Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the names of Mrs Arabella Figg's cats (mentioned in "The Philosopher's Stone")?

Answer: Mr Tibbles, Mr Paws, Snowy, Tufty

It was mentioned in "The Philosopher's Stone" that Harry would be sent to Mrs Figg's home on Dudley's birthday every year while the Dursley took Dudley and a friend out to adventure parks, hamburger restaurants and the movies. Mrs Figg's house smelled of cabbage and Mrs Figg would make Harry look at photographs of all the cats she ever owned. Mrs Figg put Mr Tibbles on watch duty in "The Order of the Phoenix" when Mundungus Fletcher, who was supposed to be tailing Harry, sneaked off to see to his petty business. All four cats are part-kneazle.
2. What is the colour of Hedwig's (Harry's snowy owl) eyes?

Answer: amber

Hedwig is a beautiful, proud and intelligent owl who seems fully capable of understanding human speech. For instance, she appeared to be offended in "The Goblet of Fire" when Harry said to her in an offhanded and somewhat thoughtless way: "I can't use you. I have to use one of these", meanwhile not looking at her at all. Snowy owls are a breed that exists in real life.

They are born dark, but slowly become white as they enter adulthood.
3. This adorable teeny owl was given to Ron in "The Prisoner of Azkaban" by Harry's godfather. What is his name?

Answer: Pigwidgeon

Pigwidgeon is a hyperactive, consistently excited, tiny owl who has gained Hedwig's disapproval and Crookshanks' inclination to grab him. On first sight, his presence induced Hedwig to click her beak at him and Crookshanks' eyes to trail him around the train compartment. Apart from Hedwig and Crookshanks, Pigwidgeon also managed to annoy Hermes (Percy's owl) and the taxi driver who drove the Weasleys and Harry to King's Cross station in "The Goblet of Fire".

This adorable owl also tends to show his affection in an overly forceful fashion. For instance, he nibbled Ron's finger painfully as a way of greeting during their first meeting. Pigwidgeon was entrusted with a few responsibilities in the series: starting from delivering Sirius' letter and Pigwidgeon himself to Harry and his friends on the Hogwarts Express near the end of "The Prisoner of Azkaban".

In "The Globlet of Fire", Pigwidgeon was given the task of delivering Harry's letter to Sirius telling the latter that Harry had passed the First Task of the Triwizard Tournament.
4. What is the name of Neville's toad?

Answer: Trevor

Trevor was a present from Neville's Great Uncle Algie, who tried to force some magic into young Neville by putting him into life-threatening situations such as dangling the boy off a pier. Trevor is forever trying to get away from Neville which would always put Neville in a frenzy.

In "The Philosopher's Stone", Neville was introduced to readers as a careless boy who is always losing his toad and being very unhappy about it. ("Gran, I've lost my toad again." - Neville to his grandmother on platform nine and three-quarters in "The Philosopher's Stone.) Luckily, Trevor seems to be able to come back to his owner all those troubled times.
5. One pet protectively threw itself on top of Sirius' chest in "The Prisoner of Azkaban", when Harry was about to aim a spell at Sirius. Who was it?

Answer: Crookshanks

Crookshanks bore his allegiance towards both Hermione and Sirius, and could be friendly towards other characters such as Harry and Ginny. In "The Prisoner of Azkaban", Crookshanks helped Sirius get through the hole under the Whomping Willow, did all he could to stop Harry from hurting Sirius and helped Sirius deliver a letter to the owl post office where Pigwidgeon was purchased to sent the letter to Harry and his friends who were on the Hogwarts Express.
6. How did Harry and Ron keep Fang quiet so that he did not wake up the castle with his barks before taking the dog into the Forbidden Forest with them in "The Chamber of Secrets"?

Answer: They fed him treacle fudge that glued his teeth together

Hagrid was taken away to Azkaban as a suspect in the attacks at the school. Just as he was being led away, he told Harry and his friends to follow the spiders if "anyone wanted to find out some stuff". Harry and Ron thought it wise to bring Fang along even though it was clearly mentioned by Hagrid in "The Philosopher's Stone" that Fang was a coward.
7. What instrument did Harry use to put Fluffy, Hagrid's three-headed dog, to sleep in "The Philosopher's Stone"?

Answer: Flute

The flute, the very first Christmas present Harry received from Hagrid, would give out a sound very like an owl's hoot when blown. Quirrel left a harp at one of Fluffy's feet before entering the trapdoor, though the three friends initially thought it was Professor Snape who left the harp there and entered the trapdoor preceding them.
8. In which school year did Ginny get her pet pygmy puff Arnold?

Answer: Her 5th year

Arnold is a purple pygmy puff, one of several purple and pink ones the Weasley twins were selling in Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley. Ginny got Arnold as a pet in her 5th year, which is also Harry's 6th year, in "The Half Blood Prince". Pygmy puffs are miniature puffskins.
9. What errand was Errol (Weasleys' family owl) carrying out on his first appearance in the series?

Answer: Sending Mrs Weasley's howler to Ron for using the Ford Anglia to get to Hogwarts

Errol was first introduced in "The Chamber of Secrets" when he was delivering a howler from Mrs Weasley to reprimand Ron for driving Harry and himself to school using Mr Weasley's enchanted Ford Anglia. The dear family bird collapsed into Hermione's jug of milk. Errol was a great grey bird who, due to his old age and bad eyesight, often hit objects during his journeys and collapsed from the strain of running errands.

In fact, he had to be supported by Hedwig and a school owl in "The Prisoner of Azkaban" on the way to deliver Ron's present and letter to Harry.
10. What species of owl was Percy's owl, Hermes? (This is mentioned in "The Order of the Phoenix".)

Answer: Screech owl

Hermes was a reward for Percy when he became a Prefect. Percy used him to deliver a letter to Ron in "The Order of the Phoenix", to warn Ron to stay away from Harry, stating that being acquainted with Harry might cause Ron to lose his prefect's badge as well as endanger his future career.
