Paul Bunyan was a giant of American folklore who was also a lumberjack. He was even a famously large infant, and grew up accordingly. The legend says that he and his ox created the Grand Canyon and Mount Hood.

John Henry is the legend of a strong former slave who becomes a steel driver and races a new mechanical hammer through a mountain to win but only to tragically die after his race is won. Its historical accuracy is debated.
