Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am a beautiful winged horse from Ancient Greece.

Answer: Pegasus

I am a mythological creature from Ancient Greece. My father was the legendary Poseidon, God of the Sea, and my mother was Medusa, an evil gorgon who had snakes for her hair. I was born as a flying horse which I didn't mind so much apart from when people kept trying to kidnap me. I eventually made my home on Mount Olympus with the greatest God of them all, the mighty Zeus.
2. I am a wailing female spirit from Irish legend.

Answer: Banshee

Ireland is a beautiful country full of legend and mythological creatures, such as the leprechaun who sits waiting for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I am also a famous legend; something called a banshee. I am a faerie-woman who can take on different forms, including a beautiful young maiden with blonde hair, or an ugly old witch with my eyes reddened from crying so much.

But beware, for every time I start wailing it will bring about the death of a loved one.
3. I am an ape-like creature from North-West America.

Answer: Sasquatch

I am a shy creature who likes to live in wooded areas and mountains far away from people. If I was to describe myself, I would say I was tall, dark and handsome, so I really don't know why people are very shocked when they see me. They say I look like an ugly giant ape-like beast with thick fur, up to three metres tall, and with very, very, very big feet. How unkind! I have relatives around the world, including the Yeti who lives in the Himalayan mountain range in Asia.
4. I swim in the deep waters of a Scottish lake.

Answer: Loch Ness Monster

Scotland has many lakes, or lochs as they like to call them, but I have made my home in one of the largest of them all. I was first photographed in Loch Ness in 1933, and since then I have appeared in many newspapers around the world. People call me Nessie, which is rather a cute name! These same people have tried to find me with sonar devices, underwater cameras and submarines, but they will never find me because I am too cunning.
5. I am a sea monster from Norwegian myth.

Answer: Kraken

I live in the icy cold waters off the coast of Norway. I am a gargantuan (very, very, very, very large) sea creature which resembles a giant squid, with a huge head and many tentacles. I use these tentacles to take a grip on seafaring vessels, and all who sail on her, by dragging them down to the depths of the sea to their watery grave.
6. I am a legendary bird of prey from Arabian folklore.

Answer: Roc

The person who knew me the most was Sinbad the Sailor, a fictional hero from Arabian folklore. He even tied himself to my huge leg with his turban when he escaped an island during his second voyage. I am an enormous bird with a wingspan reaching nearly 15 metres in length. My talons are so large that I can even grasp a huge elephant and fly off with it across the night sky.
7. I am a blood-sucking corpse originally from Europe.

Answer: Vampire

My name is Count Dracula and I am the most famous vampire in the world. I live inside a castle in Transylvania and only came out when it is dark to terrorise the local people. I use my sharp fangs to drink their blood. I am always wary of vampire hunters who use garlic to frighten me away.

They try and kill me by driving a sharp wooden stake through my heart, but I always escape by turning myself into a bat and flying away.
8. I am a swamp-creature from Australian folklore.

Answer: Bunyip

G'day mate! Aboriginal tribes have been very scared of me for hundreds of years and they even told Dreamtime stories about me. I'm afraid all the stories are true! Yes, I resemble a dog and a walrus, with dark fur, sharp teeth and facial horns. Yes, I live in swamps and billabongs, riverbeds and creeks. Yes, I lie in wait to capture and devour my next animal or person, dragging my victim into the water, never to be seen again. Yes, I prefer women and children!
9. I am a fire-breathing reptile from China.

Answer: Dragon

I am a fire-breathing creature and appear in folklore and fairytales of many cultures around the world. It was in China that I became the most famous. It was here that I became a symbol of power and strength, a creature to revere and worship. I appear in the Chinese zodiac along with other creatures including the snake, rooster, dog, tiger and rabbit. I also appear during New Year festivities with my colourful dragon dance weaving through the streets as midnight approaches.
10. I drink the blood of goats in Latin American legend.

Answer: Chupacabra

I live in countries of Latin America such as Mexico and Puerto Rico where they speak Spanish. The Spanish name Chupacabra in English means "goat sucker". I am a vampire beast which means I survive by drinking the blood from others, mainly livestock and especially goats. I look like a large rodent and have many sharp teeth and a row of spines along my back.

There is an overpowering smell of sulfur whenever people get too close to me so I recommend that you keep far, far away.
