quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone', what colour was Hagrid's umbrella that contained his broken wand pieces?

Answer: Pink

In Rubeus Hagrid's third year at Hogwarts, he was framed by Tom Riddle for opening the chamber of secrets and attacking several students. Really, it was Tom Riddle himself, who later became Lord Voldemort. Hagrid was expelled for supposedly committing these crimes and had his wand snapped in half by a Ministry of Magic official, as all wizards do when banned from the wizarding world.

He kept the pieces of his wand in a pink umbrella. He continued to use his wand secretly from his umbrella.
2. In 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', what was Ginny slumped against/on in the chamber of secrets?

Answer: Floor

She was described as being slumped on the cold, stone floor, unconscious and dying. The memory of Tom Riddle had almost murdered her through the diary and in the chamber of secrets.
3. In 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', what was Remus Lupin's boggart?

Answer: Full moon

His boggart is the full moon, due to his werewolf behaviour. He hates his transformations in the Shrieking Shack, on the nights of the full moon, so understandably he desperately fears the full moon.
4. In 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', what did Fred and George end up with after attempting to cross the age line for the Goblet of Fire?

Answer: White tufty beards

They are described as running off to Madam Pomfrey, clutching their chins which bore fluffy, white beards. They gained these because they attempted to cross the age line that Albus Dumbledore had drawn around the Goblet of Fire to stop underage wizards entering themselves in the Triwizard Tournament.
5. In 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' at what address was the Order of the Phoenix headquarters?

Answer: 12 Grimmauld Place

12 Grimmauld Place is the ancestral home of the Blacks. Often referred to as 'The Noble and most Ancient house of Black' its last residents were Sirius Black and Kreacher, the Blacks' miserable, grumpy house elf. It is located in a muggle neighbourhood and is protected by a fidelius charm, making it unplottable.

Therefore it is perfect for headquarters because muggles and unwanted people cannot access it.
6. In 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' whose old potions book was Harry given?

Answer: Severus Snape

When Snape was teaching potions, non-OWL students were not allowed in his sixth year class. However, when Slughorn started teaching it, they were. Unfortunately by the time Harry and Ron found out this from McGonnagol, they had already signed up for their classes. Luckily Slughorn did not mind that the boys did not have books or equipment, and gave them spare ones.
Harry does not find out that the book is Snape's until the very end of the year when Dumbledore is killed.
7. In 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' what patronus does Snape have?

Answer: Doe

A few weeks after Ron has left the camp in the forest, Harry is on watch outside the tent and sees a doe patronus. He goes to investigate what it's about and it leads him to a small pool, with Gryffindor's sword at the bottom. Harry dives to the bottom, with the horcrux locket still round his neck- big mistake.

The horcrux tries to strangle him so Harry is un-breathing for about half a minute. Then suddenly, Ron the hero, appears out of no-where, and says he detected their location through the put-outer but we won't go into that now. Anyway, it's not till later in the book that Harry finds out the owner of the patronus was Snape, and that it was because Snape had a life-long crush on Lily Evans, who also had a doe patronus.
8. In 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard' which brother receives the invisibility cloak?

Answer: Youngest

The tale of the three brothers says that three boys, brothers, were walking along a windy road at twilight. They came across a lake, which they couldn't swim through, or wade through. However, they were learned in the magical arts, and simply waved their wands and a bridge appeared. Halfway across the bridge, Death stopped them.

He was angry at being cheated of three new victims, for people usually drowned in the river. But he hid his anger and pretended to congratulate them on their magic and said they had earned a gift for being clever enough to evade him.

The oldest brother, being power-hungry and big-headed, asked for a wand more powerful than any before it. So, Death fashioned a wand out of the elder tree, and named it the elder wand. The second brother, wanting to humiliate Death further, asked for the ability to recall others from death. So, Death picked up a stone from the river bank, and gave it to the second brother, telling him it had the power to bring back the dead. Finally, Death turned to the third brother, who humbly asked for something that would give him the power to go forth without being followed by Death. Death reluctantly handed over his cloak of invisibility.
9. Here's a tricky question. In 'Quidditch through the Ages' Dumbledore writes in the foreword, that the only way he took the book from the library, was to what?

Answer: Pry Pince's fingers from the spine of the book

In all the Harry Potter books, Pince is extremely protective over the books. In one book, Ginny is eating an Easter egg in the library and is immediately swooped on and is told-very severely- to get out.
10. In 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' Ron and Harry have a short written conversation on the page about Puffskeins. Ron says "I had one of those once," and Harry says, "What happened to it?" What does Ron reply?

Answer: Fred used it for bludger practice

The Puffskein entry has a note, presumably by Ron, saying, "I had one of those once" to which Harry responds, "What happened to it?" and a reply underneath says, "Fred used it for Bludger practice". This conversation also takes place between Harry and Ron in the Philosopher's Stone video game. Other amusing entries are:
The Pixies section has them classified as an XXX level creature. The addition here takes the form of a note saying "or XXXXXXX if you're Lockhart".
In the troll entry, a picture of a troll is drawn, next to it written, "My name is Gregory Goyle and I smell!"
The Hippogriff section says that they "may be domesticated, though this should only be attempted by experts". This is underlined and connected to a note saying, "Has Hagrid read this book?" referring to Hagrid's domestication of a Hippogriff herd despite being anything but an expert.
