In 1.07 "Moon Spell", Emma plans a surprise birthday party for her father. When asked if he might come home before they are ready, Emma says, "It's squash night." When Mr. Gilbert does arrive, he has a squash racquet under his arm.

In 1.22 "Fish Out of Water", Dr. Bennett introduces Neil Gilbert as a real estate developer.

In 1.18 "Bad Moon Rising", Rikki is feeling hot and she opens the fridge to find something cold to drink or some ice cream, and she finds the fridge full of tofu.

Answer: Slumber party

In 1.04 "Party Girls", Emma seriously thinks about cancelling her annual slumber party, due to the risk of mermaid exposure. Rikki is interested in going, to which Emma replies, "It isn't really your scene." Rikki assumes it consists of boys...dancing...boys, and Emma says, "It isn't really that type of party." Then Lewis guesses that it's a sleepover.

He sprays Emma and Rikki with a mix of 32% water. Emma quickly dries her leg, but Rikki was distracted. "So a sleepover! That is so neat-o. I wish I hadn't painted my nails - we could have painted them together. And we could have had a pillow fight, and played each other..." (poof!) Rikki suddenly changed into a mermaid.

As it turns out, the only mermaid accident at the party was Cleo.

Answer: Lobster Thermidor

In 2.12 "Monster", Emma's mother was preparing lobster thermidor for their wedding anniversary. Emma replied excitedly, "It's my favourite." And looking in the fridge, she added, "Is it here?" But her mum shut the fridge and said, "And it's your father's favourite too."

In 1.07 "Moon Spell", Emma had Elliot scheduled to play his oboe from 9:00 to 9:10pm. Emma was to be reading her speech between 9:10 and 9:40.

It was around 9:00 when Lewis pulled a moonstruck Emma out of the canal and 9:08 by the time Rikki had her dried off, but being moon struck, Emma stayed in mermaid form. Cleo had a copy of the party schedule and knew they had only two minutes before Emma was expected to deliver her speech.

During that time, they hid Emma in the outdoor spa with the bubbles running to try to hide her mermaid tail. Left alone for a minute, Emma started smooching Byron. Elliot stepped outside holding his oboe and saw them.

Answer: Emma

In 1.11 "Sink or Swim", Byron called Emma a "heavy training dragon". Emma said to Cleo and Rikki that, "I may seem tough, but I'm easily hurt." Rikki then took it upon herself to speak with Byron, and told him that "Emma seems tough, but she's easily hurt." And then Byron repeated it back to Emma.

The scene with Rikki and Byron was pretty good. When Rikki said, "Don't you realize she cares about you?" Rikki caught herself, realising that she had said too much, and tried to cover it up.

Answer: Earrings

In 1.22 "Fish Out of Water", Zane bought Rikki a very nice formal red dress to wear to his father's business luncheon.

A charming side note here: When Lewis told Cleo that he had seen Zane giving Rikki a dress, Cleo said to Lewis, "Can you ever imagine buying someone a dress?" You can see the hint in Cleo's eyes, that she's wondering if Lewis would buy her a dress. But he deflated the moment by responding, "Not in this lifetime."

In 2.08 "Wrong Side of the Tracks", Zane gave Rikki an MP3 player. He had engraved it, "Shut up and take the gift."

And in 3.12 "Crime and Punishment", he gave Rikki a cell phone, which she needed since her phone got smashed earlier in the episode.

In 3.12 "Crime and Punishment", when Cleo and Isabella were making the mermaid figurine for Rikki's birthday out of hardened water at the beginning, Isabella suggested that maybe they should just get her earrings. Also, in 1.04 "Party Girls", when Emma showed Gracie's locket which she had found, Rikki joked that there might be some matching earrings.

Answer: Byron

In 1.11 "Sink or Swim", Emma had taken on coaching Byron in competitive swimming. Cleo and Rikki had warned Emma not to take risks being near the pool, but she gave in and started coaching Byron anyway.

Emma tried explaining to Cleo and Rikki why she was coaching Byron, and Rikki could tell that Emma was taking some pity on Byron's feelings, so she playfully mocked aloud what she knew was in Emma's heart. When Emma still tried to deny it, Rikki said, "Why don't you just admit it - you like him. You want to spend time with him."

When Emma did kiss Byron in this episode, it was the first "non-moon-struck" smooch in the show. Later, Cleo pushed Emma into the cafe wanting to know all the details.

Answer: There's chemistry

Ah yes, sweet Rikki who always seems to be able to see the heart. Rikki loves to tease the others about romance, and she is usually the first to counsel her friends, even the guys, on their relationships.

It does seem surprising that it would be Rikki. There is a key scene in 1.09 "Dangerous Waters", where Rikki had been unsympathetic to Cleo after her fish had died. Rikki later apologized, and this little conversation should be remembered:

Cleo: That's okay. I know you're not good with the whole empathy thing.
Rikki: Yeah, well, it's... you think?
Cleo: Oh yeah.
Rikki: You mean I'm self-centred?
Cleo: No, it's just that other people's feelings aren't really on your radar. But I'm not complaining. Sometimes I think I'm too worried about other people's feelings.
Rikki: Yeah, maybe.
Cleo: But I know you mean well, Rikki. That's the main thing.

Cleo pretty much hit it on the head. And while Rikki is never known for "empathy" as such, she is clearly gifted at seeing what other people are feeling. And she will always knife to the truth.

So here we are in 2.14 "Cleo vs Charlotte". There's a very charming scene early in the episode where Rikki pressed Cleo to admit that she missed Lewis. That was the truth, and Rikki knew that Cleo was wrong to push Lewis away. And she finally got Cleo to admit it.

And here, Rikki has had her eye on Ash and Emma. So as Emma is being irritated by Ash, Rikki describes it as "chemistry."

Rikki: You want to know what I think?
Emma: Not particularly.
Rikki: I think there's chemistry.
Emma: Excuse me? You think wrong. I'm definitely not attracted to him.
Rikki: I didn't say there was attraction, [waving her finger] I said there was "chemistry".

Emma throws a small pillow at Rikki, because... she got her.
