on a Steel Chair.

At the Money In The Bank pay-per-view AJ Lee beat Kaitlyn to retain her title. AJ Lee later cost her boyfriend Dolph Ziggler his match against Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler dumped her the next night on Raw. The Miz - the official host of Summerslam - announced this match on Smackdown.

Daniel Bryan won to become the WWE Champion for the first time in his career, after defeating John Cena with a running knee to the face. John Cena was defending his title against doctor's orders, after it was reported he suffered from a torn tricep.

Randy Orton walked down to the ring and held up his Money In The Bank briefcase, shortly after Daniel Bryan was celebrating with Triple H. He turned around, only for Triple H to "do what was best for business" and 'Pedigree' Daniel Bryan leaving him lying motionless in the ring. Randy Orton cashed in his briefcase and became the new WWE Champion, bringing a conclusion to the "Biggest Party of the Summer" for 2013.
