Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many people are on a Quidditch team?

Answer: Seven

There are seven players on a Quidditch team. Each person has an important role to play in the game. The positions are: Chaser, Seeker, Beater and Keeper. There are three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper and one Seeker.
2. A Chaser is someone who chases the players from the opposite team, trying to push them off their brooms.

Answer: False

The Chasers' aim is to get the Quaffle and pass it to their fellow Chasers. There are three rings at each end of the pitch and the Chasers have to try score by sending the Quaffle through one of them.
3. What does a keeper do?

Answer: Stops the Quaffle going into the goals

The Keeper is like a goalie in a football match. He guards the goal posts and stops the opposite team scoring. The Keeper has a big role to play. Oliver Wood was the Keeper for Gryffindor until "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". After he graduated, he was replaced by Ron Weasley. Ron is a very nervous person.

He often misses goals from nervousness. If he concentrates really hard though, he's very good.
4. How do you end a game of Quidditch?

Answer: You catch the Golden Snitch

The Seeker's job is to catch the Golden Snitch. If he/she catches it they score points and end the game. If you catch the Snitch your team doesn't always win. If your team is too many points behind when you catch the Snitch, the game will end, but the other team will still have more points. An example of this happening was the Quidditch World Cup in 1994.

The match was Bulgaria versus Ireland. Krum, the seeker for Ireland, caught the Snitch but Ireland won.
5. What is a bludger?

Answer: A ball that knocks someone off their broom

A Bludger is black and made of iron. There are two Bludgers in every game. Bludgers are bewitched to fly around, and then the Beaters try to aim them at the opposition. In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" Bobby the house-elf tries to hurt Harry so he'll go home. Dobby didn't want Harry to be attacked by the Basilisk, so Dobby bewitched a Bludger to fly at Harry and try to hit him.

It ended up hitting his arm and breaking it. When Gilderoy Lockhart tried to mend it, he made all the bones disappear.
6. What color is a Quaffle?

Answer: Red

A Quaffle is a ball that Chasers use to score points with. It is red and leather-covered. It is enchanted. The three Chasers on each team pass it to each other and score points in the goals.
7. How many points does your team get if you catch the Golden Snitch?

Answer: 150

Th Golden Snitch is a tiny golden ball that has wings. It is the size of a walnut. The Seeker has to catch it to end the game. The Snitch is very hard to catch because it's so fast. Seekers are usually light, fast and small. Snitches have flesh memories, and each one is able to recall the first person who touches it. Bowman Wright from Godric's Hollow was the first person to create the Snitch.

When Snitch makers make Snitches they have to wear protective gloves to make sure not to touch them.
8. What player uses a bat to hit bludgers at the opposite team?

Answer: Beater

Beaters are players who have bats and fly around trying to hit Bludgers at members from the opposite team. Bludgers are heavy, and can do a lot of damage if they hit a player, but the main aim is to knock the player off their broomstick, not to injure them.
9. The length of a Quidditch match is two hours.

Answer: False

There is no time limit to a Quidditch match. The game ends when the Seeker catches the Snitch. This means the match could go on for a very long time. Matches have known to go on for months before Seekers catch the Snitch.
10. How many points do you get if you hit the Quaffle into the goals?

Answer: Ten

There are three goalposts each side of a Quidditch pitch, making six in total. The Chasers try to throw the Quaffle through the hoop, which is in the air, while getting past the Keeper. The main point of the game is to catch the Snitch but it's always good to be up high in points, just in case the other team catches the Snitch.
