Answer: Mrs. Phelps

At first Mrs. Phelps did not believe that Matilda would be able to read at her age, but then she was convinced after seeing Matilda with a book every afternoon in the library.
2. What was the first 'famous grown-up book' that Matilda read?

Answer: 'Great Expectations' by Charles Dickens

Mrs. Phelps chose it for four year old Matilda and Matilda loved it. Charles Dickens became one of her favourite authors because he wrote so beautifully and made her laugh.
3. What was the game that Mrs. Wormwood loved playing every afternoon?

Answer: Bingo

Five days a week Mrs. Wormwood left Matilda alone at home to play bingo. In the meantime Matilda learned to read and was enjoying classic books.
4. What does Mr. Wormwood hold as his secret to success?

Answer: Sawdust

He mixed sawdust with oil in the gearbox, so that the car does not rattle when the buyer purchases it. However, the ruse is found very soon because it stops working after 100 miles or so. Mr. Wormwood also changes the mileage so he could sell the cars better.

Answer: Hortensia

Hortensia tells Matilda and Lavender about The Chokey, where she was six times. She tells the stories about her pouring Golden Syrup on Miss Trunchbull's chair and putting itching-powder in Trunchbull's knickers.
6. What sport was Miss Trunchbull in before?

Answer: Throwing the hammer

She used to throw the hammer, which Hortensia explains is a cannon ball on the end of a wire that weights about as much as a small boy. Miss Trunchbull seems to have a habit of lifting and throwing children around.

Answer: a newt

Miss Trunchbull decided it was a baby crocodile and got very frightened. She blamed it on Matilda, even though Matilda denied putting it there it there.

Answer: 1 pound a week

She only had one pound a week because Miss Trunchbull took the rest claiming that Miss Honey owed her for food and clothes that Trunchbull gave her as she was a child. Matilda decides that Miss Honey is really poor when she sees her eating margarine and living in a house with no furniture whatsoever.
9. What was Miss Honey's father's first name?

Answer: Magnus

Matilda found out his name and using her gift and his name to write a message to Miss Trunchbull that scared her to death.
10. At the very end of the book whom was Matilda left to live with?

Answer: Miss Honey

Her parents decided to go to Spain because her father's schemes were discovered, but she asked to be left with Miss Honey and the parents who did not care much about Matilda allowed her.
