This represents the first appearance of Zorro on the screen and was based on the short story "The Curse of Capistrano"(1919) by Johnston McCulley. As was common with other silent movies, inter-titles (cards with brief pieces of text) are included. In the DC Comics universe, Bruce Wayne watched a version of "The Mark of Zorro" shortly before his parents were killed during a robbery.

When Batman/Bruce Wayne was created in 1939, this was the only version of the motion picture yet produced. Douglas Fairbanks (1883-1939) was a major motion picture star of the silent film era, with his other credits including "The Three Musketeers" (1921), "Robin Hood" (1922), and "The Thief of Baghdad" (1924).
2. Z--The Masked Musical (1998 musical CD)

Debbie Gibson co-starred as Carlotta along with Ruben Gomez as the title character in "Z--The Masked Musical". Staged productions of the musical occurred in 2000 and 2013. The musical includes the songs "Tears of Sorrow" and "We Must Do What We Do". Ruben Gomez (born 1975) is a singer-songwriter who was a former member of the boy band Menudo.
3. The New Adventures of Zorro (1997 animated television series)

6. The New Zorro (1990-1993 television series)

"The New Zorro" was one of several names by which this series was known, including simply "Zorro". Eighty eight episodes were produced over four seasons and it was filmed in Spain. There are some differences between this series and the traditional version of Zorro including his horse being called Toronado rather than Tornado. Duncan Regehr (born 1952) is an actor who has also appeared in the television series "Wizards and Warriors" (1983) and the motion picture "The Monster Squad" (1987).
7. Zorro's Fighting Legion (1939 motion picture serial)

"Zorro's Fighting Legion" was a twelve part serial released by Republic Films. Each episode of the serial included at least one character who was killed just before he or she could reveal the secret identity of the villain, Don Del Oro. The serial was one of several featuring Zorro released by Republic Films in the 1930s and 1940s. Reed Hadley (1911-1974) was an actor who appeared on television, on the radio, and in the movies, including the radio series "Frontier Town" and the television series "Rocket Squad".
8. The Mark of Zorro (2011 audio dramatization)

This audio adaptation of "The Curse of Capistrano" was produced to sound like a vintage radio drama. Actors Armin Shimmerman and Mishach Taylor, among others, also voiced characters in this generally well-received adaptation. 9. Zorro (1957-1959 television series)

Plot threads would extend through several episodes giving the television series a movie serial-like feel. Though the series was popular, it was cancelled because of a disputer over who owned the rights to Zorro. Guy Williams (1924-1989) was an actor who was also well known for portraying the Robinson family father on the television series "Lost in Space" (1965-1968).
10. Zorro, The Gay Blade (1981 motion picture)

George Hamilton plays two roles in "Zorro, the Gay Blade"--Zorro/Don Diego and his homosexual twin brother Ramon, who fills in temporarily for the injured Zorro. Though not particularly successful financially, George Hamilton received generally positive reviews for his performance. George Hamilton (born 1939) is an actor who has also appeared in such as "Love at First Bite" (1979) and "Doc Hollywood" (1991).
