Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Quidditch, what is the time limit for each game?

Answer: There is no time limit

There is no time limit in Quidditch. The game is played until the seeker catches the Golden Snitch. The longest game in history was three months.
2. In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", Harry goes to see the Quidditch World Cup (Ireland vs Bulgaria) with Ron and his family. What are the names of the seekers on those teams?

Answer: Viktor Krum and Aidan Lynch

In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", Ireland defeat Bulgaria in the Quidditch World Cup by 10 points. Krum catches the Snitch, but Ireland is 160 points up, so even after catching the Snitch, Bulgaria loses the World Cup.
3. Are you allowed to have a wand with you on the Quidditch pitch?

Answer: Yes, as long as you don't use it against another player

Wands are allowed on the field. As shown in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", Harry uses his wand to defend himself against the dementors, who are not actually dementors but Marcus Flint, Draco Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle trying to scare Harry.
4. In his school years, Harry owns two brooms. Which two does he own?

Answer: Nimbus 2000 and Firebolt

Harry owns the Nimbus 2000 and the Firebolt. He was given the Nimbus from Professor McGonagall in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". It was destroyed by the Whomping Willow in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", and he was sent a Firebolt anonymously for Christmas. We later find out that the Firebolt was from Sirius Black, Harry's godfather.
5. In his sixth year Harry gets made Quidditch Team Captain. Who was NOT on his team in the sixth year?

Answer: Angelina Johnson

Angelina joined in her second year, 1990-91, when she played as Chaser. She got Captain in 1995-96, her last year. Harry started in 1991-92, which was his first year, which means in his sixth year, 1996-97, Angelina would have been in her eight year, but you only go to school for seven.
6. Which of these rules is NOT true for Quidditch?

Answer: The chaser hits the bludger with a giant bat

The job of hitting the bludgers is for the beaters. Fred and George Weasley are the beaters for most of the series, and are replaced by Andrew Kirke and Jack Sloper when they finish school. Andrew and Jack are horrible beaters though, and they do not make the team when Harry is Captain.
7. What is the name, color and size of the most important ball in the game?

Answer: The Golden Snitch, gold, size of a golf ball

The Golden Snitch is of course, GOLD. It is also the size of a golf ball, and very hard to catch, as we learn in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" when Oliver tells Harry that they won't be practicing with the Snitch because it is too dark. They instead practice with golf balls because they are a similar size.
8. How many ways are there to commit Quidditch fouls, and in what year did all of these happen in the World Cup?

Answer: 700, 1473

There are 700 ways to commit a Quidditch foul, all of which happened in the 1473 World Cup Match. Some of these fouls include: blagging - grabbing onto another player's broom; blatching- flying to collide with another player; and cobbing- excessive use of elbows.
9. How many goal-hoops are there on a field?

Answer: Six

On a single Quidditch field there are six hoops, three at each end. The hoops are worth 10 points for each goal, the only way to get more points is to catch the Snitch.
10. The Golden Snitch is the most important ball in Quidditch as it is worth the most points. What was the original Snitch and who designed the new one?

Answer: A small bird, Bowman Wright

The first Snitch was a tiny bird that was very small, but changes to the rules made it illegal to use the actual bird. The current enchanted, winged ball version of the Snitch was invented by Bowman Wright of Godric's Hollow. If the Seeker catches the Golden Snitch, his or her team earns 150 points and usually wins the match.
