Those who have done my other quizzes should not be surprised at the difficult questions in this one. This is about books 1 through 4 and beware, for I have read them all over ten times. You may need them beside you for the answers. Good luck.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many Knuts to a Galleon?

Answer: 493

Seventeen Sickles to a Galleon, twenty-nine Knuts to a Sickle. 17 times 29 is 493.
2. Which of these describes Harry's wand?

Answer: Eleven inches, holly and phoenix feather

You-know-who's wand is thirteen and a half inches with a feather from the same phoenix as Harry's. Lily Potter had a ten and a quarter inch wand made of willow. James had one of mahogany, eleven inches long.
3. What colour was the jumper Mrs. Weasley makes for Harry in his first year?

Answer: Emerald

The jumper Harry got in his first year was a plain emerald one. In his fourth year, he got another green jumper - this time with a dragon on it. Please note that one of the differences between the British/Canadian version and the American version is the use of the word "jumper," which is used interchangably with "sweater."
4. The Werewolf Code of Conduct which Hermione needlessly studied for their History of Magic exam in the first book was made when?

Answer: 1637

OK, that question was really evil. If you got that right, then you are officially ready for Professor Binn's class!
5. In Prof. McGongall's enchantment guarding the Philosopher's Stone, what chess piece did Hermione take the place of?

Answer: Rook (Castle)

Harry was a bishop and checkmated the White side, after Ron (a knight) sacrificed himself to the opposing queen. True fact about the Philosopher's Stone (a more historically accurate name than the American version's Sorcerer's Stone - it is used by the British/Canadian version): Nicholas Flamel was a real alchemist who was rumoured to have found it.

He didn't live forever - he didn't actually find the Stone - but he did live to the age of eighty-eight (over twice the average life expectancy) and was one of the richest men in Europe.
6. What is Neville Longbottom's toad's name?

Answer: Trevor

He keeps losing things, including Trevor. In fact, he lost the toad twice just in the first book!
7. Who is the heir to Slytherin?

Answer: Tom Riddle (aka You-Know-Who)

It was Tom who opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years before the second book and again in Harry's second year by possessing the body of Ginny Weasly through his magical diary.
8. Draco Malfoy's cronies, Crabbe and Goyle, have what first names?

Answer: Vincent and Gregory

Their fathers are Draco's father's cronies as well. Some things never change.
9. When was the vault at Gringotts broken into in the first book?

Answer: 31 July

Hagrid, however, emptied it the same day. Vault seven hundred and thirteen had contained the fabled Philosopher's Stone, which turns lead into gold and makes the Elixir of Youth, which makes the drinker impervious to age.
10. Crookshanks, Hermione's cat, has what magical power?

Answer: Can recognise Animagi

This is revealed in the third book when it helps Sirius Black (the dog) and keeps attacking Scabbers (aka Peter Pettigrew - Wormtail).
11. What is a remedy for the clamminess, depression, and loss of consciousness after being in the presence of a Dementor?

Answer: Chocolate

Professor Remus J. Lupin knows this and gave some to everyone immediately after the Dementors searched the Hogwarts Express.
12. What two subjects did Hermione drop in order to have a normal timetable (i.e. one that doesn't involve time travel)?

Answer: Divination and Muggle Studies

Those who have read the third book ten times should know that she dropped out of Divination around Easter - apparently a "prophecy" of Professor Trelawny's.
13. Against You-Know-Who in the fourth book, what spell did Harry use against Avada Kedavra to put them into Priori Incantatem?

Answer: Disarming Spell

It seems that all You-know-who did was to kill. The Avada Kedavra Curse was the only thing reversed other than Wormtail's hand in Priori Incantatem.
14. What would you say to perform the Four-point Spell?

Answer: Point me

The four-point spell makes the wand point due north, helpful to Harry when he had to navigate through the third Triwizard task.
15. Harry goes to the Yule Ball with whom?

Answer: Parvati Patil

He wanted to go with Cho Chang, but she went with Cedric Diggory. Hermione was also a partner for a Champion, as she went with Viktor Krum.
