Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Job was a righteous man. He lived like God wanted, and avoided evil. He was known as a great man in the East. Where did Job live?

Answer: Uz

Uz was a land in the east, close to Israel and Jordan. The Bible calls Job the "greatest man in the east" because of how he lived for God and how many things God blessed him with. Job was a very rich man. He did what was right according to God and didn't do evil. (Job 1:1)
2. Because Job pleased God, God blessed him with many things. Which was NOT one of the things God gave Job?

Answer: a Dodge truck

Job had seven sons and three daughters, and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East. (Job 1:2)
3. Job served God but he also prayed for his family as well. What did he do for his sons and daughters on their birthdays?

Answer: He offered God a sacrifice in case they had sinned.

His sons hosted feasts in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. When the celebration was over, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom. (Job 1: 4-5)
4. One day Satan came to visit God in heaven. God asked him, "Have you seen my servant Job? He does everything right." Satan said, "Of course!" Why did Satan tell God that Job did not live a sinful life?

Answer: God had given Job lots of blessings.

God said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and avoids evil."

"Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied. 10 "Have you not protected him, his family, and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. Take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face." (Job 1: 8-11)
5. God considered Satan's words. He told Satan to go ahead and test Job, but what was the one thing he told Satan he was not allowed to do?

Answer: kill Job

The Lord said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on Job himself do not lay a finger." Satan got to work and started planning terrible things for Job. He wanted to prove God wrong about Job being a righteous man. (Job 1: 12)
6. Satan first decided to attack Job's family. What was the first thing that happened to his family?

Answer: Their oxen and donkeys were stolen.

One day a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" (Job 1:14-15)
7. Just a short time after the messenger came to Job, more messengers arrived to report on Satan's actions. Which of these was NOT one of them?

Answer: A tornado blew his wife to Kansas.

While Job was still recovering from the first news, several more messengers came to him with other bad news. His sheep had been destroyed by fire that came out of heaven, which killed the servants working in the same fields. His camels were stolen by raiders. Finally, his children had been having a party when a house collapsed on them. Each messenger was reportedly the only survivor in each case. Job lost all his wealth, his servants, and his children in one day.

However instead of cursing God, Job praised God. He told everyone that God had given him nothing when he was born, and God had the right to take it all away.(Job 1:16-20)
8. Job still praised God even though lots of bad things had happened. When God told Satan that his first tests had failed, Satan told Him Job still had one more thing. What did Satan ask God to allow him to do?

Answer: take away Job's health

Satan was visiting God again, when God asked him if he had seen Job. Job was still praising God even though many bad things had happened.

God said, "Job is still serving me, even though you hurt him without cause." Satan said, "Of course he is. He still has his health, and a man will do anything for his life. Take away his health and he will curse you!"
God said, "Ok, but do not kill him."

Satan went to work and Job got very sick with painful sores. It was so bad Job's wife told him to curse God and die. However Job still praised God. (Job 2:1-10)
9. Job's friends heard about all of his misfortunes and went to see him. However they were so shocked when they saw all that had been destroyed, they were speechless. Why did they tell Job that all the bad things had happened to him?

Answer: He had sinned and made God angry.

Job's friends were so speechless, that they sat down and stared at Job for a week without saying a word. Finally when they did say something, they started telling Job to repent because he must have caused all the bad things to happen by doing something wrong. Job told them he was innocent. He had done nothing wrong for God to punish him. (Job 2: 11-13, Job 5)
10. God knew that Job was innocent. He spoke to Job and encouraged him. When it was over, God gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Answer: True

God knew that Job had been innocent from the beginning and that all the bad things were a test of Job's faith. He told Job that He had been in control of the world ever since He created it. When Job praised God, God made Job's friends apologize to him for treating him wrong.

Then God blessed Job with twice as many animals and wealth than he had before. He also gave him seven sons and three daughters who were the most beautiful in the land. Job lived 140 more years afterwards. (Job 42)
