If you didn't know this question, you probably won't do too well on the rest of the quiz. Matilda Wormwood is the brave little heroine of the book who uses her intelligence to get back at adults who mistreat her.

2. Matilda taught herself to read at what age?

Answer: 3

Matilda taught herself to read by studying newspapers and magazines around the house. At the age of four she could read fast and well. By this time she had a library card and checked out many classics like "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens.

3. What was the book Mrs. Phelps gave Matilda when she asked for a famous grown-up book?

Answer: "Great Expectations"

"Great Expectations" is written by Charles Dickens and is a wonderful book. It was also made into a pretty good movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow.

4. What was the first trick Matilda played on her father when she was mad at him?

Answer: glued his hat

"Mr. Wormwood didn't notice anything when he put the hat on, but when he arrived at the garage he couldn't get it off." Quite a clever girl that Matilda is. (In the movie, she also had previously bleached his hair.)

Answer: car salesman

He sells used cars by making them look better than they really are. The cars eventually break down on the people who bought them. Mrs. Trunchbull is one of his victims and the incident just gives her another reason to hate Matilda.

She is really mean and hates little kids, she even threw one girl by her pigtails.

Answer: Hortensia

She warned them that "She(Trunchbull) hates very small children"(and she certainly does!).

Answer: Miss Honey

Miss Honey was the Trunchbull's niece but she was nothing like her. She was very nice and helped Matilda to develop her intelligence.

Answer: a newt

Trunchbull blamed Matilda right away even though it wasn't Matilda who did it. Later Matilda gets her revenge with the writing on the chalkboard though so don't feel too sorry for her!

10. What was Miss Honey's father's name?

Answer: Magnus

When Matilda wrote on the chalkboard to scare Trunchbull for Miss Honey she said it was Magnus writing. The Trunchbull believed that Miss Honey's father, whose death she was responsible for, had come back to haunt her but it was really just the clever Matilda.
