Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When this element was discovered and controlled, it changed human history for ever. It still help us today in many ways, especially on cold days, but we also have to be careful around it or we could get burned! What fiery orange thing are we talking about?

Answer: Fire

Primitive men thought at first that fire was a creation of the gods, until they learned that they could also create it! While it can be helpful in some aspects of life (i.e. cooking, providing heat and light), it can also be very harmful and destructive if handled incorrectly.
2. Since I would like to have some fruit in this quiz, which of these would be my first choice? Remember, we're looking for orange colored objects!

Answer: Mandarin

The mandarin is a special kind of orange, which is sweeter, easier to peel and to break into small segments without spilling juice all over your hands! It can be eaten piece by piece, or squeezed into juice. Its peel also has many uses, since it can be dried and added as flavoring for candy, drinks and baked goods, or as a spice in some dishes.
Mandarins are mainly grown in the Mediterranean area, with Spain, Turkey, Morocco and Egypt being the main producers.
3. Landscapes and nature, with all its beautiful colors, such a pleasure for the eyes! Of course, I have a personal preference for the orange colored ones, so which of the following would I prefer to watch?

Answer: A sunset

If snow was orange, I guess skiing would be one of my favorite activities! I also like trees and a good swim on hot days, but nothing beats the beautiful orange hues of a sunset sky.
4. I'm a big fan of this European country's national sports teams, because they always wear orange jerseys. What country is this, also known for tulips and windmills?

Answer: Netherlands

The Netherlands' flag doesn't have any orange on it, but they use the color a lot in sports and generally as a symbol of national pride. This is because it refers to the Dutch Royal Family, the House of Orange-Nassau.
5. Time for lunch! Mom always tells us to "eat our veggies" and I definitely will, since I'm seeing her dicing a bunch of these long, thin, orange root vegetables, which are also a favorite of rabbits! Can you guess what is my favorite vegetable?

Answer: Carrot

Did you know that the most commonly eaten part of the carrot is actually the root? Even though the leaves and stem are also used sometimes, it is the tuber that you'll find more often. It is one of the most consumed vegetables in the world, and can be prepared in many different ways, either on its own or as part of another preparation (for example in a carrot cake, yummy!)
Oh, and for the record, carrots can have other colors too! I've never eaten a purple carrot, but they exist!
6. Quick! Let's turn on the TV, "Pokemon" is about to start! I really like these lovely creatures. I would definitely want one of them as a pet! Which of the starter Pokemons would be most suitable for a fan of orange stuff?

Answer: Charmander

When "Pokemon" started, there were only 150 of them (still a big number anyway!), but, as the next generations came up, there are almost 1000 now!
The first generation starters included the cute orange dinosaur Charmander, who is a fire-type Pokemon. The yellow electric mouse, Pikachu, is far more popular, but if you ask me, I'd prefer its evolved version, Raichu -- it is orange too!
7. We still have time for one more cartoon. We'll watch an episode of this show about an orange cat who likes to sleep a lot, and also loves lasagna! Who is he?

Answer: Garfield

I like dogs better than cats, but there are not that many orange dogs on cartoons!
"Garfield" started originally as a comic strip, and it was such a success that it also spawned a TV show, films and video games.
As of 2013, it held the Guinness Record for the world's most widely syndicated comic strip.
8. The cartoons ended, and now the game is on! I hope we see a lot of three-pointers, slam dunks and blocks in this exciting sport featuring an orange ball. What am I watching?

Answer: Basketball

Basketball was invented in 1891 in the USA, by James Naismith. It is played by two teams of five members each, and you score points by shooting the ball through the opposing team's hoop. It is one of the most popular sports worldwide.
9. For my next vacation, I'd like to go to the West Coast of the US. There's this huge, orange structure (I don't know why they call it "Golden") that I really want to visit. What city should I go to if I want to see it?

Answer: San Francisco

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most famous suspension bridges in the world. It was opened in 1937. It spans the Golden Gate strait (that's why it's called like that!) and connects the city of San Francisco, California, with Marin County.
The orange color was chosen because it complements the natural surroundings, and also to help make the bridge visible when there's fog.
10. So, we've reached the end of this quiz. This calls for a celebration! Which of the following festivities would you think is my favorite? (It's not because of the candy, I swear!)

Answer: Halloween

Spooky choice! The reason is because orange is one of the colors (together with black) that is more closely associated with Halloween, as in the pumpkins. So, nothing beats a celebration with lots of orange colored stuff!
Christmas uses mostly red and green, Valentine's Day is all about pink and red, and Easter uses colors such as light purple and gold.
